Trick or Treating Rocks: Questions

Last night in Brickstown, I joined up with two different ToT teams. One, in particular, killed a ton in one location. Then, the sky turned red and out of the earth right beneath us came zombies and Night Mares and all kinds of crap and about 30 other heroes joined in and we fought for around 20 minutes, or it seemed like it. I was able to do Hasten four or five times.

Did the zombies show up because we did so much damage at one place?

Also, while I was happy fighting with my pug team, another team was lfm for a banner mission. Is that something I'd need to get a contact to do? It was very easy to recruit last night and if I can't find a banner mish I'd like to just start one.

Re the first paragraph. The ToT was good xp, the zombie outbreak was crap xp, but I killed over 100 zombies just myself, picking them off before they reached the core of the fighting. Why is that?

Are there specific cities that you can ToT in? I didn't notice any in SC, and SC was very easy to pick up members for Bricks in.

Last question: I've got two hami costumes, 2 helmets of each kind. A week ago I paid 300k for each to get my fifth costume slot. They're now worth 50k and I can't put them in my vault for storage for when it might go up. I guess I just sell at this low price?

No,the zombie attack is a event that occurs it has nothing to do with how many baddies you and your team killed. Why the xp is low I have no idea hopefully someone can answer that for you as i am curious also.

The banners are something new this year no contact is needed just pay attention to the event chat like it said in the GMOTD when you logged in yesterday.

Store and hold on to your salvage, watch the market in a few months and you will see prices will go back up as the salvage becomes scarce again.

ToT is going to be lvl specific for the zones, hence a lvl 50 can't come to Atlas to ToT,BUT,if you get on a higher lvl team and they are running in their correct zone then you will be able to also because of ssk.

Hope this helps.

This is the Zombie Apocalypse. It's a new (as of last year) zone invasion based on the Rikti Invasion engine.

And this is the brand new Deadly Apocalypse. It's a separate type of zone invasion that requires multiple teams. Essentially, 4 ghostly banners appear at certain points around a zone. You have a couple minutes to assemble teams at one. You then beat on the guardian monsters until you accrue enough downed monsters to make the banners vulnerable. You then beat down the banners themselves. Once they're all down, it spawns a GM that you have to go beat down. Once that's done, you're awarded a choice of temp powers.

There are also giant monster spawns around the various zones too.

ToT is GREAT XP. I leveled the *BLEEP!* out of about 4 toons last year.
The Zombie Apocalpse is primarily a badger thing, BUT, it's great for accumulating prestige for an SG too. Same thing goes for the Deadly Apocalypse.

The GM spawns are lousy XP, but, this year, now that we have merits spawning from GMs, is a PRIMO way to build up tons and tons of merits for recipie rolls and specific purchases.

Even though the Wiki has been flaky for the last day or so, here's the central page for the 2009 Halloween Event. If the page doesn't come up, give the guys at Titan a little while to beat it into submission.

I'd recommend holding onto them. They're cheap right now because the event is going on and ANYONE can assemble the parts with a little effort.

With Event items like the Halloween salvage, you can store up to 999 of them on your person. You can hold onto them for your alts, and/or sell a bunch of them later, once the prices have risen again.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

The Zombie Apocalypse exp is pretty poor. It's due to the way the zombies are coded to use the giant-monster "always fight at your level" code. The Rikti Invasions are the same way. Frankly, though, the exp is the least portion of a ZA. It's the fun of a mass event

(and since you get exp for any of the zombies that are injured by your team and there are literally hundreds of zombies being taken down, it does add up over the whole event)

As for the special Halloween salvage...just hang onto it. You can personally carry a bunch of each one, and you CAN store them in Base Salvage containers (our base has one salvage rack that's just for Halloween salvage so new toons can go in and get an extra costume slot if they want one).

I wouldn't try selling them now...right now they are going to be rather plentiful and thus cheap. Hold onto them until, say Jan or Feb, and they'll be much more valuable (if you care about trying to make cash off of them that is).

Personally, my SG will be trying to buy up a ton of them for later use.

Choice of powers after downing the zone GM? I did that last night and didn't get a choice of powers. I got the accolade and associated badges. Granted I was lagging quite a bit and actually didn't make it to the GM before my team and others took him down.

Do you have to do damamge to get the powers choice? What are the choices?

Well, I'm assuming that the "your team has to do x% of total damage" rule that GMs follow applies to the special GM spawned by the event (it might not though, I don't really know for certain).

