g-a-y supergroup

What's offensive about it? It's mildly annoying that it's spelled "G-A-Y", sure, but that's only because the thread starter though the word gay was banned. It WAS on the old forums...

One of the original reasons for Pride was... well now I'm having to go and get all historical (from a UK perspective): being gay was illegal. You could get put in prison for it. It was also considered a mental illness. Then it was legalised. Hooray? Not really. There was still immense pressure from the police, the Christian Church (in general) and the authorities and gay men and women were persecuted. So in a pub, called The Stonewall, a group of gay men and lesbians decided that they would march against what they saw as unfair treatment by the police. This eventually developed into Pride.

It's arguable that a man and a woman kissing in the street or even just holding hands is 'heterosexual pride' - free from discrimination and all that. Think that discrimination is gone? Not a chance. As Damz has rightly said, there's always going to be some bigot looking for trouble.

Also Pride today is not exclusively for one gender preference. Families go, all sorts of groups including Gay Christians go, men who like men, women who like women, women who like men who like women etc.

To dismiss Pride as stated above is, in my mind, pretty much the same thing as the person standing in the bar who says: "I'm not racist, but..." It's the intolerance - the silent and often unconscious bigotry - that is still a problem for the gay community who are often seen either as butch lesbians or effeminate men. Not as people first.

Why not? Free country and all that.

I'm not quite sure what's being got at there. Are all gays, bisexuals, lesbians and transgendered people more interested in sex than the straight population? I've been pestered twice in 4 years for 'cyber' and not because I'm gay, but because my character was female.

Also there are far better ways (i.e. Gaydar) to pick up.

And that is a perfect example, joking or not, of why Pride is important. "Backs to the walls!" and other comments are really insulting. Even if they're meant in jest, they're not always received in the same way. Especially over the Internet.

And to the OP, I'm not aware of any LGBTU groups. Were you thinking in terms of the players themselves being LGBTU or the characters? There are a fair few roleplayed characters who are gay but, this being an MMO and also the wonderful World of the Internet, I'm not sure how many would be comfortable joinign a group. You could always set one up and I'd be happy to join (Defiant or Union). Call it 'Triangle' or something similar and that should go over the majority of straight folks's heads, if that's what was desired.

The irony is that you were called a troll and an outcast by someone who gives their location as Texas. Last I checked that was in the US and the poster has made reference to their SGs/channels on the US servers - so this has absolutely nothing to do with the NA/EU merger.

So no need to blame those pesky Europeans.

I think he was implying that he's from the Euro-Side. I appreciate it, but it is all I've called him, and I think I'm only one of a few NA users to comment on him. The Rest have for the most part been EU users. So that's the real amusement of it all.

You werent being attacked at all, just disagreed with because: -

a) You cant read

b) You are not even sure what you said to begin with

and

c) I get the impression from your words that you probably just dont want any discussion regarding gay matters at all.

It is not a thread about sex, otherwise a lot of us would have stopped it anyway. Dont try to mislead people into thinking it is about something it is not, then cry indignant just because most of the others here have the intelligence to know you are wrong and have told you so in what is actually a calm dignified manner.

I'm aware it's a discussion forum - and I am reading other threads. Unfortunately, there are so many of them, I'm getting quite lost.

It's not the discussion I have a problem with, it's the debate and attacking Cherokee for his/her opinion. In my experience, threads like these always turn into arguments - and often times for decent reasons. But this one looks like a bunch of people attacking one another for the slightest thing. If anyone had said anything derogatory, I'd understand - be upset, but understand. But no one has and that sort of makes this whole thing rather silly.
