HeroCon 2009 - Justice Server Events and Attendance
Haven't done anything about it yet. I was thinking about checking to see how far in advance they'll take reservations to see when I should start polling for interest (to figure how how many to reserve for.) Also, I should check to see which location would be most suitable. I'd think the one in the Pruneyard as I think it's closest & has reasonable parking available, but since I haven't looked...

Buca? Sure, count me in.
Holder's for Bacon Waffles? Need you ask? I'm definitely there, especially since I'll be able to have Bacon Waffles in the presence of BaconLordBob.
Oh, and if you are inputting the address for Holder's in your GPS, be sure to input the FULL street name, or you may wind up in some residential section.
Yeah, it will be input into the GPS unit I'm taking to HeroCon. I'll blame my sister if I get lost using her GPS and spare Red and DD.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Allyriah - 50 Ice/Ice Blaster
Cyrrena - 50 Sonic/Dark Corr
Ally Stryke - 50 Inv/SS Tank
and so many more...
Well I don't know what that Canadian dude was talking about - try living in Australia and hearing about all this excitement!!! I hope you guys have an awesome time and don't forget to post photos when the time comes - if you don't I'll hound Plas and Manoa on facebook (if Manoa makes it *crosses fingers*).
It's me, Infallible, Justice adoptee! I only show up on the boards for HeroCon, so here I am!
I'm not sure where these big cost numbers are coming from. Even if I had a room alone, my costs would be $600 (note, that doesn't include food or whatever ridiculous amount I'll spend at the store), and I found a roommate through the HC forum, so that knocked at least $150 off the cost already. (PS: We're willing to share with up to two more, so if you want a good deal on a room you'll hardly see anyway, hit me up.) I am skipping the rental car this year, though.
I love hanging out with you guys, so count me in for almost anything, especially if it involves food. I actually went to Holder's last year, but went alone, thinking I missed the group heading out. Turns out you guys were in the other corner of the restaurant!
Though it may be prudent to hold of on Friday evening plans until we hear what else is going on. Bowling was after dinner, but who knows what mama-Niv has planned.

You probably missed us because we were so blissed out on bacon waffles & assorted other goodies, that we were not our usual boisterous selves! Though how you missed TJ's lost expedition's arrival is beyond me.

It just doesn't seem so far off as it used to.
After poking around the Buca site, I realized a number of things:
1) I don't really need to wait on a response from them on anything just yet.
2) What I really need to do is figure out how we want to do this!
If we have a group of 15 or more, Buca di Beppo has a banquet menu we can draw on. As with last time, this appeals to me as with a prearranged menu, there's no sitting around figuring out what we're going to have, and more time for schmoozing! While I'm not as big an eater as I used to be, I do enjoy variety & having choices, so I was going to be sure to inquire about thier Glorioso menu when checking prices.
So... for now, I'm going to poll for interest here until it looks like we have a good head of steam going & then probably start a new "official" dinner thread.
So dinner questions to be answered:
1) You coming?
1a) If yes, banquet menu ok?
1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal?
1a2) If no, what do you propose we do instead?
1b) If no, are you weenie-ing out because you THINK you can't afford it?
1b1) Does the wording of my question above change your answer?
1b2) If no, what the heck is wrong with you?
2) Anything we MUST have (even if not on the banquet menu)?
(I figure we might have some leeway in this regard as omissions cost the same as some included items.)
3) Preferred dining date/time? My planned default is Friday Oct 23, 5:30pm which will hopefully allow us to dine without rushing to get to whatever Niv might be putting together on Friday
I guess that's good enough of a starting effort for putting this together.

P.S. Is everyone else not going directly to the page with the banquet menu after this last edit?
1) Yes.
1a) Yes.
1a1) Glorioso or Supremo to give the largest selections.
Of the Antipasti, Garlic Bread (Mozzarella Garlic Bread if we go Glorioso).
I have no opinion on the Ensalate, since I'm not much of a salad person.
Of the Pastas, Spaghetti (preferably with Meatballs, but Marinara is OK) or Lasagna.
Of the Entrees, Salmon with Pesto or Chicken Parmigiana would be my preferences.
Of the Deserts, Tiramisu.
Of the Side Dishes (if we go with the Glorioso), Spicy or Mild Italian Sausage would be my choice. If we go with the Supremo it's possible I'll see about paying for my own order of Mild Italian Sausage and will be willing to share, depending on how big the serving is.
1c) Nope.
1d) Well, you already know the answer, I won't elaborate here. However, if you only intended the No people to answer the 1c question, you should have made it a 1b1 instead.
2) Cake.
3) Friday at 5:30 sounds good to me, depending on what Niv plans and when others are arriving. I can't see pushing it back much later than 6:30 at the latest, as it will rush us too much.
As with last year, I'll be arriving shortly before 11:30, so I'll be getting in touch with DD and other people to see which In'N'Out we will be invading for lunch this year, unless a suitable alternative is agreed on.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Just for the record i have been out of civilization for a while and don't wanna read up...

I will be there, and the banquet is fine by me.
The only issue I have, and it is minor is that my favorite salad (the apple gorgonzola salad) isn't an option for the banquet. However, the benefits of the banquet menu, and the variety of other dishes it offers, far outweighs that for me. I like that salad a great deal, but it's certainly not a deal breaker.
Also, Phantom and Meg will be there as well. I'm speaking up for them because they rarely use the forums anymore.