I was on 3 seperate events last night and I got the temp power choice each time, even though I didn't even make it across the zone to where the GM spawned before he was dropped the first time, so I'm not sure why you didn't get the choice.

That said, they aren't anything spectacular:

A 10-use Confuse power (I haven't activated it, but I'm assuming it's similar to the Valentine Event confuse power)

A 10-use Fear power (again haven't activated it yet)

A 1-hour-in-game-time auto power that gives a +15% damage bonus

A 1-hour-in-game-time auto power that gives a Resistance/Defense bonus (not sure..don't have this one yet)

Ah, thanks. I'm not sure how much damage the team did as I kept rubberbanding back to a point on the map...was very irritating!

Wow, thanks for the information.

The only temp power I got last night, as a treat, was a toggle for looking like a Paragon Protector. Hmm.

This is the first special event, besides double xp weekend, that I've been to. Though I've seen the Elohai [sp?] and the big Jack fighting in Croatoa, I think. Somewhere. And we couldn't get them apart to fight them.

The zombies have a typical minion/lt/boss/EB experience values, but they are based on the GM EXP distribution, where the percentage of the damage done equals the XP you earn, to a minimum of 1 XP for simply being there. Most zombies drop at the whiff of a power, so often the XP earned is very little. The Rikti invasion spawns are the same way.

Zombie Apocalypse XP -- Their XP is significantly and intentionally reduced precisely because of how easy they are to kill when a bunch of players gang up on them.

Greater Mystic Aspect (Giant Monster) Reward Table and Merits
-- Unlike other GMs where you or your team needs to do at least 10% of the damage to get credit for the kill and Merits, the Greater Mystic Aspect is more like the final Hamidon, which means, all you have to do is do at least 1 point of damage and be nearby (probably 250 ft) in order to get the Merits and the Reward Table.

This means that there should be no need to rush to the Aspect and start killing and doing a lot of damage before others show up.

Use Teleport if you have it or have someone on your team teleport you. Teleport overrules server v. client confusion over where you belong. Teleport tells the server, "I'm here. Period!"

Unless the GM appears on top of the drones at the AE building and nobody gets anything for 20 minutes of beating stuff up.

I think it has to do with the fact that very rarely will you be the only one dealing damage to any particular zombie. Everyone is throwing AoEs around and the xp is split between everyone who hit that zombie. If 20 people all do equal damage to one zombie, that xp is split 20 different ways.

Also, zombies scale to your own level automatically, it is impossible to kill an uplevel zombie. You get even con xp whether you are level 1 or level 49.

Since this wasn't answered specifically;
Trick or Treating only works if the player was in a zone with a level appropriate for their current combat level. The following are the appropriate levels for various zones:

The Halloween items need to be stored in a base storage item, specifically a Salvage Rack.

Or you can just carry them around yourself. 'Event Salvage' and 'Special Salvage' items do not interfere with each other or count against a total. I have one character with over 600 event salvage (Halloween items and Candy Canes) and thousands of special (Vanguard merits and rewards merits).

In contrast, the amount of 'Invention Salvage' you can carry is sharply limited (but is affected by your level, badges, and a special Vanguard item you can buy).

While there's no cap that I know of on the total of each salvage tab (other than Invention salvage), there is a cap on the size of each stack. I think for halloween salvage the cap is 999 (so you could hold 999 Hamidon Costumes, 999 Back Alley Brawler Gloves, etc.)

You should try entering "/sync" (without quotes) into the chat line when that happened. Most of the time that will snap you into the right place and stop the rubber banding.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

If that happens, bug it. Not saying they will fix it this time, but it should get fixed for next year.

Either way, it doesn't take up any room other salvage could use.

Or /unloadgfx

That's helped with my rubberbanding (a little :P).

Trick-or-Treating has been pimped a ton since last year, especially as a rare monster spawns goes. Last year even on a team you needed often several evenings to get 20 ghosts to coem ouf these doors, let alone GET them as the loved to run off back then. And instead had several thousand zombies and pumpkins. This time the formerly rare stuff and bosses spawned like crazy, and on a team of 4 everyone had all their defeat badges in half an hour or so. I also feel you dont have to wait so long anymore before you can click another door.

Are Rikti invasions the same 25%? It's always struck me as funny that people got excited about them for leveling purposes, and ran from invasion to invasion soaking up all those single-digit exp shares. If you look at your reward text, the amounts have always been pretty small. Maybe the attraction is that you don't have to do anything to leech off your team, and no one notices in the lag and blinding power spam?
