Take up roleplaying. Suddenly you know the names and dates of these quaint, American festivals.
The devs at NCNC will get absolutely nothing done for most of next week. Thanksgiving is really pretty much bigger than Christmas, despite being a pretty recent invention, and at one point being decried as racist. Interestingly, it seems to hook up fairly well with a European (Dutch that I know of) festival which happens around December 5th. Can't help but wonder whether the Puritans took it over with them.
Anyway, America shuts down next week Wednesday and doesn't emerge until Tuesday, and then they seem to wonder why we shut down for the week over Christmas. Hey ho.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahhh!
But many MMO's launch content patches or events just before Thanksgiving so as to keep their players interested when everything else has shut down for the week.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well WoW, LOTR & Conan all released their patches last week (although Conans Funcom are European) so they've over a week to monitor and fix any issues.
Any smaller margin than that is too risky IMO. Even a week and a half is rather close for my liking.

Honestly I was expecting it to arrive same time as the Lich King TBH, not that I really want to play any of the new sets... well maybe a Fire/Pain corr
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
2008 is my guess

Honestly, different priorities on marketting in the companies. Really.

Or that was the plan but crying on the forums about changed PvP and last minute tweaks/bug fixes have pushed it back so now it'll be afterwards, we can't really tell
Just out of interest, why do people think that NCW would time the release to go with Wrath?

I certainly didn't.. Such an attempt would be pointless and doomed to fail to compete from the start. I'm pretty sure NC knew that too...

I didn't particularly think they would either, but I did think they'd try and have it live before the US Thanksgiving holidays sometime.

At first, I thought they'd release by the 27th... Then I remembered it was Thanksgiving and KNEW they wouldn't. Winter event starts on December 18th IIRC, so you can bet i13 will likely go live within 2 weeks; probably less.
In fact, keep the Tuesday after Thanksgiving free.

OR if your in the UK, do all your things in the day and keep your afternoon/evening free, 5pm/6pm it goes live dont it here in the UK ?
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
Why 5/6pm? wouldn't it go live as soon as the maintenace patch was applied?

That's when it is usually applied.

You've been here for plenty of Issue releases in the past, Sugars so you should know by now that they're done by the US devs themselves, not the usual maintenance crew. They start them quite early their time, which makes it usually about 1-2pm our time, and it takes about 4 hours. Hence 5-6pm completion time here.

I work, I've never been at home waiting for the patch; I assumed it was applied as part of normal maintenance.
I work too, and don't get home before the patch is done. Surely you've seen the forum posts for releases though?

Not for full Issues - they like the dev team to be on hand for these, in case something goes pear-shaped. And as the devs are all on US time, that means Issue updates take place in our afternoons.
november the 29th!! the end is nigh!

Not totally true. It's applied as part of normal maintainance (10am shut down), but it goes on for longer, usually several hours. Well, it used to anyway. Generally this means it's back up for the evening.

I think I4 (Arena one anyway) went live on a Friday and they learned their lesson. They usually release on a Tuesday these days, from what I remember.

Pretty much yeah, and given the winter event starts on Dec 18th, and they'll need a couple of weeks for i13 to bed in, it's extremely likely to be released on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the 2nd December.
In fact, iirc, they've released on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving before, last year.

You appear to have your avatar on a cycling thing, and some of them, especially the animated Leonidas one at 1.95mb, are stupidly large. You DO know there's an avatar filesize limit on here, don't you?
