aaaaand about pvp, just remember Checkers is PvP too.

I'm doing my best to be as honest as possible about Aion but keep in mind information I have limited information about how higher levels of the game are played. Closed beta capped at level 30 but I made a conscious decision not level past 20 as to not spoil too much of the game before live. All my information regarding higher levels comes from their forums.

I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and pre-order. Been seeing lots of great reviews and previews.

Of course, I wait till after the closed beta is finished, but oh well. :P

Hello all. I'm not from the Victory Server but I noticed the topic and since I'm heading in the Aion direction I wanted to stop by and read your comments.

I bought the Pre-order CE from Steam and have played CBT 4-6. I started a number of different characters but finally decided on a Cleric.

So far its been a blast. I went to the AionSource.com web site and found a Legion thats up to about 90 members now.

Also I recently read from an Admin named Knite the following:

As you know (or may not have known, I suppose, in which case you need to check here more often ) Aion version 1.5 is at GamesCom and playable. Netcurse tells me that the booth features pre-made level 50 characters so that players can get hands-on with the new stigmas. He also tells me the translation is quite complete, estimating it at 99%, though this has yet to be confirmed by anyone. This info combined with the fact that Aion officialy went into production could mean we'll be seeing version 1.5 for open beta. No promises or confirmations, but we shall see.

Have not heard or read anything regarding start of OB only rumors.

I don't know if it was covered here but in another thread someone talked about the Aion install being rather intrusive, installing some anti cheating tool onto your system. Can anyone clarify?

Rumor has it that Gameguard is so easy to bypass it is essentially pointless. For this reason the devs are supposedly considering dropping it entirely.

Basically, these types of programs are becoming increasingly popular amongst developers for games that are highly competitive. If you are trying to do anything out of game, it can be an annoyance,

I HATE that protection software. It does nothing but screw up your system, and hackers, etc. get around it anyway.

It's silly, too, as games without protection can do just fine (in the case of Galactic Civilizations II, it was a selling point not to have it, and I know people that went out of their way to buy it just for that fact alone... good thing it was a very good space strategy game, too). Not quite as asinine as the music industry suing ordinary consumers, but still dumb.

Anyway, I hope they drop it.

FYI. I'm reading now that Open Beta (whatever that date) may include the 1.5 version.

Small change in plans on my end.

For Open Beta I will be playing Eylos on Israphel server.

I am planning to play Aion at launch. Not going to bother with the beta, I'm satisfied with what I've read about and seen of the game. Couple of my old Victory pals are playing CO right now, but it just doesn't appeal to me. Frankly, I've been watching the web series The Guild lately and I want to play a fantasy MMO, although I can't get back into WoW, I don't like how they managed PvP.

This however does appeal to me:
"Aion is intended to be a PvPvE game. PvP isn't something thrown in as an extra. It is an integral part of the lore of the game." That's what I expected from WoW, but Blizzard gimped, nerfed and segmented PvP in WoW into pointlessness. If WoW: Cataclysm is ever released in a bundle with the other two expansions for a decent price, I might consider giving it another look, but it's unlikely.

I am mildly concerned about that GameGuard software that comes with Aion, hopefully that is dropped from the NA launch release, but then again I did have all my WoW gear and mats robbed by a foreign goldfarmer/keylogger thief, which was another reason I quit that game.

Soon I will be unsubbing and won't be able to post here anymore, but I will definitely keep an eye out for old Victory people, or CoX folks in general on Aion and try to match servers/faction. I've had countless good memories here, stretching all the way back to '04, but it is starting to feel a bit rehashed and uninspiring lately, and I have little interest in Going Rogue.

All I ask is that the Goon Squad/Something Awful gang don't try to make a nuisance of themselves in Aion, LOL. Hope to see some old friends in the new world, cheers!

Bad news for some folks playing Aion:

Race Balance is already in affect. You might not be able to get the race you want during Pre-selection. Some servers have already temporarily locked out certain races.


EDIT: Basically you have to wait awhile until it balances out. The definition of "a while" could vary considerably.