Scimi and I are scrapping it together this year to be able to come.
It's been a better year for him than me, thankfully.
We are all for any justice group activities! it's so much fun to get together with everyone. so here goes:
So dinner questions to be answered:
1) You coming?
--Yes
1a) If yes, banquet menu ok?
--Banquet menu is great
1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal?
--All of them, we aint picky, especially when hungry
1a2) If no, what do you propose we do instead?
--we could always do sushi again??
1b) If no, are you weenie-ing out because you THINK you can't afford it?
--n/a
1b1) Does the wording of my question above change your answer?
--i'm going to wink here
1d) If no, what the heck is wrong with you?

That Justice dinner last year was jawesome. I'm totally up for anything like that again, and seeing what a good crowd it was last year means that good times are sure to be had again. Thanks for making it two years in a row of doing this legwork, RG.
To answer your questions:
1) You coming?
But of course!
1a) If yes, banquet menu ok?
Absolutely.
1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal?
I agree that the large banquet menu is probably best. It will give the most flexibility for people with limited diets (though I'm not sure there's anything vegan, if we have any vegans coming along).
Antipasti: Calamari
Insalate: Mozzarella Caprese
Pasta: No real preference
Entree: Salmon w/ Pesto
Side: Broccoli Romano or Mashed Potatoes
Dessert: Cheesecake or Choc Cake (just not a fan of tiramisu)
2) Anything we MUST have (even if not on the banquet menu)?
I can't think of anything. That big menu is pretty comprehensive. You end up with 12 different dishes.
3) Preferred dining date/time? My planned default is Friday Oct 23, 5:30pm which will hopefully allow us to dine without rushing to get to whatever Niv might be putting together on Friday
Yeah, it really depends on what Niv has planned. Since you're working on this, maybe she'll give you a hint at a timeframe for her thing. How long did dinner take last time? I can easily see this going for a few hours with a large group.

I'll be trying to go there this year since I didnt have enough funds for Comic-Con this year.
Just need to figure out if I truely will have enough money to make it out there and how.

Introductions, Obey,
1) You coming?
--Yes
1a) If yes, banquet menu ok?
--Yes
1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal?
--I'd feel more comfortable knowing the cost per person before deciding. I know your own generosity seemingly knows no bounds, but I also know that for some people, the ability to take advantage of such generosity knows no limits. I'd like the cost to be within reason for everyone, even if some people need help covering. Some people don't like to let anyone else cover their costs, especially if they think something is expensive. Keeping the cost per person down would help people feel more comfortable with allowing someone else to cover them if they need it.
1a2) If no, what do you propose we do instead?
--N/A
1b) If no, are you weenie-ing out because you THINK you can't afford it?
--Nope, but I don't like the idea of one or several people getting shafted by people with no feeling of any accountability.
1b1) Does the wording of my question above change your answer?
--Nope.
1d) If no, what the heck is wrong with you?
--Ha!
2) Anything we MUST have (even if not on the banquet menu)?
--No, but I will totally chip in for an Apple Gorgonzola salad with Arwen if we can't get it added!
(I figure we might have some leeway in this regard as omissions cost the same as some included items.)
3) Preferred dining date/time? My planned default is Friday Oct 23, 5:30pm which will hopefully allow us to dine without rushing to get to whatever Niv might be putting together on Friday
--Sounds good to me.

1) You coming?
Kinda 50/50 at this point. I'm holding out 'till the end of the quarter to see how things shape up at work before making my decision on whether or not I'll be present for the whole weekend. If I do end up coming as an attendee of HeroCon and am there for the whole weekend, it'll depend on the cost of the dinner. That being the case, probably best to put me on the "Alt" list and only put secondary weight on my opinions.
1a) If yes, banquet menu ok?
Depends on cost for many of the reasons Missy listed earlier. Considering the current economy and that a good deal of people are probably looking at their expenses much more carefully than in previous years, the more cost-efficient, the better. Plus, I hate the idea of generous individuals that I consider friends getting shafted. If it turns out being a good deal on a per-person basis and more folks will be able to afford it on their own, I'm all for it.
1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal?
I'm game for anything except the veal.
1a2) If no, what do you propose we do instead?
--
1b) If no, are you weenie-ing out because you THINK you can't afford it?
If we were having dinner today, would be able to afford it...but that can all change at the drop of a hat and it honestly depends on how things look on the job stability/workload end of things. If things look more solid and we're getting a fairly decent amount of work in, I'll very likely be there (this applies towards HeroCon as a whole as well as the dinner). If things look shaky, I'm going to be a lot more reluctant to dip into my savings (currently reserved for emergency "what-ifs") or add debt to my credit card and will probably only drop by for a visit on one of the Con days.
1b1) Does the wording of my question above change your answer?
Nope.
1d) If no, what the heck is wrong with you?
I have this thing about people covering my share of the cost, particularly when I can afford it (at least for the now) and am being conservative due to how uncertain things are. I <3 friends who are generous, but that generosity should be reserved for those who are truly in need.
2) Anything we MUST have (even if not on the banquet menu)?
I'd be happy with most of the items on the buffet menu. But I gotta say that Apple Gorgonzola salad that Arwen mentioned sounds mighty tasty.
3) Preferred dining date/time? My planned default is Friday Oct 23, 5:30pm which will hopefully allow us to dine without rushing to get to whatever Niv might be putting together on Friday
Early Friday evening worked out pretty well last year and think it'd be a good way to go this year.
I'll recommend the Saratoga Avenue location again even though the drive is a bit more complicated.
It's the closest & I think the atmosphere & service are better than the alternatives.
P.S. We are going to make sure Bob makes it right? I'm pretty sure he'd NEVER forgive us if we left him behind!
Any word on the Buca dinner? Was there enough interest?
