The disparity between Heroes and Villains has little impact on day-to-day playing of the game, aside from market prices and availability... of which you can play the game just fine without a super-tweaked villain.
The fact that the game hinges on an even amount of each faction is broken.
I'm sure it's a great game with many other quality features, but I for one don't want to be told what to play when I log in.

You can still play the faction you chose, you're just gonna have to wait to make the character.
Right now, this is a REALLY annoying side effect of the balance. Many folks who pre-ordered will now miss out on pre-selecting their characters. When the head start begins, things should balance out and you can make the faction of your choice.

Elyos will be on Lumiel.
Sorry for my part in any confusion.
There will be at least 2-3 legions made up of CoH members. On is Israphel, I can be reached by whisper or mail to Desmodas.

I preordered the game and got my box several days ago, along with my preselection serial number. The only issue is the damn thing won't start. It looked like a couple of small updates went through then as the game tries to start I get an error saying it cant reach the patch server. Very frustrating. I've put a message through to support hoping its just a simple fix. I'm dying to give it a go.

Do they still have that security software on Aion? I wouldn't have minded trying it out, but I was scared off by the anti-piracy software stuff, to be honest. I don't want my comp getting screwed up by a developer being overly defensive (not sure how it makes sense for an MMO... we can DL CoX for free, any workarounds would be more from the account side, wouldn't it? But I know I don't know much about piracy and such).

Oh sure, they do it after there's no free trial to see if I like the game or not. Heh. At least, I don't think there is. I don't see anything on their website, anyway. Maybe I'll give it a try then. I don't have quite as much money to throw to games anymore. I already have a desire to get Total War: Empires and Murasame, so it's hard to fit everything in. 
Not to mention that I'm trying to finish off some short stories while grading, reading, and trying to get some exercise! Not enough time.

Race Balance is already in affect. You might not be able to get the race you want during Pre-selection. Some servers have already temporarily locked out certain races.
EDIT: Basically you have to wait awhile until it balances out. The definition of "a while" could vary considerably.
