Is I13 announcement this week?

* The last 2 weeks or so the forums seem to have got angrier - I usually see this as a sign that it's been too long since the last update and we're due another.

* I12 was early May iirc - allow 6+ weeks for I13 announcements and alpha/betas (closed and open) and we're probably looking at about the right time for a new issue (placing it late August/early Sept).

* Last week's announcement about CoH/V merge/unification seems (to me) to be the slow start of I13 (pre-I13) announcements.

* Last week, the NC Europe community team got a visit to NCNC.

This last one I see as potentially interesting. Companies don't usually jet staff halfway around the world just so that they can escape the UK alleged-summer... I feel that they might jet them around the world if they want to make sure that they're up to speed on the next big thing before it's announced to the public.

I think that the portents are there for an I13 announcement either this week or next... I'm just wondering if it's tomorrow or Friday.

Or in other words - yippee - I think a distraction from the forum arguments is imminent.

Anyone got any ideas how we manage to grab Kerensky for pre-Issue rumours? GR's effect upon speculation just isn't the same as a manic Germanic influence...

There is a general feeling it's about time for the basic announcement of Issue 13 should be starting soon. One of the main reasons for this is generally the playerbase, both US and EU are getting restless for any kind of news it seems especially since they made us wait longer than we're use to for issue 12 (six months, compared to the usual four it seems).

Also it's to see whether we actually get the promised 'three issues a year' because the longer they leave it the less likely it seems and to be honest I seriously doubt we will be getting three issues this year simply due to the move all the devs went through and the hiring of new staff (which would require training).

Positron commented that Issue 13 was gonna be big, really big (hinting that it's gonna be the biggest Issue yet thanks to the influx of staff) so everybody is desperate to find out what this truly means.

I can wait a little while longer mind you.

Not me. I'm good ta, still enjoying the game, plenty left to do despite dinging 5 toons and on the way to 3 more. If you mean "*I* have a general feeling..." then fair enough.

The reason the playerbase gets shirty and angsty sometimes is because its formed of mmorpg and/or comic book geeks, two geek subcultures renowned even amongst their own geek bretheren for a shocking lack of manners, self awareness and social conduct.

Take your time, dev chaps. I'd rather see announcements when they're ready, not when forum whinging reaches fever pitch.

I'm a bit afraid of Issue 13.

I really hope it's going to be big. Because if not, people will be very dissapointed (and angry) for waiting so long.
Don't want to be around the forums then.

We've gotten some hints... Would love some more information, specially on powersets and such making it in.

But don't rush the release like you did with I12... *grumble*

And they do wait until they're ready.

A lot of my OP is because it looks to me like they are ready (or almost) - hence the trip to NCNC and the announcement about CoH/V unification (as a prelude to future direction of IP development.

Whilst not running the dev schedule to forum rants, it's often the way that we see increased argumentative behavious in the 2 or 3 weeks before issue announcements are made.

The timing of announcemets very possibly has some link to forum activity, as it doesn't hurt NC to start dribbling out information if it looks like the playerbase are getting increasingly restless. After all, a press release/announcement or two can distract the playerbase whilst having no impact on release schedule. Not really the tail wagging the dog as much as the dog having an unruly tail that can be brought in line by going for walkies an hour earlier than usual...

OMG - we planned to make an announcement in a week about a release in about 8 weeks time, but the players are starting to get really miffed... what can we do??? Maybe make an announcement this week that we're planning a release in about 9 weeks time.

This... remember the debacle that was I7?

I too have concerns regarding I13... I got the feeling with I12 there was a distinct move away from the classic superhero comicbook game with Cimerora, clearly trying to cash in on Frank Miller's 300 and the subsequent movie.

Whatever I13 brings I truly hope it doesn't depart from the basic tenets of the game. That said, I've enjoyed every issue from I8 onwards so let's hope things continue

Uh? What similarities do you see between Cimerora and 300? I'm hard pressed to find any.

I don't know; time travel back to Wild West/Medieval/Roman/Greek times is a fairly standard trope of superheroics.

The original Ouberoussos addition didn't really provide that, just time travel back to near-enough contemporary settings, so Cimerora's just bolting on to that in an internally consistent way.

And here I was thinking it was because they are both computer generated.
So many choices to pick from when it comes to Cimerora and 300 similarites.

Greek & Roman mythology has always provided half the storylines for modern tales of heroism. At least cimerora seems to be taking us closer to the well of furies and the established backstory of CoX rather than being a total rush thrown together since one of the devs got 300 on DVD...

Did 300 re-use the baddies army from Blazing Saddles?

Part that, part Lord of the Rings. IIRC the chief baddie was a Goa'uld.

Emphasis mine, but that's a really good point and one I'd not considered. I also noticed yesterday that there's a whole shipyard out of range in there presumably available for future forays

I don't think it was really "cashing in" - apart from the "defeat 300 enemies" and the Surgeons and Engineers being beefy men in leather diapers, there's no real connection at all - it doesn't try and recreate any part of the movie, or put you in a similar position to characters in the movie - it's just a couple of humorus verbal and visual references.
Mostly, it's just a logical follow up of the time-travel themed Issue 11, and the general game background, which is full of classical mythology stuff.

I'm hoping we get more time-travel in future Issues too, like visiting the Middle Ages or ancient Egypt.

For all the concern Destiny Manifest was Villain content heavy and the troubles with Grandville and Recluses Victory when they were new, I have to say I still maintain Issue 7 was somewhat underated as far as how much effort the Devs put into it, I mean lets not forget this was the issue all our mid-range slightly blurry textures were replaced with beautiful crisp High-res ones!. Fair bit of work that.
