Time to Upgrade the Praetorians
I think GR might bring one or two Praetorian upgrades

But they might possibly use the story framework in GR - like the Praetorians preparing to invade, and Statesman being captured, only rewritten and fleshed out, and set in the Praetrorian zones instead of being accessed through portal Corp.

I'm not sure it will be - I think the current Praetorian missions will be totally removed from the game.

Very, very unlikely, given that those missions are required for an Accolade.
|
Since Going Rogue is a paid expansion that not everyone will buy they are not going to remove those missions, as that would mean you wouldn't be able to get Portal Jockey if you didn't buy Going Rogue. I can't imagine they would effectively remove an accolade that has existed for 4+ years by making those missions GR exclusive.
Question: Did you fight them as EBs or AVs? The EB versions are chumps, NONE of the AV versions are a pushover.

I'd like to see the story advance, with the existing Praetorian missions relegated to Orobouros, and Peregrine Island reworked. After all, in one of her debriefings Maria Jenkins does say...
Make no mistake about it, if the Praetorians ever manage to mount an invasion, Peregrine Island will be ground zero. |
It doesn't really make sense for the (we hope) new, innovative mission content of Going Rogue to be preceeded in the narrative by the old and frankly rather dull kill all fests of The Praetorian War and A Hero's Hero.
Speculation has been that the majority of new content in Going Rogue is going to occur in Praetoria, with maybe a new contact or two in the normal game.
My reason for bringing this up: Going Rogue is going to be a PAID expansion. They're not going to do anything that affects the normal game, because that content is only available to those who bought the expansion. The PI arcs are probably going to stay exactly as they are now.
I wouldn't be too surprised if they decided to have Going Rogue coincide with the release of I17, that way the people who don't buy the expansion get something new at the same time. Could include new contacts in PI and Grandville, and a new TF or something.
Also: The Praetorians aren't stupid. Why would they attack at the one point where Paragon City would be best equipped to defend itself? The portal missions prove that you don't have to have a portal generator on both sides to access a dimension, because we pop out at random points in the dimensions we visit. The Praetorians wouldn't be limited to just attacking in PI, they would show up where the city is least prepared to push them back, like Dark Astoria, or Boomtown. It's possible in both places for them to establish a foothold and not announce their presence until they are ready to. As a nice side bonus, it would allow them to utilize zones that more or less sit empty. Other than a mission or two that sends you there, what is there to do in Dark Astoria? Or Boomtown? Both are big empty zones with nothing at all going on in them.

Yup.

The missions aren't required for it - defeating all the Praetorians is - so there's no reason that can't be done in the new Praetorian zones and missions

I do hope they do revamp the old Praetorian missions because, let's be honest, they are SO dull. Kill all, kill all, kill all....anyone else say [Scrapperlock] ?

Still, updating those missions to involve GR maps, assuming they get new maps, would be awesome, no? It could even be a sneak preview to GR for those that have yet to buy it once it gets released.
I don't see why the old missions and maps can't stay. I would think the Praetorians would be able to travel back and forth between dimensions.
I don't see anything wrong with tweaking the missions to get rid of some of the duller content, however I think there are a lot of other missions and TFs that should be tweaked before, like Positron. It might be a lot easier with the exemplar changes in I16, but it's still a boooooring introduction to TFs.

Mother Mayhem is still mind-riding in the Praetorian Aurora Borealis. There might be a story in Going Rogue where Mother Mayhem get's her body back.
I don't expect a change to any of these missions, partly because defeating the Praetorians is required for an accolade and partly because the devs have shown themselves reluctant to revise old content. They've previously said that revamping a zone is as difficult as making a new zone. I don't think it's a stretch to suggest that reworking an enemy or enemy group is as difficult as making a new one. Maybe more difficult.
I do think we'll see all-new versions of the Praetorians themselves in Going Rogue, but the accolade will remain tied to the original versions. Any change would require a reworking of the accolade, which would need to cover situations like, "Joe Hero defeated the original versions of all the Praetorians except Malaise. How do we make it so the only new Praetorian he needs to defeat is Malaise?" This seems more a coding issue than a continuity issue.
We saw something similar in CoV with the introductions of the Praetorians' heroic originals as fightable enemies. The difference in powers between Shadowhunter and the Woodsman or Chimera and Manticore are some of the more noticeable differences. Despite these distinctions, these characters are still supposed to be related.

Besides, Tyrant... ahem, Emperor Cole... doesn't strike me as the sort to skulk in the rubble building up a presence. He's not Reichsman. He's already got his army and his empire.
When I15 was released people were unhappy that Reichsman's return had no impact at all on the wider world, which is why it's so good to see the 5th on the streets in I16. If the Praetorians did reduce Portal Corp to a smouldering crater and turn PI into a war zone then we'd know they mean business.
Well, before they do anything with the Praets, they should probably update the missions talking about 'preventing a second Rikti Invasion'.

They'll probably have beefier versions in Praetoria. Like how the Heroes and Villains are tougher in RV. Call it...ehh, them having the homefield advantage means they're tougher.
Although invasions normally get a big "meh" (how many people go outta there way to fight Zombies, for example?) maybe they could go marauding occasionally and tie a costume or an accolade into defending Paragon/the Rogue Isles from alternate dimension invaders.
Tyrant did say there would be WAR after you rescued Statesman 5 years ago. They can be firing rockets or Giant Monster Siege androids or something.
I could see altering the content, but removing it? People are always crying "more content!" Removing any content would be an error, especially when the new GR content is an unnecessary paid expansion. Removal of content seems like an extreme conclusion and I can't find any reasons or evidence that makes me want to take that leap with you.

Replace Maria Jenkins with a new contact with a portal related arc, and swap out the Praetorian arc from Tina Macintyre for another non-Praetorian portal arc, and replace Unai Kemen's handful of one-off Praetorian misisons with other one-off portal missions.
The "Hero's Hero" could be reworked as a high level TF set in Praetoria, with Maria Jenkins as the contact.
A replacement arc could take us to the Axis America dimension, where Reichsman could be gathering extra forces to help his comeback following his defeat on the BTF, while there's plenty of scope for replacement missions based around investigating the possessed scientists at Portal Corp, who've never really been fleshed out at all.

I doubt they waste any time destroying content that is working fine to reconstruct it. I would expect development resources to be spent on creating new content, the value they get out of that is simply greater than remaking old content.
If the old content is left as it is, it wont affect any income. But new exciting content will.
Newsflash: Praetorians are already being upgraded. At least many of the praetorian henchers in the MA are.

I usually play villains, but I recently when through the Praetorian arcs with my PB. I noticed that the Pratorians are pretty wimpy compared to the real versions that Villains have to fight.
1. Battle Maiden - does not rez, and then MoG.
2. Tyrant - I can not believe that most of the others put up a better fight.
3. Infernal - doesn't summon any demons?
4. Shadow Hunter - If that is suppose to be Woodsman? if so, he needs his Tuatha de Dannan, or make them wolves. But he is probably the strongest of the Preatorians depending on your AT. I did use a Shivan to take him out.
5 Marauder - I believe Back Alley Brawler has some energy Melee attacks and Maurader is just SS.
The Synapse and Positron version seem to be pretty tough, so they may need to be just tweeked.
