Issue 16
considering how lame Cimerora was I'm glad they didn't try to make any new zones :/
Don't get me wrong.
I like that they're fixing the engine, slowly but steadily. I understand this is a massive effort, considering they said it would never be done since powers where "hard-coded" etc. I thrilled about some of the new animations, very happy I can now turn off some stupid stuff (white/black inv circles etc) and the continuation of "power proliferation" is nice as well...
...but for me as player, there's some shine, there's some nerfs (kins, don't care about the MA being deleted, erhm, deserted) and some 5th's running around. I don't mind the things they put in, it's just not something that adds to my game experience. It's the same old maps, missions, powers (although looking different) etc. Been there, done that!
Sure, a new SF would be old after one run.. too... but like the 5SF I'd at least get a few runs out of it, a few hours of untried and untested strategies. We don't even get new purple sets, do we? ..and the timing couldn't be much worse. Understand me, I want to continue to like the game, but another no-content issue right in the nose of CO launch seems like giving away customers to me. I was surprised when I realized how right I was:
Yesterday I realized pretty much everyone I play CoX with have in fact invested in "that other" game and seriously suggested I should do the same (which I flat out refused btw) since they think the same "there's nothing in I16, we need something to do at least until GR goes live (or we find something better rant rant rant)". I'm talking about people that made fun of the competition, yet they still invested in it. I'd never ever believe - especially after the open beta - they'd ever go for it, yet they did.
Me, I guess I'm "lucky", my work's taking pretty much all my time and I can hardly be bothered with the game. Posting this seems like more fun at the moment too. At least it's likely it will annoy someone that can't be bothered to actually read what I wrote!

For the content thats actually inside the zone [now], the size of it is roughly about right i'ld say. A zone with a lot of contacts/missions would have to be huge to warrant the idea that theres a lot of things going on inside, or the zone would have to be full of chaos [RWZ as an example].
Personally i dont have a lot of time at the moment to play a lot so i16 SHOULD keep me happy until GR comes out.
I do hope that GR brings a lot of new experiences for us though, me no want shiny! me want new boom badda boom!
Noob
xXx
Edit: I think i was tempted to at least try out CO but since this is my first and only MMO i dont really fancy starting again and investing another few years of my life into something to get anywhere. Co* is well known to have one of the nicest communities around though, so think i'll stay here for a while longer yet!

I hope they do more time travel zones - like medieval or ancient Egypt

I16 is still a massive Issue - even if you don't count the changes super sidekicking will bring to the game.
The amount of work that's gone into PC is huge - but like I14 and the work on the AE system, most of it is hidden from the players, so it looks like it's small, even though it's taken so much efort to make. |

Cimerora's great

Plus, we already have medieval style armours and weapons/shields in the game!
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I'm still amazed that I can't get yellow snow in i#16.
Well, to be fair, there's a LOT more than changing colours in I16. It IS a massive issue for the poor programmers and we should acknowledge that. I think the other changes are the ones we'll notice most in a few months, but for now, work will keep me occupied (although I really, really don't like that)...
...I just really miss any progress. Those poor S.C. and P.O worker's been at it for ages!
"If all you want is new mission content than you dont understand the spirit of CoH. GTFO."
Curiously, it was for positive rep. I'm glad you agree with me whomever you are.
I've been playing this game for almost 50 months. I think I pretty much know the spirit of CoH, thank you. I have one of each AT at 50 (including HEAT and VEAT), for both sides, plus a smattering of repeated ones. There isn't anything in this game I haven't done and, in some cases, redone more then once. I've done every arc there was to do. So please indulge me when I say this Issue holds no content whatsoever except for tin foil and cardboard buildings.
Your opinion can be whatever you want it to be. Mine is and will be the above.
Carry on.
Rabbits & Hares:Blue (Mind/Emp Controller)Maroon (Rad/Thermal Corruptor)and one of each AT all at 50
MA Arcs: Apples of Contention - 3184; Zen & Relaxation - 35392; Tears of Leviathan - 121733 | All posts are rated "R" for "R-r-rrrrr, baby!"|Now, and this is very important... do you want a hug? COH Faces @Blue Rabbit
I'm sorry, but I have to share this as I am still laughing. The comment above netted me the following Reputation comment:

go go blue! You show them!

