server merg
whats sad is that noone has given any idea or sugesstions to help improve the servers deadness, just shot down an idea open to discussion.... any have any decent suggestions regarding increasing server popularity... lets face it the damn place is dead these days and when there are people on its ae babies lost and confused with no idea what to do or how to do it!

I'm burnt out and have the flu, so sorry if this doesnt make much sense and has spelling errors, i'm too lazy to make much of an effort right now. That being said feel free to skip this as it doesnt have too much to do with the OP but has more to do with whats been on my mind for a long time now.
Basically, the problem with guardian's activity as i see it is not in our servers population but rather in the attitude of a handful of people. I'm talkin more pvp here more than anything but it stems into pve a bit as well. Basically I think if we want more people here, we should focus more on keeping people around rather than gaining more people through drastic pie-in-the-sky measures. The population will increase with new players if we dont shun so many away. I only say this because i've seen this as the main reason for most of my friends and the rest of server, as far as i can tell, moving to freedom or leaving the game, something i've been more and more tempted to do lately.
Just because you play a villain does not mean you should act like one. I'm all for RPing if thats your thing but be realistic, it's still a game. I'm a realist and i know some people are just ******** and always will be, but i feel like if people could just use their heads more before getting into petty arguments it'd do a whole lot more for our server than some merge would... I guess i should leave it there before i get any more crazy with this. sorry for typing so much, like i said it's been on my mind a long time....seeya soon hopefully guardian -dill

I just like to troll though
at least you're funny as hell haunt, and personally i have no problems with ******** infact im friends with plenty (no offence haha) but i do have a problem with people who get a kick out of driving people from the zone....when they deserve it (and theres plenty that do) fine but it happens all the time and even worse it's often the same group who quits or complains about the game/population down the road.... i'm not just talking about current situations but guardian's fine history of flame wars in pvp. anyways nuff venting --dill

Hey Dill. I hope you get well soon man.
@KoolVirus
hyperstrike, honestly why bother posting nothing? just move on if you dont have anything to actually say here! and as i ked before any sugestions on how to get more people on guardian and interested in something other than ae?
i know Kool is willing to explore options from his approach to the idea. anyone else want to step outside there tiny little bubble to improve game play for everyone?
Suggestions?
How about... Making a Parade on another server, probably one where you are Free to be Dumb, and ask people to join Guardian?
Seriously...
Why? I actually see no problem with the server population. And yes, i dont PVP, so lack of pvpers dont matter to me.
If you want PVP, go for a high-count server.
If you want cookies, come to Guardian.
If you want both PVP and Cookies, run a PVP event or try to hook more people on it.
But be aware that there will be at least 3 other pvpers that will try to scare away every new person you try to entice, so your work will be against the flux of the pvp population...
Why? Its on the nature of PVP to attract the most competitive, not the most cooperative. And with few prey around, the pvp predators will be hungry.

This is just a fancy way of telling me to "shut up".
In a forum devoted to "discussion", this is...well...boneheaded is about the nicest thing I could say.
and as i ked before any sugestions on how to get more people on guardian and interested in something other than ae? |
Advert the crap outta them.
Leave an impression with people that your server, while possibly not populous, is a BUSY server.
And most of all, be FRIENDLY with people who come in.
Or you could try busting out the whips and chains and trying to forcibly drive people to the server.
Yeah! That'll work!
i know Kool is willing to explore options from his approach to the idea. anyone else want to step outside there tiny little bubble to improve game play for everyone? |
Griping about "how dead it is" isn't "stepping outside the bubble".
Trying to harrangue the devs or other players into doing something FOR YOU isnt' "stepping outside the bubble".
Coming up with a plan of action for what YOU can do to draw people into the community YOURSELF is stepping outside the bubble.
And it doesn't always have to be huge and splashy either (though huge and splashy will at least get them "in the door").
You guys already have community leaders. You know who they are. Approach them and offer to assist them. Or augment their efforts with your own. You can make each other's "jobs" easier.
Now if I offended anyone with my harping on the "If you merge my servers I KEEL YOU!" angle, I apologize. I'm just, frankly, sick of that subject and not inclined in any way to be polite or forgiving when someone zombifies it again.

