Architect Awards noms: Analysis
I'd play it. Ironically, of course.
Captain Skylark Shadowfancy and the Tomorrownauts of Today. Arc ID: 337333 - Signal:Noise, where is everybody? Arc ID: 341194
@The Cheshire Cat - Isn't it enough to know I ruined a pony making a gift for you?
12 second horror stories - a writing experiment.
9 out of the 15 arcs were authored by regulars in this forum.
How's that for a statistic?
Grats to the nominees.

Also:
#4. The player should fight undead. (3 of 8) |
(I love typing that out, it's so ridiculous)
Only 9? That's actually lower than I would have expected.
Wait a second, you're talking about the official architect awards. I've been spending way too much time and thought on my own awards I almost forgot about those.
*checks announcments*
*sees name*
*squee!*
And gratz PW on your own nom too, as well as those other 7 regulars who are also nominated in the player awards. It goes to show that the devs and players do share some good taste.
Also 9 of the 15 arcs are nominees in the Player Awards.

Not surprised about the regulars showing up in the Official Awards. They're the ones who care enough to seek feedback and improve their missions. They play others' arcs and learn what works and what doesn't. And, even more importantly, the Devs find arcs the same as anyone else...they hear about them. So, like anything, it pays to advertise
Congrats to the nominees!
Craft your inventions in AE!!
Play "Crafter's Cafe" - Arc #487283. A 1 mission, NON-COMBAT AE arc with workable invention tables!

That said, arcs DO tend to be better when they get more attention, because the author can use feedback to polish and improve them much more than they would just through their own testing.

So, "Teen Phalanx Forevever!" and "Escalation" are up against each other both in the official awards under "Best Hero Arc" and in the Player awards under "Best SO range arc".
I'd say that PoliceWoman and and I should file the paperwork to register as "Friendly Arch-Rivals", but I don't think I'm in her league.

Arc 5909: "Amazon-Avatars"
Arc 6143: "Escalation" (Nominee: Architect Awards, Nominee: Player Awards, and Dev's Choice!)
I've played just over half of the nominees for the Architect Awards. Based on the 8 arcs I've played, I've drawn the following conclusions for how to get nominated:
#1. Include a teen or pre-teen girl as a major character. (4 of 8) #2. The big bad must shout "NO! This cannot be! I am..INVINCIBLE!" (or similar) before being defeated. (4 of 8) #3. The story should involve time travel. (3 of 8) #4. The player should fight undead. (3 of 8) #5. A mystical artifact must be used as a plot device. (3 of 8) #6. A mad scientist is used as an adversary. (3 of 8) #7. An adversary must murder a relative of a major character for shock value. (3 of 8) Conclusion: * The next arc I write should be about a teenage girl with a magic sword who goes back in time to fight the evil mad scientist vampires who killed her cousin. PS. In case it's not obvious: Just kidding. Having fun with statistics. |
Afraid I'm guilty of numbers 1, 4, 5, and 7.
131430 Starfare: First Contact
178774 Tales of Croatoa: A Rose By Any Other Name ( 2009 MA Best In-Canon Arc ) ( 2009 Player Awards - Best Serious Arc )
Oh, I think I'm vaguely guilty of #2 and #6, and definitely of #3 and #5.
Heh, Return of the Revenge of the Son of Drakule Part 2: First Blood uses #7 as well, kind of. I guess that depends on how you define the term "adversary".
I only did #5 in the arc that made it to the finals, I guess I'm behind the curve.
I did none of those things, nor do I plan to in any of my planned arcs.
I guess I'd better get on that rewrite of my Mega Mech arc, it sort of uses #2 and #6.

let's see.
Yep. I did #2 and #6. Big time.

I didn't do any of those thing and I didn't make the finals/nominees. Maybe PW is onto something?

Congratulations to the nominees <^_^>m
Now I understand why I wasn't nominated! <,< I only adhere to number 2! Well ok there is technically a mad scientist in A Super Team is Born, but he's kind of a Giant Space Flea from Nowhere >.> so that doesn't count.
Now I must go console myself with a large bottle of cherry Pepsi <T_T> *sob*
(Seriously though - congratulations to everyone <^_^> being beat out in the first round isn't nearly as bad when the competition is this damn good <^-^>b)

Above Mars Part 1: The Wellington: ID 159769 - Save Mars by destroying a monstrous battleship from the inside!

Death to Disco! only has 3 and 6 though like all mad scientists Sauer does not consider himself mad only misunderstood
Congrats and good luck to all the nominees.

Check out one of my most recent arcs:
457506 - A Very Special Episode - An abandoned TV, a missing kid's TV show host and more
416951 - The Ms. Manners Task Force - More wacky villains, Wannabes. things in poor taste
or one of my other arcs including two 2010 Player's Choice Winners and an2009 Official AE Awards Nominee for Best Original Story
@PW - Police Woman (50 AR/dev blaster on Liberty)
TALOS - PW war journal - alternate contact tree using MA story arcs
=VICE= "Give me Liberty, or give me debt!"
Exactly. This trope literally occurs in one of the story arcs.

Especially since even though the devs have said over and over that you can't have an EB in a mission without describing it in the mission accept text and said arc commits that sin, too.
Or at least it did when I tried to play it and gave up in frustration and disgust.
I haven't played all of the arcs there and have heard some good things about some of them, but this is showing me that my idea of what's good and the devs' are apparently worlds apart. This doesn't bode well for my continued hope that GR will suck me back in.

So as not to derail the thread, I'll just edit my post. I thought this anonymous feedback I received was hilarious:
"Women decide if it's sexist or not, not men, and especially not boys."
Obviously written by someone with a doctorate in philosophy and maybe even womens' studies. So since there are bimbos who get drunk and enter wet t-shirt contests who don't think they're being taken advantage of by a bunch of sexist pigs, the guys watching are suddenly absolved of any wrong-doing?
Good luck with that line of reasoning.
