Bane Spider Executioner HITS you! Mace Beam Blast power had a 6.50% chance to hit and rolled a 6.27.
Bane Spider Executioner HITS you! Bash power had a 6.82% chance to hit and rolled a 0.92.
Bane Spider Executioner MISSES! Clobber power had a 6.82% chance to hit, but rolled a 43.23.
Bane Spider Scout HITS you! Bash power had a 6.04% chance to hit and rolled a 0.38.

This just happened to my NW, through elude and mindlink. I was running around 100% def to everything. Accursed RNG!! Went from kicking butt to eating pavement in about 1 second.

But how much more often would you be sniffing the minty freshness of pavement were it not for soft-capping, hmmm?

I wouldn't know myself. I'm not clever enough to really know what softcapping is, much less how to go about doing it. Luckily I've got a decent health care plan.

This was why I loved my Ice tank, you're either untouchable or dead, it's such a rush!

With crap scaling resists on Widows with Foresight, Even when softcapped if they hit you, it'll hurt.

My Widow is soft capped, but fighting in anything bigger than a 6 man spawn if they arn't Psi damage it hurts. With around 12-18 critters all having 6.5% chance to hit you, an no resistance to soften the blow if they do, you die fast.

Popping orange insps is the only way to survive i'm afraid. Even with hight Regen around 25hp a second, they still hurt.

Foresight needs a buff, you only get 50% resist when your basically dead, which jus sucks.

Against single targets though a soft cap toon owns, unless the critter gets lucky.

Against AVs aid self helps alot, as when the do hit you, you basically nearly get one shotted. especially with us having low HP i've managed to get around 1450hp with accolades, which helps a tad.

It's the life of a widow, especially as we have no control as a night widow to stop the critters attacking us, unlike a fort with it's mezzes.

If your not anihilating criters your dead on the floor xD

Exciting stuff

CT: D and Foresight cap out at 75% scaling resists. (37.5% each)

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Guess it sucked to be a Night Widow at that moment.

I still LOVE having capped defense.

Question about this? dont veats get 85% resists cap? How come the real numbers doesnt show a value for this when you move the mouse of the powers? For some reason it does the same thing for stalker SR on its passives. You dont see any value. For brutes and scrappers you see the values for each one.

Random threadjack and self promotion, I have a bit of a guide on what the soft cap means in terms of probability, aggregate odds, and survival.

And yes, random number generator is random. Probability is oft foiled in the short term, but prevails in long term.

The chance of getting hit by at least three out of four 6.50% attacks is about 0.1045%, or 1 in 957.

It would be nice if the devs added in more benefit to flooring enemy ToHit, whether accomplished through debuffs or defense. If they added a second ToHit check, for example, if the ToHit floor was 6.50%, the baddie's chance ToHit would only work out to around 0.42% with a second check. So you would drop them from 6.51% if they weren't quite all the way to the floor imediately to 0.42% once at the floor.

Of course any such change would apply to player ToHit as well, so hitting a critter who floors your ToHit (either with debuffs or their own defense) would be nigh impossible as well. But that would definitely feel more "super," in my opinion.

Ya once you get to the point that you actually get the really high resistance, your health is so low a high wind that gets through your defense will kill ya. With softcapped characters I always try to either have a (preferred) heal with it or some high resistances.

You should keep an insp tray full of heals and/or resists; I recommend checking the guide in my sig.

This is one of the reasons I'm having hard time understanding individuals who ramble on about soft-capping like it's the ultimate solution to every possible problem.

Yeaaahh, pack your things baby, here comes the soft cap.

It's really nice to hit the soft cap. Greatly enhances survivability. But it is random, as others have said.

This. Fact is, if you have the potential to reach the softcap, it's better to do it that not to, in the long run.

Personally I always thought they should add some form of inverse streakbreaker. For those who don't know, the streakbreaker is how if you miss when you have 95% chance to hit, your next attack is forced to hit with no tohit roll at all. With the number of misses before it forces a hit going up with lower chance to hit, until it cuts off completely at around 20% chance If I remember rightly. The same applies to mobs as well, though it's seen less because mobs don't typically have 95% hit chance.

So what they should do is if the mob has 5% chance to hit and it hits you, its next attack should be a forced miss. With number of hits before a forced miss going up with higher tohit chance in much the same fashion. Could probably use the exact same scaling, actually.

Edit: And I just realised I rezzed a two week old thread. Oops.

Sometimes you have a streak where the rolls are not in your favor, but more often than not being at the soft cap is a serious benefit. My Fire Tank would love to have some kind of defense at all other than IO sets. My Ice Tank and Shield tank just laugh at most things. My INV tank can hit the soft cap with a few foes around which helps his survivability. Its much better to be at that soft cap than not at all..
