Discussion: The Deadly Apocalypse is upon us!

The best strategy to do this event without the zone crashing or being unable to reach the GM in time seems to be... ignore the first announcement.

The event was announced in Galaxy and everybody rushed there. Thirty seconds later, it was announced in Founders. The Galaxy instance crashed from too many people overloading it, while Founders was pretty empty. My team went there but we were too late, due to the zone crash and the characters being unable to log back in.

The next announcement was on PI, but my team noticed that Croatoa had it going a few minutes later. We headed to Croatoa instead. While PI was full and crashing, our teams in Croatoa completed the event with no lag at all. Around 50 people in the zone seem to be ideal, and one controller was enough to cover everything that was spawning in the green banner, while a full team was on purple, a full team of red, and three people on blue.

So: if your zone has near 100 people in it, and the event is going in another zone... head there instead. It'll be much better that way.

Craptastic Lag!! Making the event unplayable.

Boo! to the inner Arena doors not ToT'ing. Was the best place to be to counter lag last year plus buy sell insperations as needed.

Just not as fun as last year. Will try again tomorrow with the hope that some of this is fixed.

Whats sounds more fun then killing a sticks with flags.

Somebody prob said this already but WTF is up with this new event.

It seems yall are just getting lazy or did states take all the juice with him.

So thumbs down on the new event, and thanks for for failing again CoH.

Co is looking better and better everyday.

I know the devs like to do these outdoor events, but my preference is for a new arc for each holiday (with the possibility of also doing the arcs from previous years).

For example, last year it would have been nice to have an arc explaining the Zombie invasion event.

Oh, and ... no Snaptooth, please.

Yeah, I just got into my first banner event and was wondering why I only got three badges despite having teammates at every banner and being there to take down the GM.

I had a string of 5 doors give me a boss at one point, sometimes accompanied by other stuff (so far I've seen 2 minions, 1 minion, and one LT appear with a boss). Again, my 50s would mostly sneer at this. My sub 20 or mid 20 characters? Not so much sneering involved unless it's the mobs sneering at me. The probability of a boss spawn seems too high to me, at least at those levels.
Same. My Arch/TA Corruptor was not to thrilled to be running into boss after boss after boss and not getting a single damn piece of costume salvage for her efforts.

I agree that would be nice, but the EU server needs abit more of a fixup before we get lots of open missions where 50-100 people participate.
You may know that we on Union during the Halloween event suddenly found ourselves in a crashed zone. We where around those numbers fighting the 3'd banner. We all went mapservered and could not log in to our character while the timer was going (but we could log in to another alt).
With that many people in all the 4 events i participated on we had not only to beat the banner and the timer, but we had to face the lagmonster, mr Map Servered and Ms Rubberbanding.

Now please more minigames like the Halloween event (but please continue on the job for better stability on the EU servers)

Played about 3 hours without any sign of an event. They seem disappointingly infrequent.

Frankly... this event is a disappointment. I was going to say it sucks, but that might be unwarrantedly harsh. Regardless, I've seen a Deadly Apocalypse event by pure chance once upon logging in this morning. The banners went down so fast that I missed getting one of them. Since then, nothing.

And that's just on one character.

So yeah, seems like the entire design of the event has been snafu-ed, and it's been a big yawn so far.

Remembering from previous years, the event spawns will get closer together as it gets closer to Halloween.

So expect them to be happening more often soon.

Just hope lag doesn't hit across when they are happening.

So, what happens when Zombies hit the Apocalypse at the same time in the same zone?

Yep, I was there It happened in Croatoa, 2 banners down and everybody moved to the 3rd one, then a sudden and massive mapserver... well, no problem, I'm in the server selection screen, I pick Union again, then my toon... and guess what, a message popped up saying more or less "be patient, this character is still logging out, try it again later" and so I did... for more than 10 minutes!!!! and my character was still "logging out"!!.

As I had agreed to join my SG mates in Defiant blueside, I changed server and picked another toon; about 5-10 minutes after that (it means nearly 20 minutes after the mapserver) I read through sals badgehunters chat channel that those characters locked in Croatoa were able to log in once again.

I know that it's usual, specially at the beginning of any Event or Issue, that more players than usual log in in order to get the new badges / whatever as soon as possible, and that lag is everywhere, but last night was utterly madness, both zombies and Apocalypse spreading everywhere and anywhere at the same time, with almost no time to read the Events channel, and making people to flee like headless chickens.