@KoolVirus
I like Guardian and it's "feel". And yeah, wtf about Pepsi? He's one of the best things about Guardian and I'll grab any chance to TF with him. I just don't stand to close when he is milking the Minotaurs...
If someone doesn't like the size of population or the lack of PvP or whatever....find a server that has what you want. Don't try to change the server to fit your own agenda.
I feel I've held my tongue for long enough now, so here's my two bits. If anyone is offended by it, so be it. I'm not aiming to offend.
On the subject of PvP on Guardian. Without naming names, there are some people that frequent RV that tend to drive anyone new away within minutes sometimes. I'm talking about the totally unnecessary insults that those people often fling around. Now, I'm all for trash talking. That's part of PvP in any game, whether its an MMO or a shooter. But the few people that go overboard for no reason other than to belittle others really tends to drive away anyone that's just starting out in PvP. Give them a spanking, by all means, but there's no need to chase them out of the zone for good by insulting their friends, family or lifestyle (and yes, I do see this often enough).
I'm relatively new to PvP in any form on Guardian, having only in recent months begun to frequent RV on a daily basis and building toons specificely for PvP. I've stuck it out because there are at least more good apples than bad in the PvP zones, and I'm willing to look past the obvious social shortcomings of those few bad apples. But some others that I've run into that are even newer to PvP than I am refuse to even show up in PvP zones or Arena events due to the poor attitudes of those few.
Dill, DP, Pet, hell even Brewha and Cronic (these all among others), while full of smack talk sometimes, at least make PvP fun and challenging and don't make it a point to drive new PvP'ers from the zone. Now, I'll admit I've let my temper get the best of me a few times. It happens to the best of us. But unlike those few I've been referring to from the start, I'm not actively abusing others for my own amusement. I will go out of my way at times to give suggestions and help when it comes to PvP, at least regarding the few AT's I PvP on and thus know anything about.
Basically the tl;dr version of this is that while smack talk always was, is and will be a part of PvP, there's no reason to go overboard. If a new PvP'er comes in and gets his butt handed to him repeatedly, offer him/her a hand in an effort to make them better at it. This will go a long way to making PvP on Guardian more appealing to new people. It doesn't have to be Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, but it also doesn't need to be a grating and degrading experience.
As for PvE on Guardian. If you feel that you're having trouble getting teams for things, then try seeking out new avenues to find those teams. Make use of the Guardian, Guardian TF and Level 50 channels. Join an active SG/VG or Coalition. Pick up some of those AE babies and teach them about the game that they've been missing out on while being cooped up in that stuffy AE building. You may be surprised at how some of them will respond to a kind but firm hand, much like children. All those dozens of AE babies that we see running around are part of the future of this game. Don't drive them away by deriding them for being AE babies. Treat them as the newbies they are and help them learn the ways of the game. While there will be a few that are too hung up on doing nothing but AE power-leveling, the lion's share of them are now out and about in the zones, trying to play the game itself.
I ran across someone the other day in one of the Global channels that was doing nothing but complaining about running on a banner team with a bunch of newbies/AE babies. They didn't know what they were doing, and rather then help them, they got yelled at (effectively, not literally) and then smack-talked in the global channel. They're newbies, so we need to bear with them and try to help them, not disparage them for not knowing anything.
As was mentioned in a previous post in the thread, basically we need to be willing to be friendly and welcoming to people who are new to the server, rather than shunning them and making them feel like they don't belong. If you want more people to play with on Guardian, we need to make more of an effort to change that. A server merg wouldn't help this any. All those newbies would just be moved to the new merged server and still shunned for being AE babies, or just plain new. So you're left with the same scenario as we have now, just perhaps a few more older players to team with.
Ok, so that was a little more than two bits. My apologies.
End rant.
Gaurdian Rocks!!! Dont change it for the world. If it is as small as you think it is, then im not sure how it made one of the top five servers in attendence at HeroCon......

Yes. I can get lost on a straight-line map.
The two biggest complaints I see about Guardian are:
A) Nobody will PvP. Pyber pretty much explained things perfectly. Personally, I don't care about PvP and who has the larger e-*****. I poked my head into RV, and saw those people he was talking about. I won't even go back for the badges now. They totally soured me. Which is a shame, because I actually had one person ask if I wanted to PvP, took me to a secluded area, and when they trounced me, they complimented me, and said I put up a good fight, even though I didn't think I did. It wasn't long after that that the jerks convinced me to avoid PvP zones for good. As they say, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch.
B) Nobody plays Villains. I have to agree with this. It seems everyone only wants to play on their Heroes. They'll log in, day after day, farming stuff on their 50s. They'll make new Heroes at the drop of a hat. But it seems nobody can be bothered to play a Villain. It's pretty empty, and it sucks. We've had a couple of Villain Week events, and everyone seemed to have fun, but as soon as it was over, it was right back to Heroes. I really wish people would spend as much time on Villains as they do on Heroes. Not that we don't have people that try that, like Morrie, and even occasionally Ariel', and a few others whom I can't remember at the moment.
I love Guardian, but I do wish the PvP Douches would either grow up, or move to another server, and that there was more activity on Villains.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
True the only people that play villains, don't play heroes hardly at all.
and trash tlak is awsomesauce.
@KoolVirus
hell as sav said i pretty much have to be tied up and dragged heroside nowadays, ive gotten bored with my heroes and have plenty of villains that i am currently working on and have been
ofcourse there arent as many people on villains as heroes but pretty much every time im on im teaming with at least 1 person
and btw feel free to come team with me redside i uh..hmm...have bacon!
wait! what have i done?! i offered up my bacon!?
*saves Morrie's Bacon*
The Plot Twins were doing great for a while when I started them for the first Villains Week over a year ago. Then they stagnated as the usual people flooded Paragon to play their Heroes again. I had a little bit of fun the next time we all went Red.
It wasn't until this passed DBLXP Week that I was finally able to get enough people together to run up the levels on them. They are currently at Lvl 38. They were at Lvl 36 when Halloween started and it's been a total a**whip to ToT them to 38 with most people bit**ing and whining about how they don't want to play redside. I also get the usual core of RedSnobs who are a counter to the BlueSnobs. In both cases I find it hilariously disturbing that I can be totally blown off for trying get a team going redside, but those same people above will slather at the mouth and trip over their login creds to load up a lowbie the moment I mention farming with my 50s. Amazing how the lowbies come flying outta the woodwork then isn't it.
One of the aforementioned Blue Snobs here. Sorry.
*Edit. I really hope that you don't think I'm one of the mouth slathering lowbies though.

Recently however my SG decided to start playing villains and I came along with them. Funny, I was actually enjoying myself and enjoying the toons once I got past level 15 or so. My highest is a Fire/WP brute who's now nearing 40 and I've a bunch of new lowbies in the teens and 20's who are coming into their own.
Some of them are on Infinity as that's where the SG went for redside... most of us had filled Guardian... I have rolled a few here as well. They're still in the teens and relatively broke; unfortunately all my inf is blueside so they're starting from scratch.
