Speculation: What is Coming?

possibly gaining extra players from the US servers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why would any US players ever choose to play in the EU?!
In MMOs, players tend to consentrate on the more populated servers, and in this case the EU servers would seem even more deserted to US players since thier peak time falls in the dead of night in the EU.
Add into that the effect of transatlantic lag on performance.
[/ QUOTE ]
I said possibly (although you're probably right we would lose players to the more populated servers). I was thinking more about how some players would not want a server merge due to potentially losing their toons name.
[ QUOTE ]
And, ironic, i play with less lag on the US then currently on the EU (rubberbanding ftw).
[/ QUOTE ]
Very probably. It depends where in Europe you are. The EU servers aren't located in your house. The EU servers are located in Germany. Players in the US would experience significantly more lag connecting to Germany than you or I would connecting to a server in the US.
[ QUOTE ]
many dont even know the exsistence of the EU servers
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree that there are a quite number of EU players playing in the US, but that is because they prefer to play there, I doubt many are unaware of the existance of the EU servers (I've been on the US boards, they all know the EU servers exist), and I doubt they would choose to come to the EU, even with a free transfer.
I really should do something about this signature.
But then what? Linger around in a already lowered population server, only seeing numbers drop due people continue to leave for whatever reason? Advertise for what? Showing new peeps a deserted atlas or galaxy, they want to be 'one of them', not 'hopefully not the only one'.
Is the only 'drawback' of a servermerge a character name? Then what would u do if they decide to merge union/defiant together? same story, different server.
EU personal can continue doing their job, only the physical location and login-procedures would be unified, not the players itself. But the opened extra oppertunities would be massive, like the PvP chances would work on a mass populated server, not on a server where maybe a handfull of people are left to play some PvP.
Yes, i will refer to WoW, they did their PvP battlegrounds serverless. You fight people of completly other servers, so you are not depending on your own servers population but the entire continent of the game. Why fight the people on defiant over and over, if there are 10000+ people oversea waiting to fight you, but you cant?
As for the 'lag', i also play Cabal and PW, both by gamemasters hosted in Germany. With a ping of 25-50 (even in 125vs125 battles it wont go beyond 100) i wonder what is so different about the EU servers that make them so laggy.

Because there is proven that there are thousands eu players now on the us servers. Who started out wrong by mistake or may want to go back but can't because of losing vet rewards.
Aside of that.. the english EU servers aren't that empty compaired to the normal small populated US servers... And we are known as having a better community.
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Indeed. So 6 people move from the US to the EU, and 600 move in the other direction.
Such a merge would kill all the EU servers stone dead. If there is going to be any kind of EU-US merger it would mean simple closure for the EU servers. Wouldn't really be a problem for the English speeking players though, just NCSoft employees, the French and the Germans.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thing is though people are already paying to move to the US servers anyway, the biggest problem with this game was they kept them seperate servers in the first place.
If the EU servers went with the same list as american ones, at very least its going to generate more funds for future updates from the paid transfers.
Making the choice difficult isnt really helping anyone the vet reward vs more population argument because if it bothers people that much there likely to move anyway, just like we have seen recently.
Regarding power customisation, in the current engine it was said it was impossible, or very difficult to do at very least, but on my friends american version of the game he has colour change already via mods.
He has green energy blasts etc that he said he found somewhere on the net, thing is, surely if an illegal mod site can do it the original game developers can?
Im willing to bet that rogue comes around i15/i16 though, these devs dont heavily hint like that in any interview unless they are definately sure its been worked on.
Graphics changes we had a few minor ones in i12, the bloom and the water changes and those had a lot of problems already, im thinking if they do a full graphics change its going to take a very long time, and most likely will be a paid expansion seen as when the game changed companies they stated 'we are looking into more paid content'. I think you can almost guarantee it, plus its extra advertising for the game on the store shelves now DC Universe and Champions Online is coming.
If they didnt have a shiny new box on the shelf the game will just look outdated compared to the others and wont hold much longer in the market but i really dont think anything will be done before there expected release date except i13 and i hate to say it, but with way its sounding that could fully wipe out the euro servers for at least a couple of months until people realise that sony fail at making mmorpg's

