hi

im new to this game and have been playing on and off for about a week. at the moment im finding it hard to find a group of friends and especially hard to get new powers. when i played wow i got up to level 20 in about the same time so i hope u can understand why im depressed by still being level 6. people told me about how cool travel powers were in this game but im yet to try any of them. i guess what im really asking by posting all of this is to ask if theres anyone out there that would like to help me out. i currently dont belong to a supergroup and would love to. i made a defender because i like the idea of helping out people that i team with, but as i said i cant seem to find anyone to play with. can anyone tell me what the fastest way to level is?

hoping that i chose the right server

First, welcome to City of Heroes and the Justice server!

There are some ridiculously fast ways to level in this game, but that tends to create players who don't know how to use their powers most effectively. The best way to gain levels as a new player is really to run missions, not AE teams where you sit around and rely on higher level characters to annihiate easy mobs for huge XP.

There are still people who run teams for missions, just ask around in the broadcast channel. Good luck, hero!

I'm going to have to disagree with Electronite. The broadcast channel isn't the best way to find teams. It's full of spam, and many people simply turn it off. There are two Justice-related chat channels that may help you out: JFA2010 and Chrome Support. These are generalist channels for teaming, badge-hunting, etc.

Also, you've already found the forums, and they're good for finding information on Super Groups, character builds and other features of the game.

Finally, don't worry about the fastest way to level up. The early levels will go by fairly quickly, and you can get your travel power by level 14. By rushing to 50, you'll miss more opportunities than you'll generate, I think.

Welcome to CoH and to Justice!

Broadcast in Atlas park can be... IS very spamy.

At level 6 you can take a train to King's Row, and when you get there it is usually easier to find a team that is doing missions over broadcast.

You can also talk to a detective there, he will be marked on your map when you first enter the zone and will be added to you list of contacts, and he will give you a radio that you can use to find missions if you want, or you can talk to your character's contacts.

Welcome to CoH and to Justice!

I agree with Mari about moving on to King's Row. It's much less spammy and will be easier to find a team there.

The global channels are a great way to find people and teams as well.

Well it's always hard to find Friends,For me when i first play this game i was Anti-Social and i Decided to form an Sg after hitting 50,I started making Friend and breaking out of that Anti-Social behavior.Joining a Active Super Group is the best way to meeting people,There a Super Group Roster in The Atlas City Hall is use to look up Super Groups, try looking for a top 100 sg sometihng that been around for a while is Always Active.Next thing to do is to join a Global Channel,Like Chrome Support,JFA or Something Else and if that doesn't work try another Server, maybe you don't fit in on this Server,Freedom is more Active and has more people and Role Playing Server Virtue these are two big server Coh has to offter.

Try making a Empathy Defender or a Kinetic,
everyone freaking need these on a team.

Also try to Form you own team,Speak with people in Atlas We all call them Atlas Bum,they Always gather in one Spot and talk about stuff, try befriending them.

Never play another NcSoft game, If you feel pride for our game, then it as well, I Superratz am Proud of all of you Coh people, Love, Friendship will last for a lifetime.

Welcome Kittycat 15.

As with any game, there is a bit of a learning curve. Don't worry about it, things will get faster with time and experience. I agree that you should move to King's Row. When you get there, you will see a waypoint for a Detective.

Go talk to him and that will open up your ability to run "scanner" missions. After speaking to him, you will see a radio at the top of your contact list. If you click on it, it will give you a list of three missions you can choose from.

After doing a few of those missions, it will direct you back to the Detective to do a "Safeguard" mission. You have to protect a bank from bank robbing villains. If you complete this mission, you will get a temporary travel power.

Since you are new, I would also recommend you find someone to team with, especially for the safeguard.

This is a good starting point for information regarding global channels.

http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Global_Chat_Channel (This entire website is gold, don't forget it).

Making global friends will be an important way to finding decent companions on Justice.

A second way is to join a super group that has a decently active base. You may find better initial support in joining a big super group, but some may simply force you into grinding for prestige.

If it wasn't very clear to you by the other posts, you can complete missions solo by running scanner missions and other tasks. At the low levels, there isn't much differentiation yet between the different archetypes, unless you've made a pure support toon.

However, it does sound like you are looking to find some people to help you through the massive learning curve that this game has managed to build on over 5 years and 15 issues. I've found the tutorials cursory and documentation pretty lacking.

