Booster Packs not seperate add on?
I think that you are misreading it.
Instead of designing a small pack of extras to go with the new box they're effectively doing a voucher that allows the purchaser to choose one of the existing booster packs for free.
So both boosters will be available to buy individually by any subscriber, but people buying the MA edition box get one of them for free.

You do have to wonder though, will we still get the free booster pack if we get the Architect edition as a download? Or is it just in the box that we're not getting?

Another thing that only the yanks get, just like actual contact from the Devs, closed Beta invites, etc...
(Yeah, we're getting closed betas now, but for the first time ever since launch woop de doo )
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

WHY WON'T YOU LOVE US!!
Oh wait, I don't actually care too much if some US developers don't have the time to answer questions which they've probably already addressed on the US servers anyway.

Yes. The digital version grants the free booster as well.

Excellent, good to know.....now, if we can just get a boxed edition over here and also some advertising.....in fact there's a new film coing out called Super Capers, I just linked to it on the Comic Book forum, that would be a perfect tie in for CoH!! (hint hint hint!!!)

If we get the digital download then we already have the Architect edition as the updater will update us to i14 anyway.
So I must be missing something... aside from getting the month playtime of course.

No, the download edition we get is aimed at new players, instead of a boxed edition in the shops. ew players can buy the game from NC, download it and also get the code for the booster pack free as well.
At least, that's how I'm understanding it?
We built this city on Rock and Roll!

Taking a rough guess, it will work like the Mac "box" that was released recently.
So, we go onto PlayNC and buy the code for "The CoX: Architect Edition" game and apply that as an upgrade to our existing accounts. That gives us a free month of game time. In addition we will be given a code as part of buying that code that allows us to access one of the booster packs.

We've had closed beta invites since at least I6 - they just gave access to the US servers for the beta period so you could access the US test server.

Correction, we've had ONE incidence of EU players being invited to the EU beta, though those players did access the US server. That's not what's going to happen this time, as part of the test is the cross-continental transfer of arcs.

So in other words, they are yet again relying on people searching the internet for interesting things to download rather than having nice shiny boxes in nice shiny stands in major game shops for the casual walk past buyer to go "oooooo that looks fun" the way I did. Ive only ever gone on a gaming web site to look at a link off this forum. I buy games magazines and SFX quite regularly and wouldn't have purchased this game if I hadn't seen the box. To be honest, I wouldn't know the game existed even now if I relied on ads and articles.
The best online game out there and they miss the opportunity yet again to revitalise the EU market. Even the people in my local Game shop didn't know this game exists. They looked at me blankly when I mentioned it the other day. No wonder some people think we in the EU are treated like poor relations.

You are still failing to grasp that they could print as many nice shiny boxes as they want but there is nothing they can do to make retailers put them on the shelves.
I really should do something about this signature.
Got to agree with enforcer i think the idea of not releasing a boxed set EU side is a terrible idea i think there seriously underestimating the draw of a actual physical box on the shelf even to me some one who already has the game the idea of going and getting a box is far more appealing than just downloading the thing from the web.
there's just something having it in your hands that's better than and virtual content
And its not as if a download is that easy an option. It takes many hours to download a file as big as CoX even if you are really panting for it. I downloaded LOTR and WOW at seperate times and it took about 2 days for each. Considering they were on my hard drive for less than a day for WOW and an hour for LOTR I wouldn't be happy taking that long to download anything again.

Yes there is, it's called advertising it.
A sudden rush of adverts, be it online, in magazines, before movies, on tv, free trials on magazines, etc will get people looking for it.
After selling games for 10 years, believe me when I say, if a lot of people come in asking for something, the staff in the shops do tell their respective head offices and that gets things on the shelves, even in a limited amount. Good sales in the shops then get more into the shops.
Honestly, I've seen this happen numerous times! I've personally rang head office myself and they got the stock in and it sold! This has happened with CD's, DVD's, books and games. I can tell you about movies like Trekkies, the documentary about Star Trek fans, the company I used to work for wasn't going to stock it aat all, I rang head office after people asked about it, as did several other branches and it got stocked....and immediately sold out as the fans ad seen it reviewed in the latest issue of Star Trek magazine and online!
The same can happen for CoH, they just seem to not want to do this. I agree Game and Gamestation aren't going to stock a game no one has ever asked for, why should they. What NC need to do is get people asking for it!

Oh I agree, but they also can't stock what they can't GET. Anyway, if they're insistent on the digital download method, then they should at least be talking to the people at Steam as a distribution channel. At least then more people would become aware of the game!

steam would be a great idea as would some form of torrent
But I'm still hopeful some one in marketing (or whoever made the no box decision) will have a change of hart and at least do some kind of limited release.
According to this , it appears that you only get the booster packs if you buy the new I14 box set , which we cannot buy here anyway.
Does anyone know if they will be available separately at all?
