Introducing Dr. Aeon

Greetings, Dr. Aeon! I and my fellow villains just finished smacking your future alter ego around, so if you are experiencing strange sensations of deja vu pain, you know who to thank.

Seriously, though, welcome to the madhouse. Check your sanity at the door, you won't be needing it here!

*starts preparing her sales pitch for the need to include cutscenes in MA missions, as well as doing a few Crey-sponsored ads to spread the word about Architect Entertainment*

This is great news. I'm glad to serious how serious Paragon is about making MA better. There's been a rough patch, but problems are steadily getting fixed.

What I'm hoping to see in the future:

  • A lot more maps to choose from (the ability to use arbitrary sections of the city would be great -- there are all kinds of really cool places in the game).
  • More scripting type options where NPCs can conduct "soliloquies" (more kinds of triggered behavior).
  • Some kind of decision making in missions (where player choices affect mission outcomes more directly than just killing/not killing something)
  • PvP-oriented missions (where two or more teams can enter the same map)
  • A "Game Master" feature, where one player "runs" the mission, able to control NPCs the way Masterminds control their pets. It would be like having a computerized tabletop RPG.

The last two features would make CoX the premiere role-playing system out there. Nothing else would come close for making customized missions and allowing players to tell and run their own stories.

All wonderful ideas!

A dev assigned to the Architect system? And who says only that Other Game offers a personal arch-enemy....

During the development and introduction of CoV, Lord Recluse would post as well. He was CoV's lead designer, hired specifically for that purpose. He left soon after NCSoft announced that CoV wasn't really going to be a separate game (no extra monthly fee to play both, etc.) I don't know whether that was the reason he left, but I know I'd feel disappointed if the job for which I was hired didn't really exist any more.

PS: there was an actual cost to players by them merging the games under one fee. Yes, the price did not go up, but the CoH comic book stopped being mailed to you automatically. You had to pay for it separately, and, well, not enough folks did.

PPS: This sounds like a complaint; it is not. Just random recollections from someone who's been around a while.

Epilogue: Welcome Dr. Aeon! (Careful, some of us ramble.)

You heard it. There'll be nothing kinky going on on Dr. Aeon's watch. Which is probably good, as that'd probably be awkward all 'round. As well as make it hard to tell time.

Welcome, be sure to visit us over in the Stories and Lore section sometimes too. We feel so lonely without any redname love.

Welcome Dr. Aeon! I ran your HeroCon arc today and really enjoyed it. I won't give anything away for those who haven't played it, ("How to Save a Convention"), but needless to say it's actually got something for everyone, con-goer or otherwise.

You've got a lot of work ahead of you, luckily you also have a time-travel device.

Welcome to the forums, Dr. Aeon. I'm glad to have a Mission Architect point man out there.

And while I have you here, I'd especially like to thank you for your excellent performance in my own MA arc! You really outdid yourself, if I do say so myself. ;-)

A red name to guard the AE system? Welcome indeed. Good choice of name as well, Dr Aeon is after all the designer of the whole system and we all love and know him ingame so you got some tall boots to step into here.

About choosing new Dev Choices, don't forget to check the EU where we penned down many worthy arcs. Unfortunately we cannot compete in the current competition, so that thread is your best bet to find some EU gems.

Great to see a focal dev for the MA system - its one of my favourite features in CoX of recent years and I want to see it flourish and expand

Welcome Dr. Aeon. So who dropped one of the baby rednames in water?

A bit off topic, but I had a thought today, if you ARE going to give us new Devs Choices, Dr Aeon... how about a mini review saying WHY you gave that award? Review threads have proven incredibly popular on the boards, and it might also give inspiration to people in their own future efforts, both playing and writing within the Architect system. Reviews pwease?!

Wow. I know those of us in the Stories & Lore Forums were crying in the darkness for a RedName or a dev to rescue the Mission Architect. There are several stickies in both that forum and the main Mission Architect Discussion forum of several topics which are needing attention from a mechanics standpoint.

New Dev Choice picks are nice, but at this point we've gotten over the idea of having them. Right now I think the real issue is fixing bugs in the system (and I'm not talking about the eternal farm/story debate) - bad spawns, lost maps, more maps, bad interactions between objectives, etc.

Actually, Doc Aeon, could you tell us more about the MA dev team? What resources are presently working on what goals, maybe a general idea of priorities?

My favorite NPCs is now a Red Name? Neat!

Welcome and enjoy your stay!

I would like to see the issue of custom critter XP addressed before anything else. The current system that sets Standard/Standard at only 75% XP/Inf is unnecessarily hurting arcs that make use of customs and isn't giving players any incentive to play these arcs when non-custom critters are giving full XP and are on average less challenging to fight.

Welcome Doc!

Fans of the AE system - not the farmers or exploiters, but fans - are going to enjoy having you here I think. We'll be happy to thank you for your good work, or to kick you around for making us all cry DOOOOM when you change something in a way we don't like.

Either way we win!

So, welcome again!
