How is the game SUPPOSED to be played?

with a fridge full of bear with in easy reach

[/ QUOTE ]Make sure that fridge is locked tight though.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess its a polar bear?

I really don't want to know why you'd be naked though... As long as you and the bear are happy with your lifestyle choice who are we to judge?

[/ QUOTE ]

According to QI the best way to get away from a Polar bear is to undress as it stops to look at each item of clothing you drop. I guess the last item of clothing was in the fridge. Everyone knows that a spare pare of sneekers in the ice box is the perfect addition to anyroom......... any Red Dwarf fan that is, which encompases as much of everyone as is important

"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

I pay the subscription, I play the game how I like is a standard and I suppose to some extent it's true. This is more relevant when your soloing really because what some may not realise is that it's a massive multiplayer game, so it actually has real players from all over. Some don't seem to realise or care about this.

A team of 8 playing the game how they want to play may be good fun and nobody gets hurt, and they may enjoy it when the tanker is chasing the foes repelled by the grav controller.Empathy defender healing the powerlevelling blaster and nobody else, or kinetic defender speed boosting the scrapper and ignoring the stone tanker, yeah they are playing the game how they want in a group that enjoys that. They pay the subs, it's their right and that's fine.

The factor that should come into it, is that it's not a multiplayer game like ones with 4 controllers plugged into the console and sitting around with your mates having beers and having a major laugh at each other misfortunes. It's people from all over the continent and world, with different emotional levels and feelings that can be hurt or maybe no feelings at all. This I think brings limits to the 'play how you want' philosophy.

People play the game for themselves but it shouldn't be that way with this type of game. The only my mates matter credo isn't fair either. Like some that have their mates game client login and log their own and their mates characters in, and invite strangers unaware of this to farm , what they don't know doesn't hurt them, but basically they are being cheated from rewards. These are people who probably think that every character other than a mate is an npc. Others remember this and are there for fun enjoyment and social interaction and are more generous with it. Never intentionally cheating people of their fun and knowing that there is flesh and blood controlling that weird looking green, pink and yellow coloured hero/villain.

If it's farming and filling and talking spam - spiced ham/clogging channel (take your pick), or being foul mouthed, then I say create a global channel, invites only to the foul mouthed one and if you want it join it. That keeps it away from anyone who doesn't like it or agree with it and doesn't want their game experience ruined by it. And if there aren't enough people online and you need your filling experience then don't pester people unless they are in your filler channel or they state they accept fill requests in their search comment.

This is of course just how I feel and my mood may vary but to me the 'I pay the subs and will play the game how I want as long as it doesn't hurt the feelings of another player' philosophy is better for this type of game.

Then again Tainted Greeks jello idea is pretty tempting.

The true spirit of gaming would be to have fun but don't intentionally ruin other peoples fun. If fun is farming then go ahead. If not, then don't bother. When teamed with people who maybe conflicting with your idea of fun accept a common goal of simply overcoming a challenge together in the manner thats respectful to, in this games case, heroes or villains.
PvP in a zone, after clearly outclassing someone can you be doing whats can be classed as grieving by outclassing them further when they don't want it, and start to lose interest in PvP altogether. The greatest spirit of a PvPer would be one thats helping to proliferate more PvPers.
All cases keep conversation civil. Smacktalk for RP purposes .

Well said - I think you've summed up my ethos in far less words than I used (I'd even extend that ethos beyond gaming into real life - that's probably where the jello would come into it for most people ).

That was GGs quote, not Shannons.

Shannons seemed more appropriate:

I believe she meant that if your not having fun, or causing others to not have fun, then you're not playing the game properly.

Right now im listening to my radio but im going to turn it off while i type this becouse for once i find this something worth writing about that i might be a bit confused on. I was playing this a while ago and have been for a while. While i did take a year break, i do come back to play. All the talk on here is about how classes are better then others, about WHY i decided to make a "Energy/Kin Coruptor". I get told off for having my MM have "personal attacks" and get whinged at when someone says i should be on a harder difficulty. Im SICK AND TIRED of people telling me im wrong in a game whos main draw is the fact you have so much freedom, saying i MUST do something or im being stupid. Debt should be higher? What about the people new to the game that find it hard maybe to work off the debt becouse there are very few partys? There are people who want to solo sometimes too!

Ive recently started grouping a lot and found it extreamly fun and easy for exp but im not sadistic enough to say put it up X4 just becouse its what it used to be, sure it being higher would be nice but it dosn't teach you "not to die", it just makes it harder to level when you do. The longer a new player stays low level, the less interest they have with the game. Happens in a lot of game.

The game is made to be played how you want but subjecting others to the way you play it and making them suffer like you did dosn't seem fair. Sound more like a bit of a [censored] thinking to me.

Needless to say, ive only recently come back so im sure what i rant abotu will be dismissed as "you haven't played long enough" :/

I'd go even further and say that should be saved for between friends and preferably not on public channels. If a friend gives me smacktalk then I assume there is humour behind it (same as in RL) and give them the benefit of the doubt (and a hefty dose of smacktalk in return), but if a stranger does it then I just assume they're an inveterate moron looking to wind people up and start arguments for their own amusement, i.e. the kind of person I don't want to mix with.

I always try to think the best of people when working out what they meant, because plain text can't be as nuanced as a real conversation (lacking tone and body language), but the lack of judgement involved in using smacktalk in a public channel viewed by people you don't know all that well just speaks volumes. I sometimes wonder if some people have been around so long they see the public channels as their own private chatroom - that can lead to perceived cliques too, another bad thing for a community that wants to grow, imho.

Honestly too much smacktalk in public is going to put some newbies off the game, and/or off certain parts of the game (whether that's PvE PuGs/TFs, PvP, RP, or whatever). We all know how bad the WoW community looks from the outside through their forums (and from the inside through their global channels, I'm sad to say) - I'd hate to see this game and community being seen in that way by some people, just because of the actions of a few bad apples, spammers, idiots etc.

Agreed. Though i don't understand the idea for smacktalk in the first place. >.> I normaly go "nice work" when im beaten. I guess im odd.

I go all lopsided then and fall over. It's not pleasant. I'm incapable of outacting Roger Moore, although I can do a terrible passable Sean Connery impression.

This is obviously how the game is supposed to be played - nonsense on the forum between missions