Remember that the lag and problems of too many people destroying the banners too quickly should be a bit less in a day or two, once the frenzy of the badge hunters has calmed down a bit

Aya, hopefully that will also reduce the 'getting locked out of a character for 15 minutes' as well as the 'managing to log back in, only to find your character rolled back to 20 minutes earlier.'

I have been having a blast!

Logged in about 1am eastern and played til about 8, no problems here.

Actually my one problem was not enough people bothering to take down the banner. I was at one the whole time, most by myself, and I think 5 showed up last minute when too late

so try using off hours, try playing the game and looking at events as bonuses. And all in all chill out. If things are REALLY that bad there are alternatives...

Ah well, I'm still a newb so maybe I'm just not jaded yet but I am willing to take a few problems in exchange for much added fun...

Thanks Devs!

Probably the same thing that happens when a zombie invasion drops on top of a rikti invasion already in progress. (I could be wrong, but I think whichever spawns second just overwrites the first, ending it prematurely regardless)

Some more feedback on the actual ToT-ing.

Presumably, there are now more "tricks" than "treats" because now the tricks are what supply us with costume salvage. However, that makes looking for the costume badges incredibly tedious. I am experiencing something like an 8- or 10-to-1 ratio of tricks to treats. That's a lot of door clicks to get to 50 costumes - especially when every treat doesn't actually seem to give a costume. (Yes, I know nothing happens if you get one you already had, but I am watching my badge progress bar, too.)

At least there's a badge progress bar these days.

The event itself is fun. As this is my first Halloween, I am getting to see it all fresh and new. ToT is fun but challenging and those bosses are a lot harder on my squishy than on my scrapper but Dj now has her extra costume slot and I'm moving down the character list. It took me 3 D.Apoc events to get all the badges and accolade. That doesn't seem unreasonable. Hunted GMs with a good group for a while.

So far my only issue is the increased frequency of my game locking up and rebooting my PC. From 5pm to 12am last night I had 13 crashes. That bugs me since I bought this computer last week so that I could get away from the crashes my old PC was having. (hijack and helper logs posted elsewhere). Without those crashes, last night would have been a TON of unmitigated fun.

One of the things that drove me nuts last night was the congestion at the Oro portal. There were times when I would come out and step forward, turn around to go back through only to find 20 people standing right on it and no little blue hand appearing because they effectively boxed out the portal itself. It really made me wish that the incoming and outgoing locations were physically separate from each other. It's not usually an issue, but with whole teams rushing from zone to zone with greater frequency, it got a bit bothersome last night.

All we need is a Rikti Invasion at the same time to drive people bat-*BLEEP!* crazy!

When this was on Test, I knocked 200 doors and the ratio of Tricks to Treats for me was nearly 1:1.

My experience on Live hasn't changed, but I haven't been keeping track.

I know what my villains would be doing during the chaos of a deadly apocalypse and it probably isn't repelling them like a hero. Some of my villains might help like a wannabe hero, but others would be in there like a dirty shirt taking advantage of the destruction.

Decent enough halloween event blueside though.

My two highest level villains - a vampire and a 'living' doll - would be in there HELPING with the destruction, because, hey - deadly apocalypse. WANT!!! Cuz that's how they roll.

I too suffered the Croatoa mass-dc and subsequent inability to log that alt back in! After getting over the heartache of not only not getting all the badges, but losing the 2 I had already gained was then added to when I eventually got back in and after some ToT fun joined another event in IP...

Defeated all 4 banners, got badges, defeated GM only to find I couldn't accept reward and actually only had one badge for Fiend banner.

After several tears and petitions I logged in a couple of hours later did the event for a third time in the Hollows, very little lag and got all 6 badges.

It took some doing but in the end it was worth it and it was a nicely enjoyable different event. Much as some people complain it isnt what they would like or how it could have been done differently it has got the benefit of getting people working together for a new goal.

Good work devs!

Funny... On champion (The dead server ) I just ran into three simultaneous Zombie apocalypses and deadly apocalypses in a row and got the badge set of three diff people. And for some reason the doors don;t have a timer really on champion...I clicked the door thre times and got three treats. How come we never get a badge for killing the Fir Bolg?!

I wonder if they can use the mechanics for these events do other things?! I personally want Easter rabbit mayhem.
