Because it's a valid usage as a comparison. You want a server with more people? Virtue is one example of that.

Get in the global channels and build some connections. Most people are available, just that in the couple hundred online at any moment...most aren't able to see a plain broadcast/request/whatever.

With just 3 people, KBSquad's base was large before the reduction in prices. With just 5 people, UoV on Virtue has the largest "insecure" base available...and could afford the absolute largest if we wanted to. Granted, that's more a commentary on our lack of any other hobby, not that I'm able to actually partake of it as of late. Damn Verizon.

Ok, imagine your SG is on a server that is merged with another server with an SG with the same name. Who gets to keep it? Do you? Do they? Does it go to the person who registered first? Do they just merge the member list and you're all in one giant SG now?

Do you understand why server merges are a bad bad idea? If not, go read Bill's copypasta again. If you want to be on a high-pop server, go to one. Either roll a new character, or pony up the $10 and transfer. Ta-da!

Imagine losing your kicking base because the easiest way to handle the server merge is to wipe all supergroup data from both servers. (All SGs gone, all names cleared, all names available on first-come, first-serve. Totally unbiased.) Imagine losing half your characters, because they merged two small servers you happen to be active on and there aren't enough slots. Imagine that the other half all end up as "Matt Tatts2" because someone on the other server happened to have the same name.

As everyone has pointed out, this gets brought up often. Aside from all of the reasons this would have a massive negative effect on players, merging servers is a bad move for the company as well - many people would quit over the issues it would cause. And it would be seen by those outside the game as clear evidence that the game itself is in trouble. (Merging servers is generally only done as a cost-cutting measure, when the number of players isn't large enough to maintain profitability. Yes, AOC and WAR both have had server merges. AOC at least, is widely considered to be dying, and WAR is generally regarded as "in a bit of trouble." I have visited no less the three software stores recently, where I have actually overheard the cashiers advising people *against* buying either game, "because they're going to get shut down soon.")

Merging the servers would not help with PVP. Very few people PVP in this game to begin with, and the system available is less than ideal. The people who hate/don't care about PVP will still feel that way after a merge, except they'll also be upset that one or more of their characters or SGs were effectively wrecked by the merge. It would not help greatly with finding teams because, simply put, the problem you're having isn't that there aren't people to team with. It's that you are looking for them wrong. (Here's a hint - sitting around and waiting for "da awesum team!" to invite you isn't going to work.)

If the number of people on your server bothers you, find a bigger server. You can even move your characters, for a small fee. There is no reason that many other players on *both* servers should be badly inconvenienced simply because you cannot find a group. What's that? You don't want to move to another server? Guess what? Neither do most of the players on any two servers you might try to merge.

What if they don't want that? Do you even care what other people might want?

Why would two completely unrelated SGs want to merge? Whose base would they get? I know! Just erase everything from both bases and give them a plot that's twice as big! That wouldn't cause any problems, right?

Nobody wants a server merge. It would be bad (putting it mildly). If you want a higher-pop server, move to one. Period.

Ah right this means what exactly? If I'm not on the right team hosted by the right person then its a dud? I for one would rather be on a TF that was inclusive of players to have fun and not one that would exclude them because they were the wrong build.

As for a server merge, now way it would create too many head aches to want to deal with.

To Matt the best thing to do is maybe try announcing some event in the forums to give people enough time to know about it. So far the TF's I have posted about forming here in the forums has had good response for participation.

Here we go. This is the line of thought that dominates the next stream of screams. Good questions to be asking for this situation.

While they already did this and granted a prestige boost on December 10th, 2007 (Thanks again for the Double running of the script) alongside a Debt Wipe, it really doesn't matter how many people can join an SG if you're merging apples and oranges.
Ok, the easiest way I can describe this is to have Kool Virus tell us exactly how he would unite the Ku Klux Klan and the Black Panthers in a 1950s era America, or perhaps the Outlaws and Hells Angels in a more contemporary setting.
The point being that, much like the whole server merger, it just won't be done.
