Anyone else spotted them? I saw them post-i16 in AE still though it's possible they haven't figured it out yet

I asked one of them if I could buy inf from them they refused to give a website but eventually gave an email @tom.com, a chinese site, and asked me to send money via Paypal

At the goldfarmer problem:

I have spotted alot of them on hero and villain side. Petitioned them all.
They all follow the same pattern:

Same toon name as global name.
No real badges other then AE badges.
They dont respond to tells.
When looking at them move around outside AE, they move one by one. As if they are controlled by the same person/bot.
Almost all of them are Fire/Kin, minus 1 or 2 of them in each group. (might be the one used for attacking?)
Names looking randomly generated.
Costumes looking randomly generated.

coincidence? Don't think so.. Last two days I have petitioned around 25 names.
It's easy to see the diffrence between new players and this.

As has been said many times, the server status page is NOT reliable, so why bother to look at it?

If you can't login between 8am and 10am, that's the scheduled maintenance time slots.

Gosh do the forums often eat posts? Oh well this will be an abridged more readable version of what I wrote.

Union Hero RMT swearwording obvious.
Not hidden
Level50 Science Controller Gibberish name
Early hours(UK) when I often play 40 ish people not hidden 36 all 50science controller.

Effect on me before i16= removed an origin/archetype choice from game also removed Fire/Kin, functioned like an auto ignore on search.

After i16 my rubbish computer struggles with lots of fire imps, now I actively avoid portal corp. and only tend hop through ouro.

Reported all 36 alt names before i16 as worth checking while not expecting to be told of progress did expect progress.

These chaps are acting with such impunity its embarrassing they don't hide one even has a keystroke guide as his search comment.

Making me sad and a bit cross

It's really, really obvious which people are from 'That Place'
I was hanging around in AE checking my arcs after I16 (make sure they all still work...) and there was a full team of all science trollers, moving one by one and all the normal signs.
I mean, come on, there has to be some way of tracking the buggers down?

Indeed. I know it's stupid, trying to use a resource that the game provider has established ostensibly to help us but really just to wind us all up until our aneurisms burst... but I still look at it, just to see if anyone's been bothered to pay attention at all.

Oh, surprise. No, they haven't. No red name response. No attempt to fix the EU server status page. I know that Union is down, in spite of what the server status declares, because I saw mention of 'Global Server Maintenance' on the US City of Heroes homepage (which I have to use since the EU one has been borked since the forums merged).

How confident are we that the old EU maintenance schedule is going to be adhered to? I fear that the new US-centric regime cares so much less than before about the EU playerbase that we'll be losing up to 2 hours twice a week in the middle of the day as they carry out 'maintenance' at their convenience, ie the same time as they have done in the US - this time at 7am Eastern, 12PM BST, 1PM CET.

On the bright side, if I can't log in, I can't rubber band three times back into the same mob until I'm faceplanted.

You were right earlier in this thread, FFM - the last time I suffered this kind of random mapserver/rubber banding/frozen power activation/lag was back in early 2005 when we were given extra time as compensation.

I doubt we'll ever, ever see that kind of customer response again, though. We had EU representation back then, remember? These days I'm more and more feeling very much like either a forgotten cousin, or an unwanted brother-in-law, whose invitation to the North American party was issued only under the duress of a barely tolerated obligation.

It's telling, too, that the threads I'm more likely to post in since the failed forums merger are those highlighting problems and cataloging player complaints.

I miss stuff.

The EU server status page should be functional now, please PM me if any of you notices further incoherence in the information displayed on that page.

As for the weekly maintenances, 2 days ago we announced a new Maintenance schedule that we will be testing from next week on. There will be 1 weekly maintenance instead of 2, and it will take place on Thursdays to free up the Friday slot. We are only testing this new schedule for the time being and may need to revert back to 2 maintenances a week if the impact on the live servers becomes visible.

That is good news. Just wondering out loud, would it be possible to do maintenance on half of the servers and then a few hours or days later the other half? I know I would not mind logging into another server now and then.

Agreed, CoH/CoV does need it's own 'Operation Unholy Rage' ala EVE online.

They really should just up and merge the server list...infact I think this 'global maintenance' trial is probably the first step in that, when they see the game survives on one global maintenance a week (WoW servers survive on one maintenance a week...not sure why it wouldn't work here) they'll probably begin merging the server lists.

It is to be hoped.

I've been experiencing awful lag too, but one thing that I think is telling here is the total lack of response to the central issue.

My guess is there's a beancounter somewhere saying "We can't do anything, those accounts are paying for the server" or something similar.

The major in-game problem with a list merge is the global chat handles - but I'm sure they could fix it the way they fixed the name clashes here on the forums, with an "NA" or "EU" tag added where it was needed.

I've been getting that auction house Lost Connection to Mapserver error for months. It did get better for a time, but now it seems like 70% of the time I try to get WW or BM the thing crashes me to login. If I'm lucky, that is, otherwise it kills my game. I do find it better if I hang about the zone for a few minutes before attempting to access the auctions, but even that isn't a guarantee.

