Granted, except that it's a Marie Antionette-style "Let Them Eat Cake" emote, wherein the character sniffs disdainfully at the needs of the citizens of Paragon City. Immediately afterwards your character is beheaded, which deletes the character from your account.

I wish I had more time to play.

  4. Thanks, everyone! I'm really really pleased with how it's coming out. I will post a final shot or two once it's in the condo and everything's on it. For now, here's the hutch part with a couple of coats of poly. It really brings out the grain in the wood.

I have several orders pending from friends for more desks, but I don't know if I want to go through the hassle of using rough lumber again anytime soon. However, I might make myself a couple of large bookshelves to replace the ones in my office/gaming room next year.

And Phan, the closest I could come up with using the materials I had are a couple of places for hidden surge protectors. Maybe my next project will be a little more potentially lethal.
  5. So I haven't been around much lately. Mostly I had been traveling more than usual to cover for a co-worker in another part of the country. Even hen I was home, I was distracted. Partly waiting for new content, partly trying CO (and not liking it), partly distracted by Majesty 2, but mostly working on a new project.

Some of you might remember the desk I play at:

Well the desk has been falling apart. It's particleboard, and I had to take it apart and reassemble it when I moved into my condo. The keyboard drawer falls apart every few weeks, and I got a new computer with a larger case that sits just to the right of the monitor in the above picture. This leaves me with less room, and it bugs me.

My parents have been storing a pile of rough cut cherry wood to use for something, but they could never decide what. I asked if I could build a new desk with it, and they figured that would be as good a use of the wood as any, plus it would make a little room in their shed. I bought a sheet of cherry plywood to use for most of the desktop.

It took awhile for me to get the wood planed to a uniform thickness, but I got it done with the help of a friend. That alone took most of the summer. Once it got planed and joined my father and I would get a little woodworking done on weekends and weekday afternoons. This is the final unfinished result.

It's an 8'x7' desk, with two drawers on each end. I've started putting coats of polyurethane on it to finish it, and it's looking fantastic. After that I'll just mount the drawer handles, disassemble it into five pieces (done by design so that I can move it as much as I want), toss out the old desk and move the new one in! Woo!

Depending on your perspective, every single thing you or I have to complain about it our lives is trivial, isn't it? And yet, that doesn't make them invalid or unimportant to us.

When I was in the ER last month, the staff kept asking me what my pain was on a scale of 1-10. I was in so much pain I was crying in an Emergency Room, so I kinda figured a lot. But all my limbs were attached. They had a crucifix on the wall and I thought, "Hell, that guy has got to be a 10." I said I was a 7, maybe an 8. Then they gave me the chart with the pictures and, according to the frowny faces, I was much higher on the scale than I thought. Perspective is everything. But just because I didn't have a leg torn off didn't mean it was no big deal.
    Come on, Missi, really?

So if we continue with your analogy, if you were in pain and had at least four ways in which you could completely get rid of it with little effort required on your part, you're going with Option 5: Rant?

    Really??

As with big signatures on 5 word posts, you're making people scroll and not adding any value to the conversation. If that's what people want me to think about their posts, that they add no value to a conversation, just visual hot air, they can add all the space they want.
My point is merely that it's a pretty trivial complaint, especially since I can address it on my end. If it bothers me that much I can ignore the posts of someone with a history of huge blank spaces for little reason or large signature images, for example, though I'm not sure if that will eliminate their signature as well. I imagine it might, but I haven't tested it on these forums. Or I can set my browser to ignore specific images, or at least images from specific sources.

To me, having to scroll past a large signature pic or a bunch of blank space isn't bothersome enough to get upset over. YMMV, of course.

I never realized what torture it is to move one's fingers and hands. Especially for those of us who play video games, the repetitive moving of our upper extremities is tantamount to running a marathon in plate mail in the Amazon.

Number of Ways in Which I Can Scroll My Screen, In Order of Most to Least Effort Needed.
    • Spin the mouse wheel with my index finger until I'm where I want to be. Might take many spins if I have to scroll a long distance. Weep with agony if necessary.
    • Press the Page Up and/or Page Down keys until I'm where I want to be. Fine tune position with the mouse wheel or the up and down arrow keys if I don't have an active cursor in a text box. Adjust wrist brace as needed.
    • Move cursor to the right side of the screen, click and drag the scroll bar, release when done. Click up or down arrows at the top or bottom of the scroll bar for line-by-line scrolling, or use mouse wheel or arrow keys. Curse the precious seconds of my life lost.
    • Click mouse wheel, then move cursor above or below the scroll icon that appears. Hold the cursor still when the screen scrolls at a speed I like. Change speeds simply by moving the mouse a little. Click the mouse wheel again to end. Stretch between movements if muscle cramping develops.

There may be other ways as well.

    hello

First, welcome to City of Heroes and the Justice server!

There are some ridiculously fast ways to level in this game, but that tends to create players who don't know how to use their powers most effectively. The best way to gain levels as a new player is really to run missions, not AE teams where you sit around and rely on higher level characters to annihiate easy mobs for huge XP.

There are still people who run teams for missions, just ask around in the broadcast channel. Good luck, hero!

This isn't the forum for it, but I will agree that Kitties really have to work to survive aggro from balls of yarn, whereas I've never seen a puppy of bunny be really threatened by them. I'm not saying kitties need more damage, but they could use something to bring them more in line. Having said that, this isn't exactly City of ASPCA, so traditional canon may not necessarily apply.

It has uses and in the right hands can be a very valuable tool. It will give you a bit of breathing room, stun, and acts as a nice secondary taunt.

All that being said I found it was redundant once I took Foot Stomp. It is a relyable knockdown with damage and a great aggro management utility. The only real benefit offered by Hand Clap over Foot Stomp is the stun. If we could slot for -kb it may be useful but to most the stun is not worth scattering the mobs.

I would only slot it if you were looking for a place to put IO's for set bonuses.
It's double-skippable on a Shield/SS tanker with Footstomp and Shield Charge. It used to be fun to take as a throwaway power at 49, slot two knockback enhancers at 50, and blast groups of level 1 Clockwork to the four winds in Atlas Park for laughs, but that's about it.

And once you accept that X is closer to characters like Atom Smasher than it is to those like Superman you'll see that Tankers are already pretty much doing their job. But we all know that will never happen; you won't be happy until Tanker damage exceeds that of any other AT in the game, simply due to your kryptonian fixation. This thread is merely the most recent evidence to support that statement, since you refer to doing base damage as 'hitting like a girl' simply because it's less than what other melee classes can do.

Personally, I think Statesman was in error in that favorite quote of yours, and am glad he's no longer associated with this game. I don't feel Tankers need to one- or two-shot everything in the game simply because Superman could do it -- if he let himself go. And interestingly, in the JLU clip you love to post where Superman does let himself go, he still doesn't actually defeat Darkseid.

Firstly, Castle looking forward to the i11 beta puts this quote at quite some time ago, circa i10. July or August of 2007.

At that point, all ATs were still reeling from IOs in i9 only a couple months before. Castle's data was obviously from previous to that. The landscape of the game changed quite a bit in the time period. IOs definately affected statistics. It's not too much of a leap to suggest Tankers may not compare the same then as they do now.

I'm not dismissing your quote, but I am saying that's quite some time ago. Things have changed in the game massively. Things can easily have changed with Tankers.
Why doesn't that stop you from bringing up even older quotes from Statesman?