If you have any questions, you can contact me ingame @pumbumbler, same as my forum name. I will try to help you out if I can, but I'm a jaded cynic and I tend to do task forces, which lock me out from inviting new team mates while running them (and have level restrictions too).

IOW, I'm a pretty crappy gfriend to have but if I'm your only gfriend, well, I'm your best gfriend.

And welcome to Justice.

PS. I was going to make a list of good websites for you until I got lazy and googled for someone else's hard work to steal.

This is what I found.

Welcome to the game and the forum, Kittycat15

The tutorial gives the basics of gameplay, but there's been so much new stuff added that it can be quite confusing when you first start - but you can ask questions in the help channel by typing /hc in front of your message, and other players will help answer your question.

Welcome to the game. There's lots of good advice here already, especially about the many global channels to join.

Defenders are great fun to play, but in the very low levels, they don't solo quickly. (Some never solo quickly) You may want to start a new character in addition to your Defender, one that solos more easily. (Scrappers are great for this, especially Regen and WillPower in the lower levels). That will give you some more options in terms of being able to level more quickly when you're on your own versus playing on a team.

On your team bar, there's a place to add some search comments and change your status. Make sure you have it set to show that you're looking for a team and add a brief description or comment in the comments field. I usually add my powersets so that when people see a list of Defenders/Controllers/whatevers online, they can quickly see what kinds of powers I have without having to ask me or invite me to find out.

Here on the forums, you may want to include some additional information about yourself, such as what time zone you're in, what times you're usually on, and your global chat handle or character name so that people here can find you online. If you're not sure what your global name is, check the chat window when you first log in. You may need to scroll around a bit, but it should tell you the global name you're logged in under.

To send a global tell to someone, you need to include the "@" symbol before the person's global name. That will send a message to the player no matter what character or server he or she is on or save the message for the person to get upon the next login. It's a great system and allows you to better keep in touch with friends once you do make them.

I don't know if I'll be online tonight, but my global name is @MissInformed. You can send me a message and I'll reply if I am.

Welcome to CoH!

Kitty,
Welcome to the game and the forums!

If you still haven't found a good set of teams or friends to team with....

Send a global tell to @Cosmic Herald, I will send you a team invite.
I am currently on a team with some buddies.

We are leveling up a team of empathy defenders.
One of my crazier buddies decided this would be a good idea. We are level 14 now (But will sidekick you if we need to), and he has not leveled once without us telling him what a Baddddd idea this is

We are just having some fun with the team and him, so ... anytime you want, come join in the fun.

Hello and welcome to Justice. You'll find that that there's typically a lot going on, which you can often find in the channels Godpants referenced in the 3rd post.

We're also a very tolerant server for people outside the "norm", except when it comes to mental illness or defect that is incurable, such as a learning disorder caused by a malformed brain. However, we do give dispensation for those mental defects that are treatable or controllable, such as alcoholism, obesity, and drug addiction. Please see the raid leaders for dispensation or else you will find yourself subject to insult and attack without your knowledge by tolerant and honorable people.

(You may find Freedom or Virtue a better fit)

Once y'all get Fortitude and Recovery Aura, you'll think it's very nearly the best idea ever.

Hi Missy!!

The defender team isn't really too bad. We plow through things decently enough. There are usually three idiots... err I mean the three of us chose to use Empathy and then one or two others who play what they want.
Between all of us we generally have a lot of fun.

Let me ... bore you .... with the idea of this team.
Buddy says to me, our base should have the second level Rez Unit by now.
So I agree with him, yes we should
I let him know that we can get there one of two ways, we can farm for it. Something I generally don't enjoy setting up and doing. We could also make some Empaths and play them with the idea of taking and healing as much damage as possible.
Little did I know, he would like that idea.

So here we are, running into battle with only single slotted secondaries (so far ) and taking the mobs down.. slowly haha.

When we reach big boy status, we should be a pretty decent team able to handle bigger and more challenges as we level up.

I mean, it is normal to fight all grays right???
Nah, we usually end up fighting orange and reds with the occasional purple thrown in for fun.

I think that y'all should just find a tall building in Galaxy and take turns jumping off until you have one HP left, then healing each other. All night long!

Oddly enough... while we are in Steel that is what we are doing when we enter and exit missions.

I refuse to farm for it haha, so I limit my stupidity to actual play time haha.
