I'm in a quandry. What do I put in the "repot" text box? "This thread is completely pointless" seems about right, but that would invalidate a lot of other legitimate forum threads, as well. But this IS pointless AND meaningless...

"Post is devoid of meaningful communication", perhaps? I see it as akin to reporting a glitched blank/empty post: the poster wanted to say something, but circumstances prevented them from communicating the message effectively. They are always free to try again; meanwhile, the mods can clear away the deadwood.

Nice to know that mousing over the thread before actually entering it translates from Webdings (or whatever that font is) to something standard. Still think the OP is rather lacking, because it actually reads:

"The value of testing [translated from Webdings]... before publishing.[/close translation]"

Advice taken and reported with those exact words.

By the way, how do I quote someone such that I get a nested quote? Hitting "quote" simply gives me the lowest level of text in the post, skipping anything the post itself may have quoted.

You can copy-paste from the thread and insert (quote)(/quote) tags manually.

Alternately, you can select "Multiquote" on a few posts in a thread and then click "New Reply" to give people an idea of the preceding conversation.

"...before publishing" is in English for me as well. I'm using Firefox, could that be a reason?

Just tested, shows in webdings in IE but normal English in Firefox.

So, the OP called something out in a dingbats font and it displayed in that font? And this is supposed to be a problem?

Color me confused.

If Firefox does NOT show the symbols, then maybe the OP was using Firefox and thought that everyone else would also see it as a non-symbol font. I guess he's disappointed that the response is "what the heck?" rather than "LOL forums".

FWIW, I use Chrome and I saw "read" the dingbats just fine.

Just for the record, Google Chrome = webdings.

(I used to use Firefox mostly, but for some reason the Firefox on my main computer decided it couldn't keep me logged in to any forum I went to regularly anymore... Chrome has never had such problems, and it seems faster anyway.)

Although I can't confirm this with my own experience, I've been told and read that IE8 is actually good.

Well, I learned something from this thread. Firefox won't render webdings

Oddly enough my Firefox did. I see it all in normal English.

Webdings is a symbol font. If you saw it in readable English, then Firefox did NOT render it correctly. It substituted another font instead.
