Booster packs were a bigger con than anything GW2 has on their store and there was never an option to buy them with influence/infamy.
Arenanet is a good enough company that I'm contemplating buying gems with real money just as a thank you to them for making an awesome game(I don't need anything they are selling on the store). The only time I bought paragon points was to try dark control and I immediately regretted it as soon as I got the pet that wouldn't shut its mouth and the several powers which had zero effect in pvp or were brokenly good.
The rabble you might hear from gw2 forumites is that they introduced a new tier of loot and a new dungeon with scaling tiers of difficulty to unlock it(all very fun and non-grindy). The loot is like something between orange and purple in CoH but it has boosts that no other armor has currently(you can add the boosts with upgrade items). I'm a casual+ player so I won't push for anything higher than the exotics(rare/orange tier) I already have. But having something for more hardcore players to reach for keeps the game busy and makes finding teams easy so its a good addition to the game.
Oh, by the way all this was free content that 100% of the playerbase can access without paying a penny. People who "I told you so" without having given the game a try just want validation on their decision, and I'm done trying to convince them. -
Quote:Most movies aren't art either imo, both "mediums" do too much of the thinking for you. Feel free to argue it further, it just seems insulting to art to call any videogame art, and I am a pretty hardcore gamer. This sort of thing was said about movies back when it was a new thing. The people who said that about movies back then were just as right about it as people who say that about video games now.
If everyone took such critics seriously, civilization would have ended with the renaissance. -
Videogames will be forgotten because they don't add to society(imo they actually remove a large portion of the people who could have affected change, but thats another discussion..).
People who make games would have been traditional artists but they wanted to make money. Lets not put them on a pedestal like what they do is holy, you don't need to have played atari in order to make a CoH. -

Quote:We want you to experience Guild Wars 2 and Lost Shores with your friends, so on Monday November 12, we will turn on Refer a Friend Free Trial. You will be able to invite up to 3 Friends to play Guild Wars 2 with you for free from November 15-18.
To do so, you need a Guild Wars 2 account in good standing that was created before 23:59 PST (7:59 GMT) on November 6.
We will give you more details once the program goes live, but start thinking about who you want to invite!

Also, apparently the amazon sale ended, I wish I was a dual box kinda guy but I couldn't make use of another account. I played CoH since 04 with the same one account.
Oh by the way, the lost shores is a new event thats going to be starting this month that they announced with posters written in the ingame language's alphabet(somebody had to figure it out to translate the fliers). How cool is that? -
Just as an FYI, amazon has it on sale for $38, you could stick it to ncsoft and get it significantly below msrp!
(last bump I promise) -
Someone should research all the games that went f2p from a subscription model and see how much longer it extended their lifespan. I give swtor a year tops until it folds after going f2p. I might play a little just to check out what changed since last time I played in February, too bad I can't even remember the server I played on though(I had a trooper in the reddit republic iirc).

I meant that coh pvp was the only thing as engaging as gw2, coh pve is pretty much baby food because they intended for the game to make you feel like a super hero being able to kill tons of enemies without a scratch. gw2 has that feeling but only after you the player become skilled, this is very similar to how coh pvp was pre-i13.

In an attempt to keep this thread on topic, act III just happened. It was a live event that permanently altered the main hub city of the game. Its like if the atlas statue got explodedized by Rularu or something and on top of that the hole from where he came out of became a new explorable(equivalent to a task force).

Quote:I haven't started posting yet.. I guess as soon as I lost my gold name here any opinion I post becomes invalidated automatically.I'm pretty sure GW2 has forums for you to recruit people to play with you.
As cold and bitter as these boards have gotten over the past several weeks I still value you all's opinions and feel like having a common history ties us together however faint that tie may be. Dark, I always loved reading your posts on the dom boards and if you ever make the switch Elementalist is the class you have always wanted doms to be.
Feycat and the other gw2 players, have you seen the actual pvp Halloween mode? Its like ghosts vs villagers, sort of like left4dead. There's a contact in most starting areas and lions arch. Unlike some of the gw2 players who have posted I genuinely am enjoying this event, maybe because I am not max level and still have so much I want to see and try out in the game. I did a /age check and it took me 140hrs to get 70... I dunno, maybe its because their pve is reminiscent to coh pvp?
Everyone else, sorry if I disturbed the vigil you seem to be having with these forums. Remember that no matter how much you invested in this game what made you love it was the people you played with. Let's not burn the bridges just because ncsoft seems to have. -
My response to that is that nothing in life is guaranteed. Its like saying I was dumped by a significant other from a particular race/part of town/religion so I will never trust that subset of humanity with any sort of emotional attachment again. Its short sighted.
Do ex-star wars galaxies players swear off sony electronics? PS3? Major motion pictures? Holding a grudge against a multinational corporation by not playing a game is slactivism at best and the only one losing out is you if you were in the market for the product but wont buy it for some sense of duty to a few developers. If you think they were so amazingly talented(I'm not going to make a judgement on that one) then they will find work and keep being awesome without your boycott.
I will miss the best days of this game just like all of you guys but i'm not done playing videogames at this point in my life so i'm going to try out what comes out as long as I can afford the hobby and it interests me. Maybe at some point I'll start buying fair trade, organic, and non-ncsoft just to prove a point but for now i'm gonna go with the flow.
My invitation still stands by the way, press Y to open the friends menu and add the global I posted earlier. -
You arent forced to, but that you can at all is pretty awesome IMO. I was working on crafting the other night(btw, which you can level up doing!) and saw people fighting right there next to me. Mind you, its not the same as real pvp since you arent using your characters abilities, you still win/lose based on pvp learned evasion/twitch skills.

