Certain malicious players recently tried to pass themselves off as GMs/representatives of NCsoft. Our true GMs found them very easily and they were sanctioned for these actions.
Some facts will help you to recognize a true GM/representative of NCsoft:
1- A true GM will never require your logon details or password from you. If somebody asks for these details, be wary of them!
2- A true GM is recognizable with their name preceded by GM_. For example GM_Name. No player can use prefix GM_!
3- A true GM is recognizable with the colour of their private messages. These messages will be posted in blue instead of the usual yellow colour.
4- A true GM will warn you by email, in answer to your petition before any intervention is carried out and thereafter when the intervention takes place.
If you have suspicions concerning anyone who may be trying pass themselves off as NCSoft staff, do not hesitate to let us know the details of who it is it is by using the /petition command in game, or raising one through the Support centre (can be linked to from Ghostraptor's signature).

It's been 'shouted' to the top of every section of the forums (not sure if this is intentional, since the original is all in French with no localisation).
I expect we'll get an 'official' notification from GR at some point in the near future (once the panic has died down).
I do think that it might be worth an in-game GMOTD to let people know about this, and to highlight point 3.

You also cant use backspace to reply to them, makes it a bit awkward having to type /t name, everytime
I think the ability to turn up as a police drone, having every power in the game the a "BAN MODE TURN ON" button kinda says it all. Glad the GM staff are cracking down on the shameless scumbags that are posing as GM's.

Yep, pretty sure last time I had a GM help me out with a mission, I replied to them using backspace.

If you pass yourself off as a Giant Monster in a PvP zone and someone kills you there's a danger that they players will notice that they received a noticeable reward...
...before long the devs are inundated with demands for all GMs to be changed to closer meet some arbitrary risk:reward balance. NC, understandably, takes this very seriously.

[/ QUOTE ]With 95% of your petitions, you're not going to ever actually see the GM, just talk to them through tells or (out-of-game-)e-mail, so that's fairly pointless.

its not as pointless as you tihnk considering the problem being discused is people pretending to be a gm so if the gm names apear in a different color like red or whatever that gamers cant copy then it makes them stan out all that more and alot harder for people to try and scam there way round it

This is accomplished with the GM_ prefix already: it is unavailable to players.

I've only seem a GM once, playing as a villain they turned up with a blaster. A blaster in the rogue islands, that and their name made it obvious they were a GM.
When i seen a GM they've always been a police drone. Which i'm pretty sure isn't available to players
I have, in my 3+ years of playing this game, never seen a GM. Nor have i talked to one in game. For me, they are a myth, a story that others tell to get themselves through the long hard bugged missions. A mere legend of promised help and omnipotence. But, I had never had a purple drop before a month ago when i had 2 in one night, so they're all a bit like buses i imagine...

The one I've seen looked like a bare-chested elf of some sort - he just appeared out of thin air beside our group when we were on a "defeat all" mission, and the last enemy had been blasted behind a display case window by someone's knockback
