JFA Redux
Unless they purged trial accounts back when they restricted them I sadly still have one unused account in JFA.. I think a permanent move is best for everyone.
Edit:Yay Quat says the offline kick worked
Now only my two active accounts are in
I'll say I don't know how far we've discussed this with the devs, but is there a way we can just delete the channel and have everyone resubscribe? I know that the devs have got to be busy, but I'd think that community-chat support would be something they'd be willing to work with us on.
Otherwise, I'm fine with "JFA2009," as long as we get word out there to the non-forum playerbase, perhaps by putting a MoTD in Chrome Support and some of the other larger chat channels.
I think it is possible to do that, but hopeful moving to a new channel will be easier and less confusing for people.
We will certainly have the move in the JFA MOTD, if we go ahead with this move.
If there turns out to be another, simpler solution that we can make everyone happy with we will certainly go with that.
If everyone hates the idea we'll scrap it and keep trying to think of another solution.
I absolutely hate this idea. Yay for new channels!
I'm cool with moving to a new channel if we have to. I trust Quartermain to make a good decision about it.

Are you unhappy with the performance of JFA?
Do you feel a need to moderate more channels than the one in which you currently over-moderate?
Why is there a need to herd everyone from one channel to another under the same leadership?
Why are the moderators of JFA so sure that they should be the new moderators in a new "justice for all" channel?
What's wrong with going back to Justice-Hamidon? A channel that was working perfectly well much like JFA is now, until old moderators thought it best to move everyone.
If it's not broke, don't fix it! Is JFA broke ?
Wouldn't a new channel made to replace JFA be just like Diet JFA? If yes, then why the need for a new channel?
Isn't this too much drama for a global channel?
Most of the people on this server want to keep to smaller groups (channels) anyway, considering the differences between so many groups. ie Roleplayers, Anti-AE groups, PvPers, non-PvPers, l33tists, power gamers. Is it really the best thing to herd them all together under the current self-appointed leaders?
Justice-Hamidon was taken down for the reasons we're looking at switching now - it got full. It's just something that happens from time to time, and will continue to happen unless or until closed accounts are auto-booted from global channels. It's an inevitability. That's why Q stated that Freedom and Virtue update their main channels once a year.
I think having a JFA2010 is a great idea, and I support that move.
As far as why have a channel for everyone - why not? Why not have a main server channel where you can find information on raids and events without having to come to the forums? What is the big deal about making it easy and helping people find others on the channel? If you only want the MoTD, join Diet JFA. No one holds a gun to your head and says you have to join JFA to play on Justice.

Is Diet JFA anywhere near full? If not, whats wrong with it being the overflow channel that it currently is?
If Freedom and Virtue jumped off a cliff, should Justice jump off too?
Seems to be like there has been a lot of discussion about this in the Raid Leaders global channel. It's nice that the discussion has been made public, so that this time, the general public have some input as to what this supposed community channel's direction should be. Let's hope that "selective moderation" from the same moderators that brought you JFA/J-H/A-Team/J-B/Raid Leaders isn't on the cards.

Oh, I'm sorry. I must have been Miss Informed... I was sold on the concept of Diet JFA because JFA was very close to full. That being the case, I'm sure you could mistake me for thinking it was an overflow channel.
In reference to the OP:
The diet channel helps a little, but it is not what most people want. This morning, someone who has been in the channel for a while deleted their tabs on accident and was unable to rejoin the channel because it refilled before they noticed what had happened.

also... Who are the "we" in which you are referring to?
Shrug, I stuck up for you for quite a while because you can be/are a nice guy and I accepted the iggy with that. The past couple months it just seemed to keep getting more mean spirited and incessant. You know from the past that I'm willing to let some stuff slide, but there is a line and I take quite the opposite of pleasure in having to step in on something.
I know Smoke has said a few things to you guys about people just getting tired of the things you guys can't or won't let go of and I think he is right. I wish you guys would, I hate to see you leave angry at the game and its continuing players if you really are sincere. You are just burning bridges right now when you won't let up, but if playing the players is more important to you, have fun and good bye.
I'm truly touched by your heartfelt post above, Quatermain. Unfortunately, I don't understand where most of it is coming from and believe that it probably should have been sent in a PM to me, if in fact it was meant for me.
Cant we keep this thread on topic and civil?
Whatever works best for everyone. I'll be there in whatever new channel develops, me, the Missus, and a whole double helping of Perverse Sexual Lust.
i just read up on the original boxxy... it really put our little forum drama into perspective and i hope you guys realize [someday] how awesome iggy really is.
to the OP: i wont be joining any new jfa since i dont really use the current one anymore anyway other than in correcting stupidity, and even that isnt really all that healthy of a habit.

Perhaps its time to start asking the devs to build a system to auto-boot people from global channels after say 6 months of not having an active account. I'll move to whatever channel we move to, because I get bored and like to chat! Also, if there is a way to offline kick someone, my 2nd account @Pope can be booted because it won't be activated anytime soon.

Personally, I feel a channel is the people in it, not the name.
If "This channel is moving to JFA2010" is placed in the MotD, then all the active players will join he new channel and nothing is lost. It'll be the same channel with the same people whether it's called "Justice for All" or "JFA2010"
If we move and the channel is still full, then we know we're doing a good job and we're just full of active players!
Seems like a win-win senario to me!

I'm still confused about the over moderation comment.

I'm all for the move. I (mostly) like the JFA community and personally don't have a problem with the channel but seeing as how it's full I think it's best if we moved it to a new one.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
So, for those that care, JFA is full and has been for a while. There is some flux on the channel, i.e. user turn over. For a while we've been thinking that eventually the channel will have to move if it wants to continue to support newer users. The diet channel helps a little, but it is not what most people want. This morning, someone who has been in the channel for a while deleted their tabs on accident and was unable to rejoin the channel because it refilled before they noticed what had happened.
So it may be time to bite the bullet and move the channel or at least the bulk of it to something like JFA2010. Virtue and Freedom do this approximately once a year because of their larger user bases. In order to move it, what I am proposing to do is at some point in a month or so at least temporarily shut the channel off for new joins, which won't really do anything since it is full, and stop "supporting" the channel, meaning the MotD will stop being updated.
In that month or so, we'll try and establish the new channel, and at least towards the end, run a fair number raids and various other events through the new channel.
I realize JFA may be special to some people, but currently it can't be what it is now for anyone just starting out. We can see about opening it back up some once the new channel is going if it is really that special for some people, but it would at least be my preference to make the new channel something special and I would appreciate help in doing so.
I'm very open to feedback and ideas, this isn't set in stone, but please keep it civil.
Thank you
