DOOM... obviously
I cant find that specific line anyway, i do read this:
NC West is really about NCsoft getting serious and doubling down back into the AAA side of the business. These games have big teams, require huge investments, and take years to build but there arent many people who do that as well as we do and you can expect to see and hear more from us on the Lineage / City of Heroes / Guild Wars kind of product going forward. Thats what this company is going to be all about.
So they still see GW/LA2/CoH as their core 3 games, with TR/DR as 'lower'. TR itself i must admit indeed got majorly better. The difference between beta/start and now is very huge, they really improved the game, yet failed on a few aspects (instance teaming is as good as dead).

So we got it right about the consolidation aspect of the recent job losees then.
Shame for poor Rockie, K and Bridger et al. I do hope they were at least offered other jobs in the company somewhere??
It's good to hear that CoX is still being classed as a AAA title though!
We built this city on Rock and Roll!
CoX is continuously in the top ten rankings on most game sites and while there arent the same population levels as there were at start-up very few games manage this.
Pressure will only be applied to this when other super hero games get launched and thats not until the middle of next year. The good thing about this is that it is putting some pressure on NC to ramp up CoX development.

[/ QUOTE ]This! It seems like CoX is only passed on by word of mouth and a few MMO website reports. With all the adverts for WoW and EvE that seem to be plastered over virtually every MMO gaming site it's a miracle people know CoX exists at all.
Doing anything marketting wise right now is going to be a total waste of cash:
1. Warhammer: AoR just out.
2. WoW: Wrath of the Lich King announced for November 13th (IIRC).
3. Credit Crunch.
So, NCW settle back, make plans, get ready for a push in the new year. That would be my view.
Meanwhile, the Doom Brigade will be setting around telling us that CoX isn't marketted and is going to fold unless we are told their entire marketting and development strategy for the next 5 years RIGHT NOW!
Could be an interesting few months.

Indeed it would be a waste of time with all these new MMO titles it'll be hard to beat the hype and excitment of new or newly expanded titles.
and speaking of the credit crunch recently read in the daily mirror that britons consume an estimated 9 billion cups of tea per year with coffee in at around 6 billion can see now why the government wanted water rates.

I have absolutely no doubt that NCWest have a plan for the future, any good business should. I just think some of us get anxious because we don't know what it is. Things have been quiet for a while now (aside from the i13 teasers) and I'm expecting more big news on the horizon.

And the actual result of this insecurity is that people post a bunch of threads claiming that the game is over, doomed, defunct. If that doesn't make new folks go "why did I bother buying this game" I can't think what will.
So, rather than revealing all their plans to the opposition when the opposition has more flexibility to copy them bigger and better, and wasting their advertising budget trying to beat something (a) isn't competition and (b) can't be beaten, NCW are busy setting themselves up for future efforts.
And we would be well served to shut up with the screams of doom and let them.

LA2 just had a huge server merge a few months ago........
Accorcding to friends who are doing that game it improved gameplay a lot. Interestingly, a lot of players in that game are from the former eastblock. It is the american servers that has gotten the shaft while the euro servers are crowded.
That's being... sensible though, and logical, Ravenswing. And we all know that isn't allowed on the internet.

Well apparently there's i13 news sometime today according to a vague post by Lighthouse last night.
Although I dunno if that means tomorrow for us or what?

Yes, that's more likely admittedly. I'm just being optimistic.

Couldn't agree more. I tire of Doom Posts as much as the next person. And yes, they can often be more damaging than helpful.

I wouldn't want them to either. Just look at the calls of 'thief' between CoX and CO when the mission creator was announced. Best to keep their best ideas under their hat for now. Of course not revealing their plans can lead to the already mentioned insecurity amongst some players. It's a fine balancing act.

It means sometime between 5PM this evening and 1AM tomorrow in GMT probably.
I really should do something about this signature.
according to a MMORPG.com Poll, CoH is still the 2nd favorite NCsoft game of the sites' users
so i don't think CoH is going anywhere

I think that tells us a great deal about how they view this particular franchise: It's their core product, well respected, loved by the fans and unique in MMOs (to date)

I would adjust that to one of their core products, but yeah. That was kind of what I was getting at when this thread started.

Plus to be honest, although we all love CoX, it is a few years old now, so people who want to play it have probably either played it and left or are still here.
The thing that could possibly bring people in would be if the PVP was worked on to the extent that it was renowned for being excellent, unlike now which is the opposite, sadly. Even then, PVP is not everybodys thing.
I wish we could bring more people in and show them how much fun this game can be, but maybe the best we can hope for is to woo back ex-players.
Zhaan, Chakyra, Fiorina 161, Aeryn, Polly Nation, Dee Pression, Shazanne, Night Jester and too many more to mention.

There's an interview posted up at MMORPG.com with David Reid, President of NCWest in which he clearly does not say that City of Heroes is getting a multi-million dollar revamp. On this basis I predict all the servers will be shut down next week.
What?
Seriously, if you want to read it, it's here: http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/2262
Mostly just the kind of pep-talk and management speak you'd expect, but it does lay down what they currently think their operational direction is and says that Tabula Rasa isn't quite dead yet.