Because his is a slimy hack that only HE can see, everyone else sees the proper colours.
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And it's also pretty likely that he can ONLY see one different colour change. i.e. He can have red ice blasts, on everyone who has ice blasts.
Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.
Posts are OOC unless noted to be IC, or in an IC thread.
oh noes, don't mention the coloured ice thing; it was decided here some time ago by someone who knows that all ice is green...or blue...or white - I can't quite remember - but ALL ice this that colour (whatever it was) and cannot possibly be any other.
Ahem.
I hope when they eventually do give us power customisation (and if it takes an engine rewrite to do it, I can wait), they don't think this lame 'only you can see it' solution will fly. If I make Red Ice Dude, I want everyone to see that my ice is red! (dammit, I mentioned coloured ice again )
i think that the US players want the same thing, they can't play on the EU server so they are stuck there, just speculating here...

I missed that line. That is soooooooooo true. As the kids of today say, QFT
As per what I read in US forums, don't expect "The Coming Storm" for I15, it's already here, even before I13 comes live there's certainly quite a storm going on there

Hmmm...the Cimerorans maybe? But unlikely.
The one overriding thing that is causing hell over the server merge(s) arguement is the names issue. There is also things about gmae lore that has been made up on certain servers, and will then have to deal with other stuff from another server and all that jazz...
But names, to the people that create characters they enjoy to play, are important. I know that I would be unbelievably hacked off if there was a server merge and my characters names got generic'ed. *Unbelievably* hacked off. Even if the person who kept there name had been 'first' or whatnot, why should that matter?
It helps personally that I try and come up with orginal and fairly diverse names anyway, so I think only three of mine would possibly be in danger. But thats the thing, you don't know.
Now, people say this is just a bee in the bonnet of the Roleplayers. Its not. Its relaly not. Last thread that discussed this, a *lot* of non-RPers said, hoi, hang on, we *like* the names we picked. Blow that for a game of soldiers...
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Thing is they never said a merger was impossible just that they have no intention of doing it. All those people holding your breaths waiting for it, might be dead before it happens.

losing the one cape limit (which they already have with wedding pack) but make it more official.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm probably being dumb but: What do you mean "one cape" limit? You can have different capes on different costume slots now.
Or do you mean say, raincoat and wings.....? Though I cant imagine why you'd want it...?
AB
According to previously provided information it has not been possible for the graphics engine to support more than one 'dangly mesh' at a time (that's capes, to you and me) on an individual character. It is this restriction that has prevented things like animated hair, because the engine could not allow a character with animated hair to also wear a cape. Or a Trenchcoat. Or... any of the other options that use that graphics technology.
However, the wedding pack proved that it is possible. Some of us are hoping that this advance in the graphics code will allow for more flexibility on costume options.

I'm hoping for the Eu and US servers to all be accessable from the same list and that the do away with the unneeded divide. I'm hoping for 2 reasons,
1. I'm running out of slots and it would save me buying more.
2. It'd give me a laugh thinking of all the people who've left for the US servers and lost their vet awards

