Problem is when changing something that involvs tagging across all profiles it is almost impossible to notify everyone what youre gonne do.
hitting the 150 profiles soon...
[/ QUOTE ]
There's a simple solution to that.
Don't change anyone elses pages.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok.. just was doing my best editing errors and making a category better. I leave it to the mods then.. (who do it too if needed anyway...)
I have never and will never change any story stuff... Do you have any idea how many typo's there are in the profiles...?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, 'typos' doesn't need an apostrophe in it, so perhaps you might not be the best person to be editing other people's mistakes?
Edit: Edited this back to what it said before I edited it due to being complained at.

I suggest you do leave it to the mods, yes. Editing errors and making categories better, there is no real need for that. You don't know other peoples characters, so you shouldn't be adding them to categories that they haven't added themselves to, as they might not/probably don't want to be added to categories, if they fit there or not.
I like Lunk's idea of a Nationality category, with English, American, stuff like that.
White Keener
Blue Serpent
Prophet Mu'Remar
I do know websites and databases very well... but no prob if you don't want too... I leave it...
Took me hours of thinking and researching I can better spend somewhere else then.
Just interested and trying to make it as good as can be.
For instance.. go for nationality.. and if you leave it out on even a few, it will not be a trusty category. You will also need for aliens. And it will have to be a Category that gets a huge sub category list. Will be cool to add a flag of the country to every country sub category too.
Also.. think now on how to call them... English, American etc.. or UK, USA... or England, United States... That should be decided on before making them... Even when descided some will make a new country category and do it a different way anyway. So the mods will have to change it to keep them all the same name resolution. So they will have to change the category on the profile. And you just said several times you dont like that without explicit go-a-head from you.
Also when people link to English.. while the category is called England.. English should become a redirector to England. Or be a red link. And red links are dead links.. either to be repaired or removed. Ok.. with a good redirector for every country category made... changing profiles will not be needed. Unless there is a typo in the category placed.
The final category should have a few lines on the country and an external wikipedia link towards the complete wikipedia page or a short explenation if its a non-excisting country or planet.
And what about nationelised citizens? Liz was born in Hungray.. which is now Slovaky... while she lives in Rogue Isles. What is her nationality?
Just don't attack me for forcing you guys to think about the impact and the way it should be looked at.

lol! omg, killer whale is still around! that guy kicks [censored]. the best 'big dumb tank' character around.
know what the worst bit about this wiki is for me? with 3 years of played history, and Christ knows how many years of family history, its taking me forever to finish lunk's page.
1 year to go, i think XD
I'm afraid I have a bone to pick with you Liz, again. Looking through the categories I assume you added (Vampire, Werewolf) you've written down suggested "rules" to use for those character concepts. I'd suggest very much removing these, as they are just your opinion, and do not have a place in the categories. Anyone that calls himself a werewolf should be allowed in the werewolf category, and anyone who calls them self a vampire should be in the vampire category.
If you want to get your opinion across, i suggest you put up a separate article about your own vampire and werewolf lore, rather than trying to impose it on others. The same for you posting "This character should be a Zombie.." on one of my character profiles. My character isn't in the zombie category because he is not a zombie. Simple as.

Not only that but the articles you mentioned are full of bad grammar and spelling mistakes.
Oh and may I suggest changing the "werewolf" category into "therianthropes" so that you can put other types of animal shapeshifters in?
Take A Gander At This.
hmm...then I come along and throw a spanner in the works, what would Mechano be listed as?
His base form is human (if old and grey skinned) and his younger form is human but he can adopted an anthropomorphic Dragon form (through mucking about with genetics) and he has a Werewolf form (through being bitten by a Werewolf).
Technically he could coexist in three given categories at once, Human, Anthro and Werewolf.
Perhaps just a 'Shapeshifter' category for those of us that are just plain oddballs.

A real showstopper!

A Therianthrope is somebody who changes from bestial forms to human forms and back, so he'd be a Therianthrope.
Take A Gander At This.
Ah thanks for the quick answer
In that case then yes a Therianthrope category would be most applicable, characters like Wild Child can shapeshift through different beast forms as well (so far only seen Tiger and Bunny, having read the profile, there's obviously more) so I wouldn't be the only one in this category.
Badge Earned: Wing Clipper
A real showstopper!
The american site uses the term Lycantrope as category but that only points to werewolves.
If you do'n't like my additions that are too much like opinions. Feel free to change it. The main part is the lines from wikipedia. I may have carried away on there being at work and only of half a mind at the time.
On the grammar etc. I never said I was good at spelling... english is not my language. And I 'haven't changed a word of spelling yet. Even though I found lots of 'i' instead of 'I', 'hetrosexual' or 'hetorosexual' etc. If someone who is really good at spelling would like to come forward and change that please do so.
I will wait this out for now. Made up a banner though.

Removed my opions in those categories.. I admit to be out of line there. But that's what the discussion pages are for.
btw... raising up discussions isn't a crime. A good discussion will only make the wiki better.

I think we should hold the lycantrope affliction as a different category because the origin of those powers are to different from most other animal shapeshifters...
Maybe have several categories and use Therianthrope for the ones left?

