Happy with paid for aditions to the game?

hey will take their travel power at level 14 and 'waste' their two build slots on something they only use to travel from mission to the shops and trainers and vica versa.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh I dunno, I think Hasten is damn useful for a lot of toon, Air Superiority is one of the best soft control powers in the game and one of the early TP powers is also damn handy depending on how you play your toons.

I never consider Hasten a waste, certainly

That's very true, Hasten is almost essential on most of my toons.

No problem with paying here.

I know a lot of people stick with this game and love it for the huge customisable toons. Hence the devs are on a winner with paid for costume options.

As for the paid for powers, considering the lengths they go to to "balance" the game I really can't see them giving a paid for ubba power out.

I love Hasten, along with Stamina, it is my favourite and IMO most useful pool power of all time.

Economics is a thing where some people say thats insane while others see an opportunity.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, all those bankers who lent money to people who couldn't pay it back saw opportunity. I happen to think our devs are wiser than that.

[ QUOTE ]
I don't understand why you see this as insane though? So far people seem to be willing to pay for the additions. So why not take it a step further?

[/ QUOTE ]

For the same reason EATs are not more powerful than base ATs. Balance is good for subscriptions, inbalance is bad for subscriptions. Therefore deliberately breaking balance, wether its down to money or having a level 50, will loose subscriptions.

Subscritions are way way more important to revenue than one any one off sales. You pay around £9 per month subs. A supebooster pack could only be produced about every other month, only brings in £5, and not all players will buy it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the reasoning behind your statement. Hope you are right about the sanity of our devs then. In the end all we can do is wait and see what happens next. We will get more paid for ad ons of course. But hopefully they wont be insane enough to do pink fluffy bunny things. I remain slightly concerned in the meanwhile though, but a little less then before.

So you only waste 1 power not 2 right?

Of course hasten, air superiority, recall friend tp foe and even combat jumping are usefull in their way. But would you have taken that power if you didn't need it for the travel power?

[ QUOTE ]

Really, we don't know much about this 'Teleport to Mission' power, and it's a bit early to judge how 'unbalancing' it is, however it probably has a 30 minute timeout, so we aren't exactly talking game breaking. If you think that's going to replace travel powers in most people's eyes, then I'd suggest reassessing. Aside from anything else, it's only to mission doors, what about all the other places you need to go?

[/ QUOTE ]

As a travel power it will be limited true. The jetpack is more versatile of course. Though I will probably dislike the mission tp more. Buncha show offs. Can't we force those with tp to door to take recall friend as well?

[ QUOTE ]
And beyond that, the rest of your post was worst case scenario speculation with the suggestion that it was inevitable. Exactly what we come to expect at the weekend, really.

Weekend got an inconvenient timing here. It should not be a weekend when i am trying to express a worry and invite others to discuss said worry.

yes, yes and thrices Yes!! I thought I'd made this clear already?

I love Hasten, I have it on every single toon I make. Super Speed is by far my fave travel power it's a no-brainer to me to take them both. The rare times I make a toon with Fly I take Air Sup as well. On my TP toons, I always take one of the other two, depending on how I want to play the toon and it's AT. The only one I consider lesser is Combat Jumping and on some of my squishier toons I like it as it's a bit extra defence and useful in PVP as well.

Ironically, the only ones I take regularly I ahte taking is swift and hurdle, but then I have choice in the matter if I want Stamina.

I only have two toons without CJ, not all my characters have SJ, so I guess I'd take a travel power pre-req without taking a travel power. I also have a few with Hasten but without SS, but not so many

I believe the extras that come with the Mac Special Edition will be packaged together in the same manner that the GvE Edition goodies were packaged together.

Yeah I figured the Mac add ons will be a bundle and not a recuring cost...leading me to think that the TP to door power will have a TP to Base sized recharge on it.

As for taking a power just to get to the travel power: I use hasten a lot, but then I'm impatient. I barely use SS, I think it's fun but chaotic, and unless you have Hurdle as well you're pretty stuffed with any big jumps. I dont take hasten just to get to SS, I take Hasten because it's vital, to me.

I love Sj and fly, they're the two I generally go for, so CJ is a nifty bonus...same with Hover...they're all good powers.

The only reason the Rocket Pack has a 30 day limit is that it was 30 days in the original retail bundle it came with.

Somehow, I don't think it can be much of a gamebreaking power boost, or much of a moneyspinner, based on the number of people I know or have seen who have actually baught it (which is equal to exactly zero).

I really should do something about this signature.

well i've seen atleast one person with the jetpack so it could even be 3

And I have, so it could be 4.
It's at least 3, since Delph is not the one I've seen, and neither is his girlfriend.

So no monthly fee then?? Ai Ai me not liking that. Then I sincerely hope it has a huge cooldown of at least 1 hour.

and the mac tp/cossie because if its free to them, what we having to pay for it for?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know what the pricing is for the Mac special edition as yet, however I'd wait until after pricing is announced before making any assumptions about whether we're asking people to pay for something that others get 'free'. The special GvE Edition is priced higher than a standard game account, and the GvE add-on pack costs the difference for those who decide they want it. Similarly, the temporary jet pack costs the difference between a regular sub and the cost of the special prepaid card it comes with in the US.

From what I've read, it's pretty much going to work exactly how the current GvE edition works now. You'd buy the Mac GvE pack and get your goodies, just like the PC GvE pack. The Mac verison has DIFFERENT goodies to the PC version, but owners of one can buy the goodies of the other.

So, I'm utterly failing to see how this could be even remotely unfair, frankly, and I think people either just don't comprehend what is really a very simple concept, or are just whining.

Why the personal attacks?

The post is NOT about it being unfair that new players get a special power.

It IS about the ongoing trend about micro-payment for goodies. It IS about the concern that NCSoft will create buyable packs that are a simple must have.

It is also a question. Do others see this trend as something unwanted?

The answer so far seems to be. NO, people don't see a problem with this trend or don't expect this trend to grow 'out of control'.