Hehe Blue, you should know by now that having an opinion is a capital offense in some quarters, I got negative rep because I actually played and didn't loathe Champions....:P
I don't wanna save my soul now,
I just wanna lose control,
And even if it takes a lifetime, to learn:
I'll learn!
I think that might be because they wanted players to feel "super" from the start, which means getting new powers will mean you expand mostly sideways rather than upwards.
|
Which isnt the way most of my characters work, a lot of them are basically super heroes in training OR just havent realised their full potential yet.
Edit: Think i said before that i like my characters to have some kind of meaning in a gaming world, not to feel like a soldier in an army, but a hero amongst heroes!

Yes.. there is an Elizabeth Bathory@Liz_Bathory on Champions. And she runs 'The Court of the Blood Countess' there too.
But too me it is like another game. It really doesnt have many content at all. But the content in it is new for players at the moment!
People are blinded though. The content of COX kept you busy gaming for 5 years! I predict the content of Champions will have you bored in 3-5 months!
I16 changes a lot of this game... katapulting COX to become a new 2009 game. All it needs is the new mission tech and gfx update that Going Rogue will bring. You say they are a bit late? I guess youre right. But they have been working hard to be on time since NCSOFT took over. And there isnt more then 24 hours in a day. Give the devs some slack and a chance to show what they have been doing first. Before you give up on this game.
COX is not dead yet!
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
Don't think anyone said CoX is dead. Actually I'd say it's sort of nice to not feel the need to play anymore, but for the publisher that's a problem: I/we might realise we don't really need the game anymore.
I still log on pretty much every (or every 2nd) day, but with no new content until GR I feel little urge to actually play at the moment. Any shiny I16 gadgets will be nice, the updates are definitely needed, but it's just a quick stop to the tailor and I'm done again.
I am a bit worried about GR, because while it hopefully brings more engine updates, unless it does deliver on the "story content" part I see yet another mass exodus, even if there's some really shiny new game mechanic. I think we all still love the game, it's our ol' pal now, but sometimes you outgrow ol' pals. You know the ones that still talk about high school after 20 years, that seem stuck in the past even if they drive a new, cool car (like Koenigsegg) (Yeah, swedish quality)
Just a slightly tangental thought, but I sincerely hope that DCUO decide to announce they've got some super hot stuff coming soon too.
When CO announced their launch it really made Paragon Studios look to their product and they've delivered a lot in the first 3 quarters of 09. With GR due to land before end of 09 you can't help but feel the additonal content will be almost as much as CO has on day one... so who knows what a swift kick up the jaxie from DC will encourage Posi and his pals to deliver.
I've been critical of a lot of what they've done over the last year but we don't have too many grounds for complaint. The sub is cheaper than many MMOs, we get regular free content and Power Spectrum is exactly what the fans asked for... as is Going Rogue.
I15 was a lash up in terms of the way it was presented. The whole 5th year anniversary fell flat on its face, largely because I think the devs forgot to look outside their box that day but MA and the "anniversary patch" did add a lot.
Some of you might be griping about new content - or perceieved lack therof. But there's a shed load out there and I bet even many of you vets who complain haven't done all of it.

i m only 48 month, but i am.
Tired? Of this brilliant game? I think not. Though I'd say its more down to the brilliant community that I don't tired of this game.
Just FYI! A few weeks back I finished of every bit of content there is on one of my villains, of course not counting the MA (although that villain HAS done a lot of that as well). Yup, every single arc, SF, TF, Treespec, GM etc including but not really counting MoRSF. It's not really that much compared to most modern (last 5 years) MMOs I've tried. CoX is a very small game still, after 5 years. It's a good game, but it's very, very small.
Ok, so I might've missed a few paper kidnap missions, but I hardly count that as content. Agreed, heroes have more contacts and arcs, but missions are even more repetitive and mundane on that side since it's older. New stuff definitely scores way higher, like the faultline arcs, but I'm just not a hero player (yet I've still ploughed through most of the content there as well).
Imho the story content pretty much need to be at least doubled, especially villain side. You may consider that whining, I call it love. I want more! Still! After 5 years!

Sing you're a nice guy but if you call that love I sincerely hope you never marry. It'll end badly

I think it might be a bad thing if after 5 years of trying out everything your wife was designed to do you started trying to think of more things........ and expecting her to look better because of all the new women out there, that would be what people are moaning about in another thread. But with a wife you cant really try the other "game" and come back time and time again. Either that or I haven't met the right woman yet
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

Women marry men hoping they can change them...
Both will be very disappointed!
Edit: I guess I must be a woman! lol...
I'm pretty sure the free update that lasunches with GR will contain something that links to Praetoria, just to make sure everyone knows about the expansion - like the free update with CoV put base portals everywhere so that everyone was made aware of CoV being available.
