Why do so many people be rude?

The french and the German servers have been down for days, why are so many people rude to the players who come here to play a little bit? We'd do the same. Welcome them and make some friends

On behalf of the union/defiant players who have been rude or offensive in any way i appologise for them. A lot of them will be too proud/egocentric to admit they are in the wrong but please dont think that we are all like that, some of us are very nice people indeed.

I hope that every single one of them has been petitioned and been dealt with.

I couldnt agree more, I team with some of them today and although half the team had to chat through an intepreter it was a fun team with something else to chat about rather than the usual "so whens CO coming out"

I should add though that teaming and protest spamming atlas broadcast are two very different things. Then again I cant blame them for being upset at their server being down for so long...

It is bad. Last night someone was speaking in French on broadcast in Atlas. Someone said 'English only in broadcast' I asked why and got no reply. I checked if the French player was still online and couldn't find him. Utter disgrace IMO. He wasn't spamming it, so was fine. And with them 2 servers down it was acceptable for them to broadcast in the own language.

Why apologise for a bunch of brainless bigots? It's not the fault of everyone else that there's a few morons on the servers who are unable to get over themselves. Let them be shown for what they are, don't apologise for them; you did no wrong.

@Op. It's unfortunate that there are such people in the world, but trust me when I say that they ARE a minority. Please, just report them and put them on ignore. The rest of us will chat to you quite happily.

I can just imagine the forums if Union and Defiant was down for the length of time the german and french was down, add on top the fact that I15 has just been released.

For all you french and German super heroes/villians using the english servers I welcome you, and just try to ignore the morons who feel they have more rights than you and that they own the server.

I think its disgusting the way some players have been treated for simply speaking their own language. Espically since zunkruft and vigilance are/were down.

They pay for the game aswell, they have the right to play on any server they choose!

I know we invade their servers when union and defiant go down so it woeks both ways.

Yes - although surely there'd probably be the odd idiot on the French and German servers who would let their xenophobia show itself.

You get idiots everywhere - with so many people on Union/Defiant (especially around Atlas) there's just more chance of meeting the 1 in 20 who must have been dropped on their head at an early age...

Likewise, you get decent people everywhere - ignore/report the idiots and team again with the friendly people. Just as you would if you met them on Vigilance or Zukunft...

I spent a little time in Atlas Park yesterday, and while my french speaking is utterly attrocious, my comprehension is so-so.

While I was there, several French players began discussing the situation and the upcoming downtime (as it was), in French, on Broadcast.

I politely requested ("would the French speakers mind terribly...") that they revert to English, team, /tells or a private channel, since public channels are, under the EULA, server-language specific, and while none of them acknowledged my request, they did cease broadcasting in French.

It was at that point that some thoroughly objectionable individual decided to go into an anti-French rant. One sentence, on broadcast, that was simply rude, offensive, laden with swearwords (modified to get round the profanity filter - obviously some kid who doesn't know you can turn it OFF). I promptly petitioned said individual, as such behavious is utterly unacceptable as far as I'm concerned.

So, in keeping with this thread - to all displaced French and German players, thank you for coming to the English-speaking servers and making our lives that little bit richer. On behalf of those people who were happy for you to come over, I apologise for the treatment you received from some bigotted, ignorant fools. While I have to admit that I would be less than pleased to see broadcast spamming in protest, I certainly understand your frustrations.

Be interesting to get GM confirmation on this point as the circumstances are unusual.

I imagine that the EULA dictates that server-language is used as the GMs are language-based and can't be expected to moderate in languages that they don't understand.

So the EULA stops someone going onto a server and unleashing a torrent of swearing in Russian or Portugeuse or whatever. Or rather - it means that they can be reprimanded for breach of EULA if they do.

However with the French/German servers unavailable I'd hope that the French/German GMs are available on Union/Defiant and so moderation/assistance in French and German should be available on those servers.

Under these circumstances, I'd hope that the GMs were allowing the French/German to use broadcast without fear of reprimand.

Not everyone uses the forums. So even if new French/German private channels are created, broadcast may be the easiest way to alert players to its existence.

Yep, I'd agree with JD in these special circumstances. The EULA is a broad cover-all to stop the sort of abuse he mentions, but in special circumstances like the last 2 days I'd assume the support staff also moved and the EULA wouldn't hold for those 2 languages.

Spirit of the EULA rather than the letter.

Certainly there was French LFT broadcasts in Atlas on Monday night when I was between MA missions, which seemed perfectly reasonable to me.

I would imagine that if the foreign players were playing instead of spamming in atlas with groups of protesting emotes then their presence would be made more welcome.
If your server is down, then by all means if your that addicted that you want to play from level 1 to whatever just to delete the toon a few days later, then do it with some respect for the players of the server that is still up.

You asked why are people rude, maybe your should be asking yourself what am I doing to warrant a rude response?

Oh, no argument from me on your reasoning, JD. In fact it didn't bother me in the slightest. The point is that despite there being extenuating circumstances, the letter of the EULA does say that the public access channels on a server should be in that server's language only.

My request was at least as much to prevent the ignorant bigotry as it was to try and enforce the EULA - the bigots actually have a case for telling them to "shut up", whereas the French and German players only had extenuating circumstances on their behalf.

I was chating briefly to Mother's Love in Atlas Plaza while the French and German players were there. I mentoned that it was nice to see a crowd in Atlas for a change that did not involve a cossie comp. Everyone else seems to just lurk in the AE building these days.

Playing all those games is not good for you you know. You need to get out more into the real world of Paragon City.

Seriously, given the situation I think it was only fair to expect them to gome to our servers and its s shame that a small minority of players could not have been more accepting of them.

I just read this thread and want to say "thanks" for all germans visiting union/defiant the past days. I didn't have time to play this time, but I did long ago, when character slots couldn't be bought and found some really nice players.

Keep on and be welcome on Zukunft whenever you want to (I have experienced teams completely switching to english because of one foreign player).

I dont think people are so rude if you try speach english. Theres no server at all with my language and I use english what I can. I'll do my best. Sometimes I just forget something. Theres no difference with v or w and c or s letters in my language. So if I dont remember, I'll make a quess (use w, english people uses w all the time) And those strange little words are sometimes really pain on my... well... in on un an whatewer.

I speach my language with my friends, but sometimes accidentally send somethin in wrong channel. That happens. Not big deal. I'll sent apologies and we are all happy.

So my english is horribly, but I do my best and use it, because its rule of english servers. If even I can learn it, anybody can. Theres 23 official (and more) languages in EU. So if we all uses our own languages, then we cannot understand anything at all.

See that ^^ (Shadowe and JD I mean) is the difference between dealing with a genuine and intelligent request, than just spewing bile and hatred because some version of how people think *their* game should be has been rudely interrupted *rolls eyes*.

And thats the point, rather than acting like a normal person and ascertaining the root of a problem and just discussing it and moving on, some people decide to take it upon themselves to shove their smallminded opinions on others. The thing that makes me laugh more is the attitude that some people have that this is *their* game, its not, you pay for time in a public domain where other people also have paid for their deserved time. But then I guess expecting civility off people with the social skills of a coffee table is a lot to ask.

Thankfully though in my tenure here the people who make this game great far far outweigh the ones that bring the rep down, as FFM correctly stated it *is* a minority.

I hope these few days havn't sullied anyone's view of the community as a whole, just hang around Damz for a while and
