Ditto, Its going to be (If all our predictions eventually come to pass) very indicative of just how much NC West values the EU.playerbase regarding how much effort they put into any potential transfers and keeping us as subscribers.
If I lose everything on the EU servers, I'm off. No regrets. I will buy DCUO and be happy.
What really hurts is that Ghostraptor was quite literally giddy about the future of this game, teasing us about what's to come. Now his job, or at least the jobs of his co-workers, are in peril.

Which is why I think something like my prediction is more likely.
It'll cost them a bit of money to do such a marger BUT, they'll lose less people that if they just cut us all off and made us start fresh. I know that I for one probably would accept a transfer (depending on names), but if I LOST my chars and vet rewards etc, I'd just go.

Ending up on another server than my mates would make me unhappy. Losing my names would make me unhappy. Losing my SG would make me even more unhappy. But none of those things would make me quit the game.
Making me start from scratch on a new account would, however. If I have to spend time starting all over again, it'll be on another game.
Edit: Hmm, I'm slow. In the time that it took for me to type this post, about 10 others did it faster

I'll also add that, if they DID cut us off like that, it'd also be the last NCSoft game I'd ever buy, too!

TR wasn't as well established tho. It was less than a year old.
The CoX EU fraternity is considerably wider reaching (and I believe bigger.) They have more to lose - and so does NC Soft by losing that revenue.

Damage control, that's what. NC West are clearly cutting their losses to protect their core business. This is a sensible thing to do, no matter how unfortunate it may be for employees in the EU operation.
Here's what I think may happen in the coming months.
With only a couple of staff left at NC Brighton, this is clearly an unsustainable number to maintain EU servers for CoH. Therefore, a database move is highly likely.
We will not be given a choice of where we go, they will just transfer us wholesale to a couple of the emptier US servers. The 4 EU servers will go completely.
We MIGHT then be granted free server transfer tokens, so that we can move our chars to servers of ours choice within the US, but this is by no means a given.
Localised language support will be discontinued.
No consideration will be given to duplicate character names or global names. We will just be given rename tokens as a cure all.
Some people will decide to leave over losing names, others will leave over losing localised language support. NC West will accept this as part of the loss cutting operation.
The above, whilst harsh to us EU players, is likely the cheapest route for NC to take because clearly, the EU market has become unsustainable. NC West are a profit making company, and they will do what they must to protect their profits. If we're a drain on that, we go bye bye.

Possibly dumb asking this question, as all this is based on pure speculation...
Why haven't you considered moving the 4 servers (physically or just data-wise) to the US list/server hosting?
Surely all that we know would definitely need to change would be the possibility of global names and channels, as characters would still exist on th esame logical server... so slightly harder to do but slightly less chance of hacking off your non-US userbase.
Serious question, as I may be missing something obvious (data protection laws maybe).

Actually, I did consider that but dismissed it due to cost. Physically moving the servers to the US would cost 10's of 1000's. Adding 4 more servers to their cluster would cost 10's of 1000's. Copying us all to their existing server network? All that costs is the wages for the guy writing the db script, and he already gets paid that anyway.

Yeah, but that was a game that never really got established and was closed done in its entirety.
Not really comparable to what might be on the cards for CoX EU.

Well said.
I guess with DCUO and CO imminent, it's not as tho the CoX community doesn't have somebody waiting with open servers and legs for this community to come running. So I'd suspect (and hope) that NC would be cognisant of that and do what it could to keep the majority of the EU community on board - especially considering they're likely to experience a dip in numbers when those games do come online anyhow, even if purely for curiosity's sake.

If they do do something like this then I'd be seriously wondering if NC were doing this partly to try forcing people into Aion to ensure it's a success in the West.
