GR Closed Beta - we *will* know
Ignore everyone that thinks you are in the CB. If they want to know they had a chance for it in someway or another.
Okay, so people who are in the Closed Beta for an upcoming expansion are traditionally under a NDA, and it's generally considered poor form to even inform someone that you are in the Closed Beta. This is supposedly to keep people from being jealous or badgering the beta tester for info.
But whenever I see a character ingame with the 60 months Veteran badge, or the Loyalty Program badge, I will immediately know that the player has been offered a chance to be in the GR closed beta. How are veterans and loyal customers supposed to keep jealousy and nosy questions away? |
Dont look at their badge count and then you wont know.
My answer will be "you know I can't talk about that" to any question.
@Catwhoorg "Rule of Three - Finale" Arc# 1984
@Mr Falkland Islands"A Nation Goes Rogue" Arc# 2369 "Toasters and Pop Tarts" Arc#116617
Word on the street is that Going Rogue Closed Beta started months ago.
My informants value discretion, though, so I hope you understand if I don't reveal my sources.
Just because you're offered access to the closed Beta doesn't mean you're actively participating in it. Tell them you are waiting like everyone else.
What "loyalty program" badge? My account was active before Aug. 15th (the start date), but I don't have such a badge (unless it came out today). I don't have my 60 mo. badge yet.

"All City of Heroes® and City of Villains® players who maintain an active account for the time period beginning August 15, 2009 and ending November 15, 2009"
From the official site.
The badge will probably be given out AFTER the end time.
I'm a 60 month veteran and I'm not in beta. Assuming everyone with a badge is doesn't seem like a safe bet.

However, I probably wouldn't do it even if offered. The whole idea of playing a non-live buggy version of the game does not appeal to me.
But, if thats your thing then go grab your boat and float it to your hearts content. You beta folks help keep things clean. Thanks for all your hard work.

Further more, the player's account has to be "in good standing" to get access to the beta, so there are some people who meet the criteria who may still be excluded.
It may be handled like the CoV beta and be on a different test server (not the normal one), so people who don't check their email or accidentally send the invite to their spam folder may not even know when it starts.
Finally, even though it says that 60+ vets are the first people to get in, it doesn't say it's handled all in a single wave. Depending on how many people meet the criteria and how many people the devs want testing at the time, it may be split into waves. And of course we don't know how long the period between tier1 people and tier2 people being let in will be.
So all in all... no. Looking at someone's badge list doesn't give you a 100% accurate indication of whether they're in beta or not.

Trust the computer. The computer knows all.
Thanks for the reminder. I'd actually forgotten about badges being awarded, so that's good to know :P

I was invited to a sacrificial ritual once.
Needless to say, I didn't take part. Much to the chagrin of forumites everywhere!
Just tell them you don't know what they are talking about. You bought the account on eBay last week.
We don' need no stinkin' signatures!

I will say: "I'm not in GR Closed Beta anymore; I was kicked out for intentionally spreading false information about GR. What would you like to know?"

OT, I doubt I will be checking things out so I can say honestly that I am waiting. But it is nice to know that I can check it out if I want to.
Badging in a PvP zone?
If you are treasure hunting on a battlefield wearing an enemy uniform, there is a high probability that you will be attacked.
This is an enjoy-the-ride game. "50" is only a number, not the goal of the game. - Noxilicious
Just do what i do and talk in another language . . . . they soon leave you alone.
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
As xaph points out, we dont know how the waves are being handled. The loyalty page mentions "tiers" of cb, which i assumed were analogous to waves, so vets should be in first, but that is just an assumption and could be totally off. Besides, so much changes during closed betas, a lot of info a player has, even if they werent nda'd, would be likely to be altered or flat-out changed by open anyhow.
i know who in the close beta, he been in closed beta snice issue 6 that hot dog vender in port oakes...... stuck up vender still won't sell me that hot dog
