LGTF inquiry
There are teams who specifically look to 'speed' through the LGTF.
This involves getting Miss Yin killed in the 1st mission, getting Infernia and Glacia killed in the 3rd, as well as stealth/recalling to objectives and defeating the minimum possible mobs.
Its certainly not how I like to run the TF, and I think if the team were plannign to run in that manner, they should have been better at communicating this ideally before it started and certainly during it.
For a 'general'/non-speed run through it sounds like you were going just fine.

You never said what they were complaining about.

orly? wow, it all makes sense now. Ok....gee that does suck. I suppose if you just want the merits....well thank you very much for the info.

Some people run task forces so often for quick Merits, they have trouble understanding that someone may have:
1) Never done this before
2) Never done the "speed" version before
3) May not like the "speed" version, as it involves sacrificing hostages and captives
The kin may have given you grief, but the rest of the team also failed by not explaining to you what was going on, or the strategy to be used. I agree with Dumpleberry. </e shocked>
Take another shot at it sometime, and mention you've never completed one before. A good team, and team leader, will explain what is expected.
Or, lead one yourself, saying "This will be done the BRUTE WAY! No MERCY! NO SURVIVORS!" Lotsa ambushes on that last mission! Yee haw!
Did an explicit "KILL ALL" ITF recently. Didn't take as long as I thought...

This is exactly the reason I don't join LGTF anymore. The three things I really hate. The speed groups don't tell you what the plan is, they run past all the spawns, creating massive aggro that kills the people trying to keep up, and kill off the people they're supposed to save. Last one I was on, 5 people died running through the sewers to the next rider. Definitely in the not fun category for me.

In my opinion, "speed LGTFs" and "speed Edens" are the most unsatisfying TFs to be part of. There are rooms with wall to wall mobs who are fairly easy to fight with a full team, and you're just throwing all that XP and loot away.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Doesn't failing missions on TFs/SFs drop the amount of merits you get? At least, that's what I think I remember... or was it just a rumour?

BTW, very often, the speed runners are vet TPing Penny insted of killing her, so they failing only 3rd mission.

lol, I'm probably going to run one soon with some dudes from work to get a feel for it. I really was doing a good job!!!! Managed to keep aggro even though I'm an EM/ (thanks to the Mu powers =D ), stayed alive through the x8 mobs coming out, each one Orange/red con, then noticed that I'm not seeing any bot lasers from the mm or any other powers besides the riktis wizzing through the air.
Ahh well, got to use the global ignore option for the first time, lol. I agree though, when an evidently new person asks what they're doing wrong, myself I would explain what the plan is, rather than just heckle and rant about a 6 month vet that hasn't done an LGTF before. I mean so what? Life doesn't always allow us to spend 10 hours a day doing TF's and SF's and perfecting strategies.....(as much as I'd like it to)

Heckling someone because they haven't done a particular TF/mission before is just plain rude. I'd much rather have someone admit they haven't done something than pretend they have and possibly screw things up.

It's just stoopid elitist mentality.Like asking for your build/at/etc before starting a tf/sf/mish/etc.
Speed runs are just as bad..yes some content can be skipped, but, not informing the rest of the team is just plain rude.
Some good ole fashioned Praetorian pistol whippin is in order then...
Most speed teams I join are teams where everyone knows the drill. The kinda team where, during an ITF, the leader only has to say "sybils", "cysts", "gens", "towers", "to rom" and we're done in 25 minutes or less. That's what I enjoy. You can get XP from doing regular missions, but TFs are the best source of merits, and I prefer getting them quickly.
That being said, jerks like those the OP teamed with were just that: jerks. A good team leader has a plan and makes sure everyone knows it. Jerks come in all varieties and aren't limited to speed TF teams.
@Demobot
Also on Steam
I prefer semi-speed TFs where you take shortcuts and stealth where you can, but without purposely failing the mission.
So for the LGTF, you fight to Penny, but then use Assemble the Team to get her to the door and fight the CWK.
You rescue Galatia and Infernia and beat the AV, but you stealth find and rescue the last two hostages.
That sort of thing -- basically leaving out the boring stuff.

Merits are the same for failed or successful missions. The rumor I heard that if you fail 2 LGTF missions, you'll get 1/2 merit reward, turned out to be just a rumor.
BTW, very often, the speed runners are vet TPing Penny insted of killing her, so they failing only 3rd mission. |
The way it works is as follows: Failing the last mission of a Story Arc or Task Force will cause the Merit reward to be reduced. The exact reduction depends on the total number of missions in the Arc/TF. Failing missions prior to the final mission does not affect the reward.
Off the top of my head, the following TFs are failable:
Cavern of Transcendance (let the timer run out)
Eden (let the timer run out)
Abandoned Sewers (let the timer run out)
Katie Hannon (let Katie's Soul die)
Though they seem failable, neither Hess nor Hero Respec trials are failable. With Hess, you have already won when the self-destruct is initiated, getting blown up just gets you a little debt. With the respecs, failing the last mission does NOT end the TF. Calling the contact results in them telling you to try again and resetting the last mission.
Every other TF ends with a goal that can't be failed. As such, any TF except the ones I listed will give full merits, unless the team disbands before completing.
@Roderick
It's not a rumor, it's in the patch notes. Of course, as it's passed from one person who doesn't know what they're talking about to the next, it gets more and more distorted.

Katie's Soul... isn't she a Hero-class entity? How do you get her killed on purpose? All the times we've accidently strayed off course and she aggroed something, she usually mops up mobs with no difficulty, but just takes a bit of time due to preferring single target attacks.
Oh, for LGTF... one shortcut I do regularly is on the last mission: Stealth to the corridor before the final room, clear that out for a breather, and then pull the AVs (and their minions) into the corridor. Once both are down, simply destroy the four generators as fast as possible (pop four purples, or a tier9, or something similiar) without worrying about the mobs surrounding them to end the TF.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
So is there a certain way to doing the LGTF? What I mean is, is there a certain way that players go about completing it?
I was doing one last night for the first time as my brute, but got harped on to the point where I quit for.....well....I don't know because instead of explaining the plan to me when I said I hadn't done one before, all I received as a response was "SRSLY?!" All I was doing was running in and hitting mobs to take aggro and build fury, last I checked that's what brutes do, lol.
So, anyone wanna help me prepare for next time? What's the best strategy for this? Cause beating up stuff as described in the nav window is apparently wrong.
