I think the thing is, some people still have a very limited view of the comic and hero genre, namely that it's all "spandex and powerz" (and spandex is, as we know, a privilege, not a right.)

Oh i know they exist in minor forms in game (Throwing knives are the Natural power you get when you make a character and actually look pretty cool too) but one or two epic picks does not a set make!

The next power the Devs introduce certainly needs to be aimed at range-based toons I feel.

It's not very heroic to defeat a thug with a baseball bat by using a rocket launcher. Any idiot could do that.

I don't recall anyone ever saying that. The only argument I recall regarding pistols and range is in regard to pistols as a scrapper set - it would be stupid because limiting a pistol to 7 foot range would be stupid.
There have been several hints that Pistols will be the next new set for blasters, defenders and corruptors.
I really should do something about this signature.
It would be nice if they were to do a themed set across all the ATs (i know shed garage a 5 bedroom house load of work) of course they would need to find a theme that could be used across all the ATs that hasn't been covered already.

It's that other than Assault Rifle, they're all melee weapons! Since when did we use them anymore with any regularity? Where's my oversized, compensating for something, Rocket Pods / Rocket Launcher / Harkonnen set?
Or my ray gun / crazy tech device set? It freezes, it heats, it spews acid, it reverses gravity and dislocates them from reality! Truly a weapon of kings.
Or a throwing weapons set? Bolas, knives, boomerangs, nets, grenades, shurikens, javelins and chakram hooo!
And if you say pistols are too short range for the setting, it's worth pointing out that the normal blasts have a range of 80ft which is well within effective range and this isn't even counting in the fact that gun slinging heroes are likely using guns that are better than average.
If we're getting realistic then it's more that rifles and bows have a ridiculously short range in the game!

Those sets do exist. All on Red side though. You got MM's with rayguns and dual pistols. Then you got the Veats Using either the Mace which shoots rays and can be used to bash things or the spider backpack with tons of fun zaps. Of course there is a shattering of AR's and SMG's to.
I agree that it would be lovely to have some sets like that on blue side as well.
Edit: About Dual Pistols for a ranged set.
You could see it as a combination of a scrapper/blaster. Short range but with GunFu moves for shorter range. So no things as grenades, sniper or flamethrower. But buffalooning (bashing), pointblank shooting, rapidly spinning around spraying bullets and that sort of stuff. Sounds like a fun set to me.

It might not be a real "new" set, but didn't controllers recently-ish get the plant set? I don't think that was there when I last played.
As for the thread, I never thought "fantasy wannabe" was the direction of CoH when I heard of the new dual blades and weapons customization. I thought "Whoa, cool!" resubscribed and repeated the same sentiment shortly after trying it out. I think it was a great step towards an even more diverse CoH

[/ QUOTE ]However anti-heroes have been around alot longer than the 90s. Clint Eastwood made a career from playing anti-heroes. The gritty re-invention of alot of comicbook characters that occurred in the late 80s only brought it to the fore.