Recently I've also had problems getting logged out or crashing whilst zoning, as well as more crashes during normal play. Lag is bad when it's busy. Rubberbanding has actually improved a lot from what it was after one of the recent issues (Architect one I think) but I never used to get power-lag, and it seems annoyingly common now.

Not had much bother from real-money traders, but have reported the ones who've messaged me. Don't go to AE that much to notice them creeping about.

@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.

the sad part is that what you now call busy is peanuts compaired to Freedom which is lagfree with thrice that amound of people. Even when we connect across the ocean.

gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of this new system they've implemented to make the Halloween badges more difficult to obtain...you know, the one where you've at least a 50% chance to crashing the game (and your PC) if you get a Zombie Apocalypse?

I have also asked them this:

I am sure these are goldfarmers, they do not respond to any communication, even when you outright say they are goldfarmers, they stay totally silent on hide mode and are AE farming seemingly 24/7. i am sure if you followed the money/inf trail you would find these large amounts of inf are being transferred to other players in exchange for real-life money. If you want to stop the spam you need to deal with the root of the problem in a pro-active way not just react to individual throwaway spam accounts that cost them practically no money or time to set up.

I have got some for you just in case you are not researching in-game yourselves (it's sad that it's always just an automated reply and then seemingly nothing done in-game - I have been talking to a lot of people about this and it would be nice to know if you were seriously looking at taking action rather than just blocking the throwaway accounts) it's hard to tell- they are definitely still very much around:

Goldfarmer 1 @ St Martial (8 accounts):
@globals censored because of the "naming and shaming" forum rules, names that sound like they were made from an "american name" random generator

Goldfarmer 2 @ St Martial (7 accounts? May have missed one, not sure):
@globals censored because of the "naming and shaming" forum rules, mostly korean/chinese sounding names

I have attached two demo files, one of each operator (I found the program on Paragonwiki.com VERY useful for playing them back http://home.roadrunner.com/~dasloth/...DemoLaunch.htm ) and one screenshot of each operator, but this is by no means all of them, I wouldn't be surprised if there are ones in Grandville still (because of the drops) or other AEs - I know there are similar ones on heroes in Peregrine Island portal corp and AEs.
(I cannot post these or links to them on the forum because of the naming and shaming forum rules sadly, if you want them PM me and I can send you a demo, as well as the global names)

Villains:
(click the image, then click the new image that loads again to view the full size)
-

Heroes:
- -
(btw, my tank was 50, I only joined to try get a screenshot of them admitting it, but well, the silence tells it all really :/)

It would be really great if NCsoft actually took action because a lot of people are getting disillusioned about this (I have been talking to a lot of people in-game!), for every polite helpful and friendly GM it seems like there must be a lot of smothering soulless bureaucracy from NCsoft HQ stopping you from actually dealing with problems like this - rather than the more hands-on approach the developers of that other game take to actually deal with problems instead of turning a blind eye and leaving the GMs to clear up the symptoms rather than the disease.

(note, I can tell the difference between some newbie desperate for XP and a goldfarmer don't worry, I am seriously not exaggerating or anything here, they are ALWAYS going in and out of the AE portal in St Martial on Union, they only move one at a time to spend tickets reset the map etc, never respond to any communication even when you say GOLDFARMER they just stay totally silent, and are on total /hide mode. The only way to know they are active is to go to the AE yourself and see them. No SG, no badge title, pretty obviously "throwaway" accounts, oh and lots of black market badges...)

So... thinking about playing again (I registered fairly late on the forum but I have been around on and off for a few years now!) but I don't think whilst paying a subscription to NCsoft as well as buying virtual goods in the form of powerpacks that we should again be subjected to a situation where the market is ludicrous due to ingame money being sold for real money...

NCsoft know about the people doing this, they often even operate in plain sight without any attempts to hide themselves unlike other games - yet they did nothing last time I checked.

I logged on today and I had at least 8 emails from spammers over a couple months, one of which I had reported myself before - I presume other people have reported them but nothing's been done.

(It's important to distinguish the accounts that send spam emails from the goldfarmers themselves though - if the spam emails are to be stopped it's the actual goldfarmers that need to be dealt with as they can easily buy new accounts from NCsoft with the money they get - profit/loss.)

Has the situation changed at all? Has anyone seen it stop anywhere? Because otherwise it just seems like perhaps NCsoft are privately being given a cut of these "real money transactions" in exchange for immunity, which wouldn't be illegal by any means, and make the operation of CoH more like other games in Korea where NCsoft is based - but very dishonest I think to do it this way (it may be that friendly companies that are actually outsourced by NCsoft?), though as we ourselves have no way of finding out without organisations like Trading Standards investigating it is a pretty logical manuever if thinking of just pure profits (which is how NCsoft seem to regard CoH, the Board didn't even mention it in their financial meeting last time that was put on the web as a podcast, it was mostly Aion and the rest things like Lineage etc).