I'm not asian but that came off as slightly racist.

I've been falling pretty deeply for gw2 lately but then this week the halloween event started. Trick or treating, costumes which unlock pvp in non-pvp zones, crafting cool rare stuff from holiday loot, lore revealed in a new scavenger hunt event, the main city hub getting a hogwarts makeover, pumpkin carving, and more stuff I havent even tried yet. And this is the first act of four culminating on the 31st.
I hope you guys check this game out, it really is genuinely a great game(although much harder than CoX). If you do my global handle is Solo.9027 and I'm on Blackgate, but right now server transfers are free so it doesnt matter where you go.
I understand the anti-NCsoft sentiment around here but I felt like I had to relate how much fun this game is. I try to look at it as an Arenanet game more than an NCsoft game. If you buy it once there is no further money you'd need to give them to enjoy everything in the game so you can minimize any sort of guilt you might feel betraying paragon studios or whatever.
Also, I have not heard of any of the other recent games doing holiday events. Does TSW or CO(or any other game people are transferring to) have anything like this happen? -
Quote:Are you me? I completely agree on everything. What server do you play on out of curiosity? Would be cool if there was an official CoH refugee server, I'm currently enjoying my 30s sylvari elementalist on Blackgate.Yay! No raids! It RUINED COH IMO when they added the pseudo "endgame" raids!
Yay, I could make my Sylvari look EXACTLY the way I wanted her to, despite loot drops, using transmutation stones!
Yay, my gaming partner and I play the same classes in almost completely different ways, thanks to weapon choices and skills!
Yay! I've got an 80, 4 30s, a 20, and a 15 and I'm not even close to "done with" or "tired of" the game - it only gets "old" if you come at it from a WoW-MMO mentality - coming at it from a COH "I can play who I want to be today because the journey is the point, not how fast I can win/end it" makes it indefinitely enjoyable!
Yay, that every game is different and saying "well, I can't fly in this game so it won't be good!" and things like that only makes you sound like an ***!
+1 that.
COH was so much better when the "endgame" was just continuing to enjoy new content and roll new characters. I never liked the Incarnates - and all the new powersets PS was putting out were much more of an "endgame" for me. -
denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance
Do yourself a favor, work your way to 5 and then post. At this point you should be working on a bucket list or have moved on like I have.
Or just call me a troll for not joining in the meta coh circle jerk that this save our city campaign has become. -
You probably don't remember but you guys let me join for a while when IOPs existed to run COP and I was involved in a few base raids vs and along side of you. Nice to know you, thanks for the memories doidd.

I picked it up last night and played 3 hours straight tonight. I am honestly enjoying my tree-people elementalist just learning the game mechanics like dodge and cast times before I jump into pvp(the game auto levels you to 80 for that and it rewards xp for pve!). I only got to level 6 but I've killed a ton of what coh calls GMs and am loving the structure of teaming so far(something no mmo ever got right except coh IMO).
I truthfully wish coh could live forever but the fact that it is dying has given me the push to finally give it up for good. All these years I abandoned so many mmos because this game was comfortable and since the pvp revamp that feeling just got weaker and weaker until 8/31.
If anyone wants to join me I'm on Blackgate server named Matriculated.(cool names are impossible to come by since they're global :/ )
Edit: also you guys need to be less butthurt, this game is 8 years old, get another hobby. NC is a business. Don't hate the player, hate the game. -
I was never much of a lore junkie but i always wondered what was the story behind the low level coralax in that pond outside the walls of grandville?
In case I don't get another chance I want to thank you(all of the other CoH staff as well) for your work on this game. Even though I didn't agree with many of your decisions, I respect all the blood and sweat you invested in something as trivial as my recreation. Good luck to all of you in the career world. -
I'm curious as to which ivy bridge chip you are using. I recently built my brother a i5 3570k based rig for adobe cs6 work and I have used it for the game as well. All it needed was some fast ram and it runs the game beautifully. I think the whole build was around 400 after adding a ssd and psu. It makes me wonder why people ever bother paying an extra 200 if all they play is this game.
Edit: I used arctic silver paste if it helps this discussion, just removed the stock putty on the included cooler with a razor blade and rubbing alcohol dabbed with cotton balls. I only run one instance but after a full hive hamidon raid or the shark week mumbo jumbo I've only peaked at 65C. -
Trying to decide on a patron pool on a new toon I was wondering if the new customization options will allow us to change colors on patron pets too? It would make a differences in which pool I take because I don't really need any more powers after 38.

Quote:I was not aware, thanks for that info. I can probably just PL to their minimums with this account so it shouldn't be a problem as long as my computer can handle two instances of the game. The SSA arcs have minimum levels, by the way, starting at 10 for the first one and as high as 40 for the last three episodes. That would unfortunately make it difficult to play through them quickly with a new account, unless you're REALLY good at leveling quickly and/or get a friend to PL you.
Are the SSA's solo friendly? I'd probably run through on some flavor of offensive defender. -
I don't really care, just curious. I had the urge to buy a super pack back when I first reinstalled the game but lost it when I saw ATOs were on the market for inf too.
One deterrent was that super packs are only sold in points and points come in multiples of $5 minimum. This is a straight dollar value purchase.
I might just roll a second account and play through the VIP story arcs and then let it lapse. -
If so what's to stop someone from creating new accounts just to get 5 super packs for a dollarand then repeating?
