Purples - Really?!?!

To me, it's like trophies. I get a toon that i really like, PL him/her to 50 and IO/ Purp them out. Then when friends are on i play or exm down and run with them. I hardly run under 30's in the game. I like powers and being able to use them. I use purps when i need. If i need more rech for a build i get it. Like i said, to me there like trophies. And i have quite a few of them.

In my opinion, there is no major difference between a fully purpled toon and a fully IO'd toon with non-purple sets (other than the advantage of retaining bonuses when exemping).

1) I want to have a team toon build and wont have to depend on def because I will either get it from my team mates, have team mates to heal me or I just plain will never solo.

2) I want to do something really well i.e. regen or recovery or damage but dont really care if that AV face plants me in 2.2 seconds because of... see above.

3) I really have lots and lots of money to spend and I will be slotting full PvP sets as well that I will have spent billions on just one full set.

In all seriousness, are there any types of toons who, using purples extensively, are survivable and good for soloing AVs and being the last hero standing when the **** hits the fan and the team is getting wiped?

If you could share some of your builds and describe what the builds are designed for that might help.

So... Really worth all that?
Why? Because I can.

Actually it exists, I didn't say the devs incorporated it into the gameplay, but rather that people can usually be found boasting. Then theres the common "I worked hard for this IO", I'm fine with how hard people try to get the new "shiny", but many have a hard time keeping it to themselves. The fact that you think me insecure already makes the claim that you collect IO's on the regular, so you're biased...not much credibility there...

While Silverado might not be completely correct, I can think of some cases now where purple sets in a build improve the build and lead to flexibility in the build, for the most part he is correct. Because purple sets don't have def bonuses in them, except for one I can think of, they can actually serve to weaken toons who have well thought out and very tight builds.

None of my toons is fully purpled out, yet they are capable of what they're capable of

There's nothing you can do with purples that you can't do with non-purple IO sets.

Purples are unsurpassed for recharge bonuses. If your build needs maximum recharge, purples are the way to go.

You ask if any AT's really benefit from purples. Ill/rads and warshades get the most benefit, IMO. I purpled my WS before prices went absolutely insane. She has perma-hasten, perma-eclipse, perma-three-pets (with 4 for about 15 seconds), perma-human mire, dwarf mire up every 5 seconds, quasar up every 90 seconds and unchain essence up every 60. She delivers massive purple death while sitting at 85% resistance all the time. She's a lot of fun.

Debt barely slows down levelling these days. It's just a little bar that measures how much Awesome you've generated recently. (If you're not getting debt, you're just not trying to generate Awesome hard enough.) -Kelenar

You can still build for recharge without any Purples. (which is what Silver was talking about)

Being unable to build for recharge without Purples =\= Purpled Builds have more recharge.

Edit: people can still build high recharge builds, perma dom etc, without a single purple set.

Mr. Enigma - TY for that build I will really be checking that out soon.

The way things are now, I'm glad that I purpled out my Ill/Rad when purples were worth about 1/8th the price they are now.

See I decided a long time ago I would focus on two characters, one blue and one red, and get the best stuff for them that I could. Purples simply became another goal after 50. Now when i achieved it Blue side it was when they first came out. So they weren't as expensive as they are now.

I love my Peacebringer. I didn't Purple out to have a maxed out toon, otherwise I would have chosen a different AT who would better benifit from the supererior bonuses. At the same time, I wanted to have the most powerful PB i could have. Sort of like in comics you had powered people and then cosmic people. Johny Storm and Firelord have the same powers, just Firelord is on a greater level. So I got my six sets of Purples part for concept, part for maxing out, part for bragging rights and just cause I could.

The negative is though that while i have no End issues, that while my Damage is great, everything Recharges so fast I have a surplus of choices on what to do (and that's after I got rid of a Permahasten because it didn't rankle with my idea of concept) and all the other goodie, that my PB really isn't that greater then SO'd out characters. There's a few SO'd Alts of mine who quite outdo my PB (my MM, easily). But some lofty ideal of the perfect toon who does it all isn't what I'm shooting for, just my ideal of fun. Then again, isn't that what all of us are dong anyway.

I haven't completed my Red side version yet, my Purpled Crab. Took a while to decide who it should be. Besides, the fun is trying it and see if it can be done.

C'Mon, I've seen your ads for Tfs blueside saying you're only looking for a tanker, scrapper, controller, defender, blaster or khled

And every one of your TFs that I've been on has rocked.

I have one really IO'd toon, my Dom, and I notice every bit of +recharge on it. Its great fun, but its purpled out because I enjoy playing it so much.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Purple bonuses Mal down with you. With the exception of PvP IOs; regular IOs do not mal down with you. So the truth of my statement still stands...

d;D

To the OP. It really isn't worth purpling out your toons for PvP. Your bonuses will be crippled by DR (Diminishing returns: Devs cave-in to loud stupid minority). (thank the wisdom of the Devs for that).

The bonuses you really want to be looking at (for pvp) are KB protection, HP, Recharge and damage. And you don't want to gimp yourself on either.

I'm guessing you'll be moving to freedom to join the fiteclub league over there. Good luck and get a thick skin.
