Least Common Villain Archetypes

I've wanted to ask this question for awhile now. I'm "new", I guess. Newer. Not been playing enthusiastically for too long, though I've popped in here and there over the years.

I enjoy Villains. And I wanted to know which two Archetypes are the least common - not including the epic archetypes.

I have been told that dominators and stalkers are the least common classes, as a result of some bad rep in the early days.

For those with more experience, which archetypes do you see the least?

Cheers and thanks.

From most of my teaming experience, Dominators for sure, but I always feel I see Corrupters less than anything else.

Teams full of melee (Brutes/Stalkers) then no Corr at all. :/

In fact, I was running Redside for quite awhile, and I kept getting full melee teams.

So, what do I do? I make a Corr.

Wouldn't you know it...all corr team. All Corr/Dom team. Oh look, 1/2 Corrs & 1/2 Melee team.

So, I go back to the stalker I wanted to level up more...all melee team. All melee team. Oh look, we found a corr. All melee team. *sigh* heh

beyond level 10? stalkers, then doms.

It's possible I'm not seeing stalkers because they tend to solo, but I'm not sure about that.

That's about what I thought, I do appreciate it. I ask only because I see a ton of doms and stalkers on Mercy, but the ratio seems to change very drastically after that. Guess not too many folks manage to get their doms or stalkers to a very high level too often.

May I ask - do these ratios hold true even in the PVP going crowd? Or are the ratios very different in the PvE/PvP environments?

oh very very different in pvp, in pvp doms and stalkers are the norm.

Figures. I've got this personal thing, I can't stand playing a class I'm going to see a lot of. I, however, enjoy both PvE and PvP play. ...well son of a crap. What to do now, I wonder. It's not to say I'm looking for a class I'll NEVER see again. That's impossible. I just enjoy playing what isn't played often. Archetype/powerset.

New question, if the wonderful CoH community feels inclined to answer:

With Doms/Stalkers being somewhat of a rarity in PvE, but apparently very common in PvP. What then, would be uncommon powersets?

I've also considered simply running Corr, in hopes of not showing up too often in PvE or PvP.

My brain has aches.

Pick something you like the look of, find a dencent concept, ignore what other people play.

I find it helps more to play things you find fun. Me, for example, I just can't get into controllers or doms. Im a damage person. That said, I still enjoy my old main and tanker, even though I've never made another. Possibly because he's so hard to trump

As for powersets...hmmph. Not sure, tbh.

I'd run a mastermind if I had a bit more control over the appearance and nature of the minions, but I'm super picky as to that. Artist's mentality, I guess.

Right now I'm running three characters, a dark/dark corrupter (chosen for survivability, mostly), a mind/psi dom, and a stalker who's yet to really been defined. I'm just looking to see which one winds up as my primary. Might run with the corruptor.

I guess we'll see. If anyone else has suggestions or input, always appreciated. Cheers to all.

You should have enough slots to do what I do - make one of everything! That way, you'll get more knowledge of how each class works, and what each one can do.

As for what I have villain side...

Brutes: 5 (nrg/inv, elec/elec, ss/sr, stone/wp, claw/ea)
Masterminds: 4 (thug/dark, ninja/ta, zombie/storm, robot/trap)
Corruptors: 4 (rad/rad, ice/cold, sonic/thermal, ar/trap)
Spiders: 2 (crab, wolfspider/bane)
Widows: 1 (fort)
Stalkers: 1 (claw/nin)
Dominators: 1 (plant/psi)

If you decide to make more than one of a specific AT, remember to choose different powersets for each one. Doesn't have to be a FotM, or it can be one, as long as you find it fun.

Fun takes priority, definately. I've played all the classes (except the epic archetypes) a fair bit, enough to get a feel for them. My favorites wound up being dominator, corrupter, stalker, not necessarily in that order. I've got a lvl 20 something Mind/Psi dom, a couple 20 something stalkers on another account from a year or two ago, and now I'm running a Dark/Dark Corr and I'm really enjoying all of them.

Corrupter seems to be a pretty happy medium thus far. I haven't encountered too many others, and all the ones I do encounter are of different powersets. I will probably roll with one or two primaries and tag along the third one as I feel the urge.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Doms were pretty low on population for a while there due to their hardcore nature and lack of meaningful reward without a huge investment. Since the buff they've been becoming more popular. When I build teams, my common practice now is to have 2 Doms. I remember before the buff when there wouldn't even BE two Doms in my range online.

They're gaining popularity slowly now. And for good reason. Doms are my new favorite AT. They're redside Blappers with control. I have a Plant/EArth Dom I'm just in love with. If you want a fun experience on a somewhat under-appreciated (still) AT, roll a Dom. A powerful mezzer/flashy power user like my Plant/Earth will catch attention and garner praise from teammates. I've gotten lots of feedback on my Dom since making her. People are quite impressed at what a Dom is capable of these days and I usually get someone in every team I join thanking me, asking me about Doms, or deciding to make one.

Roll up a petless Mastermind. Definately uber, ultra rare.

On the Stalker front, anything not /Ninjutsu and /SR will probably be rare. The other secondaries still keep you alive (with Elec Armor lagging behind) but the important choice is primary. That'll decide your tactics and capabilities in battle (ex: Energy Melee, Martial Arts and Dark Melee will wipe the floor with single targets but are practically worthless AoE-wise. Spines, Dual Blades and Elec Melee will obliterate crowds with AoE crits but Spines and Elec melee are a good deal slower putting down that big bad boss.)

I'd suggest Energy Aura, Willpower or Regeneration as a secondary as they aren't super common yet effective in keeping you upright. Primary I'd choose using concept but you can't go wrong with Broadsword, Dual Blades or Claws as they're effective for single target killing and AoE killing (and not super common either). Dark melee is a beast of a set and despite that, you probably won't see many at the same time as you. I actually don't think I've ever seen a DM/WP stalker like I have despite how much synergy the sets have.

I'm discovering this to be true with a Mind/NRG Dom I made a couple of weeks ago. When I do get around to playing him (darn this altitis!), I'm finding him a real breeze to play and level up. The newly added damage buff is pretty cool.

To answer the question posed above, I would have to say Doms and Stalkers as well. I do see the Stalkers around, but not in much numbers. Doms though still seem pretty thin.
