jeeeesus i leave my thread for a few seconds and hundreds of hate replys come rolling in, what is it with you people, and yes it was for comedy value but since none of you thought to ask and just rip me to shreds you didnt know that, if anyone is rude around here its you guys, as you can see im rather new to this forum and this is the first forum ive ever been on, so as u can imagine im not up to scratch with this un written code of conduct in threds, im sure in the past when you first started up we all posted stupid threds and regret them later for it but it doesnt help when ones who have been on this forum for a much longer time make personal attacks on my maturity and playing time if you have a problem with my posts send me a private message giving me a few pointers and why my thred might be a little offending to people, i mean how else are you supose to learn! granted ive posted a few stupid and perhaps rude posts but im still getting to grips with the community and whats sociably acseptable and what is not, so please i ask you be a bit more tollerent towards first time posters?

and yes there maybe some spelling mistakes but thats only coz im at work and have to type fast to not get caught by the boss

Well said; the forums do seem to be suffering from an excess of bile at the moment.

Nice going guys.

Edited to remove hyperbole.

TBH I'd have to disagree on this one; despite Sindrone talking about "hundreds of hate replys" after "a few seconds", what actually happened was he made a not-well phrased question/demand without smileys, on a Friday afternoon, then went away until Monday morning.

At which time he found 2 or 3 "demands aren't nice" posts, and several pages of irreverent comments, most of which weren't directed at him.

Doesn't seem like such a harsh treatment to me.

I dunno Standoff, there seems to be a general feeling of jumping down people's throats on here at the moment from a few posters (not aimed at you, I thought your post was funny and appropriate 'ask a silly question' response).

Yes the OP was a bit of a daft question, and the humour possibly wasn't as obvious as it could have been, and you're correct to pick up on the hyperbole afterwards...

but.

There seems to be an inevitabilty that simple questions or attempts at discussion are doomed to petty bickering and flaming (and here I am, wading in...sigh).

I'm not singling anyone out, I don't want to flame - or be flamed, come to that - I hope it calms down when i13 hits; despite GR's seemingly massive patience (I can't quite believe he wades through editing threads as much as he does, rather than just deleting stuff as used to happen - the effort is appreciated, at least by me) there seems to be a lot of ill feeling sloshing around the boards recently.

I can't imagine that you're going to read this, Mr OP, but...

but since none of you thought to ask

[/ QUOTE ]

You posted, and then your next comment is three days later. If they had asked whether it was humerous or not, they would have got no reply.

And when they do get a reply, it would be an unreadable mess of text with punctuation applied only for emphasis.

[ QUOTE ]

Then don't post at work, or read either. Losing your job over a game forum is seriously not worth it, and I'm not going to read your posts because they are entirely unreadable.

There does seem to be a lot of negativity around at the moment, and I'm as guilty as anyone.

I think we are picking it up of each other.

I really should do something about this signature.

I'm oozing it too I'm afraid. A lot of it is rechannelled Real Life worries I'm afraid (I'm in limbo over a pending operation which could happen tomorrow, or it could take a month to get a bed, which is winding me right up). I did make a positive post over the weekend to try and atone

But apologies to anyone caught in my crossfire, it's not you, its the Irish Health system.

I couldn't argue with that (well, I could, but that would get me into a "This statement is false" sort of paradox, so best not), although I wouldn't have said simple questions were being picked out as particular targets for flames.

There's this rather flammable-looking thread, for instance (probably coincidentally by the same OP as this one) that against all the odds steadfastly refused to catch.

There does seem to be a general irritability though; part of it may be down to the usual pre-Issue tension, which leads the usual "come on, release it now"/"servers are too quiet, merge them all"/"changes in test are rubbish" noise.

This time round the larger part of the changes are being made to PvP too, and there's a topic that tends to lead to heated threads at the best of times.

All we can do is drink less caffeine, hope I13's out soon, and hope GR's blood pressure doesn't get too out of control.

well that responce went better than i thought it would... look i dont want to cause any trouble on the threads or upset anyone and i apologise for the misspelling and the poor choice of words in places, but the more i post forums and the more i read the better im gunna get at not messing up i mean if we where like this to every new poster we would have know online comunity what so ever, share a little love if you think i post is a bit off or misspelled instead of jumping on them and insulting there inteligence just put a subtle post correcting the person before it gets out of hand and thus giving that new poster a good impretion who will then tell other to join, but theres no need to be so picky about every little detail i think 9 out 10 people get the zist of what i was trying to say but you get one smart guy who picks up on it and humiliates them for it, just let it go. and i agree with the pre issue tenssion thing once its out we will be far to busy playing to post :P

That's fair enough, and of course it does work both ways. Announcing loudly that there have been (I paraphrase, but only slightly) "hundreds of hate posts after a few seconds" will tend to raise the temperature a bit...

depends on how you define "ready" really...
if I13 will be anything like the other issues then it'll be ready before it's bugfree

on the other hand, if it doesn't go live the dev team might not find the last bugs

there might also be some kind of preasure on the dev team, like a deadline (wich is my theory)

anyway.. the servers will be taken down in a few min

Well, I'm glad that's all sorted and we all ended up with valuable lessons about life.

Perhaps we should all sit in a circle, hold hands and sing something jolly.

Perhaps also we should have some sort of signal for other forumites to indicate attempted humour... perhaps an emoticon of some sort?

Perhaps I use perhaps too much.

In any case...

Hope the op happened and went ok Carni.

If you do I'll double it and pass it on to a charity; I'd say the chances of an Issue going out on a Thursday are slim to zero.

So thats sometime after the 27th then. I do wish they wouldn't assume we know what they are on about with thanksgiving. I had to look at wikipedia to find out when their little festival is due to happen. Not all of us in the rest of the world have a clue what they are on about with thanksgiving. it's like the world series, how can it be world when only americans enter it?

Ah well, us europeans probably have stuff they don't understand. At least we don't have to strap on armour just to play rugby

Take up roleplaying. Suddenly you know the names and dates of these quaint, American festivals.

The devs at NCNC will get absolutely nothing done for most of next week. Thanksgiving is really pretty much bigger than Christmas, despite being a pretty recent invention, and at one point being decried as racist. Interestingly, it seems to hook up fairly well with a European (Dutch that I know of) festival which happens around December 5th. Can't help but wonder whether the Puritans took it over with them.

Anyway, America shuts down next week Wednesday and doesn't emerge until Tuesday, and then they seem to wonder why we shut down for the week over Christmas. Hey ho.

Ahhh!

But many MMO's launch content patches or events just before Thanksgiving so as to keep their players interested when everything else has shut down for the week.

Only those who are run entirely by their marketting department. You'll note that the marketting department still gets the time off instead of having to come in and fix all the problems that result from major releases.

NCSoft release patches on a Tuesday, usually, which indicates they appreciate their IT staff more. Monday is a bad day, because it's Monday. Friday is out because when something goes wrong, the IT staff/programmers/both + the PR team end up working all weekend to fix it, and no matter how fast they do it, the customers will hate them for it.

Even those companies who do do releases before major holidays are idiots. So, they release the patch to 'give the players a treat' and it all goes kablooey. Instead of a treat, the players get downed servers. Of course, when this happens, Marketting don't get blamed for launching on a stupid date...

No, I'm not bitter.