I must admit this would bring a smile to my face
What I would like to see, in order of desirability for me:
0- Merging ALL the servers in a server-less environment, with everybody keeping their names (one is allowed to dream, after all this is a pure speculation thread). This in fact was hinted as a possibility some time ago when the server transfer microtransaction was included.
1- Going rogue / evildoer turns good - or alternatively a reputation system that allows you to choose and develop your way.
2- Apartments (aka. personal bases)
3- New generic tilesets for missions (pretty pretty please)
4- New enemy factions
5- New zones. If trans-faction, even better.
6- Power customization
7- Continuous environement (aka. the fall of the war walls)
8- CoH/CoV Markets merge (maybe with some missions that lead you to discover that Wentworths actually runs the Black Market, wouldn't that be cool?)
9- Cimeroran Sybil costume for my heroines (yummy!)
I am ready to start marking the checkboxes
Just to get us off that server-merger, thread-wrecking line of thought:
The coming storm is probably a Nictus invasion of some sort, or perhaps we'll see those living cloud aliens again, not the rularuu, but the other ones I keep forgetting the name of that pop's out in a few bugged missions. Wouldn't mind seeing some other "real" alien pop out with a completely different, really scary behaviour.
All baddies being scaled to your level ergo "removing" Lk/Sk from the game would be... interesting (and kill off any PLing, don't know if I like or hate the idea!)
Gfx engine update, baddies retexturing (like the rikti one they did) more zone revamps (can you say Boomtown, DA etc?)
Didn't really notice how they snuck in the "insects" aura, but like the idea btw.
Power changes would sure shake up the game, but too dangerous judging from the debate around the coming pvp changes.
My guess is they're gonna focus quite a lot on that mission editor hoping the community will keep the game alive and kicking, maybe even eventually add a map designer, but apart from desperately wanting the stupid badges that will come with it I won't bother until I can totally design maps, texture them and all. (Loved doing quake maps, even had an "exact" replica of my old school in CS, was awesome)
Also the old event idea of a big football we can "kick" around is bound to be realized!
ED being reversed? ok, that was a bit silly I guess!
Place a flyer in the base and you can actually fly it?
Being able to read the comics on the walls, use the weapons, watch telly, in-game radio, in-game voice chat that sucks badly, revamped user interface that will drive ppl mad (honestly, this game still has the best I've seen apart from the total lack of actual raids and a raid system), skinnable UI, in-game forum system (rofl) and FAQs, secret identity, more villain side GMs and zones, more focus on faction-vs-faction fighting/rewards(CoX version of RvR?), space station, lunar base, underwater base, CoX-going-fantasy, perma-deaths-start-at-lvl1-again(lmao), pvp-steal-all-the-inf fighting(rotfl), City vault actually going live (=Stats on the web) and last but not least...
...imagine it...
...waaaiiit...
...waaaiiit for it...
...oh, yes...
...Cathedral of Pain going live, actually working, no exploits, with a real raid system being introduced causing half the world to whine about being forced to protect their precious bases while the smurfs laugh madly while performing dozens of raids on all the other puny SGs (oh, wait, they wouldn't be able to complete the CoP, lol)
Oh, yes, that must be it, the one thing that "was impossible" must be CoP. (Unless it's x-rated cossies and emotes)
...and I'd also love to see actual rendered cut-scenes with voice-overs or at least have them "interuptable", not to mention that old bugged RSF scientist/hossie fixed.
Honestly, how hard can it be to actually fix a rather major bug in the only SF that's worth repeating repeatedly once you're 50? WOuld be (cencored) awesome to get a dev response on that one before we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of that bug!

I'm against V/Os mostly, if only that downloading a chunky sound file for every single cut scene and incident is going to make patch time seem like an eternity
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

Not with modern compression techniques! You can easily fit an hour or so of good quality conversation into 15 or so meg these days. Barely enough to even notice, these days...
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I think an unified server list would allow more possibilities to the game, such as designating Official RP and Official PvP servers as opposed to the existing Unofficial ones with their particular rules, dunno if even a particular PvP server could be PvP in all zones or something like that. It would also allow possibilities for more language servers, such as Spanish for the Latin American and Spanish Community who wishes to move there (and take a few of us off the ever-translating hook, sorry, but sometimes it is hard) and keep the French including french speaking canadians, keep the German one and maybe even more languages.
If after doing so, some servers become empty, it would be a simple matter of evaluating a controlled migration to specific servers to strenghten them.
Of course, this is all theory, no idea how convenient it would be, if the consequences would be good or bad or even if it can be implemented, just looks good "a priori".-
