What defender makes you jump for joy when they join your TF.

Looking for
Primary / Secondary / Epic
and reasons why you love that they are on your side...

Basically whats the most desired Defender to a PvE team / TF / Trial...

Discuss...

The one that uses their primary.

Jump for joy?

Any defender that knows how to use their primary and even better if they also have noticed this thing called "secondary powerset" and use that one as well.

EDIT: To add, some of the sets I particularly like.
Dark Miasma: It just has so much in it. A well played Dark can reduce the incoming damage by near 100% and heal all that comes through.
Cold: It's all-round a good set.
Sonic: Who does not like more resistance, mez protection and a -res aura?

Just off the top of my head. For secondaries probably archery (for RoA) or sonic for further -res but I'm not too exigant about that side.

I think it depends a lot on the other ATs and combos in the team. Overall, I like Sonic, Cold and Rad. Used to giggle everytime I had a FF on the team but Cold kinda outshines it atm.

@False Fiction - Virtue / Defiant

Current projects - [Glaciologist - Ill/Cold Troller] [Cloudshaper - Storm/Dark Def] [Harald Wartooth - Elec/Psi Domi]

Cold, Dark or Rad really......... but I love the debuffs. Secondary I love seeing Sonic, Dark and Rad.

But the sets mean nothing if the person cant play. I don't jump for joy from reading someones powers, maybe I'm jaded

The one with a competent player in control.
As for the most desired powersets... that depends a lot on the combat level and the rest of the team. In most cases kinetic and rad primaries fit in quite well, but every powerset has the potential to do a lot for the team and likewise the potential for disappointment when the player does not deliver nearly as much as I had expected... with the notable exception of Storm Summoning which has the potential for pure disaster on top of that.

I know there are preferences to defenders to ensure pace. When people pick a favourite or two, to me they give away their most favourable type of team dynamic because different types of defenders will have different preferences to different team dynamics without IO set builds coming into it. I think Cold Domination allows more freedom than most sets.

Another vote for cold then. My favorite defender to join a tf team.

Cold or Sonic both make me jump in joy.

FF, dark & Kin make me smile.

Emp makes me shake my head in disappointment.

My first toon was an empath and I remade her a while back but I hardly play her at all. What ruined empaths was allowing virtually every other powerset combination in the game a self heal and mez protection.

What ruins empaths is some peoples perception of it because they can't play to within a empaths limitations and get the job done in later levels. In the early levels the spamming of heals becomes the doctrine somehow and not many work together at being within making the other empath powers and the necessity of, the only thing they need.

Unlike sets that offer bubbles, fort can usually be applied to only 3, Heal Aura isn't a great Heal and with no one doing -dam or anyone else offering buffage/debuffage/mezz protection can't necessarily heal out the aoe damage over time against the team. This can mean that ideally the maximum amount of people that are in a position to recieve damage would sometimes be better lowered, ie 1 person. Everyone else attacking the team with only 1 person in a position of being able of getting hit is sometimes the most ideal.

In terms of survivability an empath should be helped to be made capable of getting a team thru the game rather than expected to heal/time any level of damage to any amount of characters over any given area.

In terms of survivability, I would even consider a Trick Archer is theoretically potentially good enough for a Firetank tank tanking the entire circle at once for ages if need be. "How?" is the question everyone should imo work out the answer.

I have been working on my Emp and I like to think that out of all of my toons this is the one that I feel most accomplished at using, can only hope that my team mates to be will think the same.

Although i am now thinking that another Def Roll would be more popular in a team, nothing makes you fell better than hearing when you join a new team "w00t ! a "?" Defender!"

I am used to the "?" being Emp, do you all think that empaths are being overtaken by other sets??

Whan I started playing you couldn't move for empaths, now you hardly see any. To be honest I'm thinking of deleting mine again, not because I think there's anything wrong with the power set - I simply don't enjoy playing defenders these days.

Would be nice if empaths could heal through walls and around corners and at enormous distances though - that's what most teams seem to expect

I have 5 Sets of Doctored wound in my Heal powers,

Healing Aura
Heal Other
Adsorb Pain
Health
Siphon Life
...

Have considered dropping 1 DW from each of the 1st 3 to take a Range IO.

Don't know how beneficial it would be tho.
Maybe something that I will consider when creating a Cold Defender looks to be on the cards.

We should look at whats good by asking people if they could only have 2 of the same buff support powersets in a team to cover the entire game (ie 2 cold) for any character they may play what 2 would be best? Emps shouldn't be bottom.

Thats partly by what I mean by people not playing to the empaths limitations.

I wouldn't of put doctored wounds in health and siphon life. RA and AB would possibly have them whilst Siphon Life goes for another set with bonuses of other figures and health, well health would otomh probably offer +end at best. I used to have range in AB and HO on a toon with SS due to people being that spread.

Empaths with heal aura on auto and using no other powers are the bestest!

Don't really care much who plays what, as long as the player is good and not a total jackass i'm fine with it.

Aye, my Warshade squees with joy if a Forcefield Defender joins the team. Mmmm. Insanely stacked defenses. I'll just float up here and aggro the map.

I'll also squee for Cold defenders. Shields + evil debuffs. Mmmm. I'm considering making one myself because they look such fun.

My least favourite defender on my WS is a Kin oddly enough. I just don't have too much use for them. Speed Boost on my WS is a bit too much for me (most laggy character + laggy laptop + high speed != fun) and I'm perfectly capable of buffing my own damage and recovering my own End thank you

Cold defenders are insanely fun, I sometimes get too much into debuffing and forget Frostwork on anyone but the tank, but damn its fun. See storm has Freezing Rain right enough, but no Heatloss to go with it. I know storm came first, but it took several issues for them to correct that glaring omission