Whoa, people are getting a bit carried away here. Yes, Liz had gotten over-enthustiatic and made a mistake in adding the sexuality categories to everyone, but that's fixed now, lesson learned. No need for public cruxification, is there?
Everyone is allowed to add their own categories, see post by Pious:
[ QUOTE ]
Concerning categories. Its up to the individual to setup any category of their choice (within reason or it'll be removed) and then tag it to their profiles.
[/ QUOTE ]
Secondly, there are no RULES posted on these vampire/zombie pages. There is a short description taken directly from wikipedia and few hints and tips how to make your character more vampire-like. Which points are justified on the page, the wiki entry more than tips. I saw no mentions of 'you have to be like X to be a vampire' which I would agree shouldn't be there. As for spelling errors, it is no worse than quite a few unionwiki pages, or general posting on these forums. I honestly think picking on someone's grammar just looks petty. If you want corrections to that page, you could use the talk page, I am sure?
I am certain we can all act like adults, in constructive spirit instead of going into petty bickering. As in right now, if you don't like someone's category, make a suggestion how to make it better, or if you can't suggest something, then don't use that category, simple as that.
This wiki project has been great so far, big kudos and cheer to Pious and Zortel for their hard work. But please don't repay their hard work with bringing useless flaming and bad feelings to these boards, how do you think it makes them feel? Instead try to please be positive and constructive.
Just for the record, I think having a shapeshifter category AND werewolf category is far more beneficial than merging them into one. Possibly have one as subcategory? As far as I know, you can add your character to both categories anyway.
Regarding Liz's tips on how to create vampire/zombie characters, it might be also an idea for her to write a short guide about it and have it placed into vampire/zombie (resp.) category, then you could go more into depth and no one would be confusing the tips into rules.

Things to be covered in the Meeting:
Page Protection - I've heard that MediaWiki can be set up so only the user who created a page or a mod can make alterations, something to consider.
3 Times Revert Policy - Something from Wiki, where if a page gets reverted 3 times in quick succession, it becomes protected so that only moderators can change it, so the mod team can step in to work.
Adjudication Board - Setting up a system so that a panel of users can decide on pages in some cases.
Categories - Discussing the details of these, what should be added and what shouldn't (of course, there is the point of abstaining too, if you don't want to use a certain category, don't.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Page Protection: Personally I think the sexualitytags made a bigger reaction than it really warranted and I'd hate to see us go down the road of restrictions and rules just because of one incident. No one (to my knowledge) has been maliciously changing the pages, nor has there been any other well-intented but badly executed friendly changes than this one time.
What this would mean as well as keeping someone's personal page untouched? I'd assume it'd mean that everyone would need to register to the site before making entries, and be logged on before could make any changes. It is additional encumbarance. No more than logging into any normal forum, but I have personally enjoyed the freedom of going to unionwiki from any computer without having to worry about logins. Especially in case of shared computers it saves effort not to be logging in and out all the time (which HAS been bit of pain with some forums).
Second point is that the page wouldn't be editable by someone else, even if that would be desirable. I have asked other people to read my entries, and they have fixed some typos and categories for me while reading, without having to come back to me and tell me where and what to fix and have me to do it.
Third point, and the most important one: What about non-personal pages? The supergroups pages mainly, but also location and business ones? They are not necessarily owned by a single invidual, but a group of people. I think everyone (from that SG) being able to make changes to the page, add their characters, their bit of history, whatever is a BIG benefit. Otherwise there would have to be a selected person to look after the wikipage, which is more administration and if that person should drop the face of the internet, then no one but mods would have the ability to edit the page. (Yes, the mods probably could give the right to someone else then too, I'd hope, but that is additional work too).
I agree if there's a problem with people changing other people's pages without permission and causing grief that way, then page protection would be needed and welcome. But that's not the case here, is it? Optimistically, I am going to hope it won't go to that either.
3 Times Revert Policy: Again, I don't see there would be actual need for this, and I see the negative aspect of pages getting locked down unnecessarily rather than after someone maliciously changing pages. As in: I write my page, hit save. Read my page, notice typo. Edit and save. Read on, notice second typo, edit and save. Read on, notice yet another typo, edit and save, and oops have my page locked down.
I guess this feature would be mostly useful in case of two or more people starting a fight over page, which way it should be, editing and re-editing. If that kind of thing has been happening, then it is warranted, but again, I hope it has not been.
Adjudication Board Some users deciding on some pages, is vague enough to cover most things But in general principle I think that's fine. If the mods feel the need for such, I'd say go ahead.
Categories: With currently over 100 character pages, and the amount raising still I would be in favor of lot of categories, better too many than too few. The players can choose themselves which categories they want to add to their character, so they still keep their personal freedom. The categories should be arranged in some logical manner, but I believe you mods can do it fine . Adding these categories to the cheat sheet would be necessary, otherwise people won't know what all is out there.

Re: Blackdove
It's nothing definate yet, just up for discussion. Yes, those things might have been a little over-reaction to the little spat we've had which is well on its ways to being fixed and polished, it's just things to consider though.
And possibly things to stop me getting a headache. Which Sod's Law will dictate that I'll get either way, so it's migraine minimization. :P
As I think some people missed this, there is a Nationality section on the character sheets, and an ethnicity section. Zortel's for instance is American and Hispanic-American, respectively.
Hm, lost my train of thought for a moment, I'm sure someone will jog my memory though.
Zortel - Lost, confused and looking for a good home.
The Donation page is a holdover from MediaWiki software. I have no clue how one would go about removing that, and I don't really want to tamper with it. RE: Dead links. Dead links are fine for the moment. Those little red blocks of text are a PAINFUL reminder for someone to link their character in or what not. Filling them in just for the sake of them not being dead seems a little, eh, and harder to then pinpoint what needs to be done.
Shouldn't it be US citizenship? America is the continent as far as I know, the fact we call them the Americans is a bit of a misnomer I think?

I thought "revert" was just when a change is made and then somebody undoes it (on Wikipedia there's an undo button on the history page; I don't see it on the Handbook though) so it goes back to the previous version. Your scenario would then be three edits, not three reverts? (I may be entirely wrong on that).
I personally can see the potential in there being certain pages where two or more people may have differing views and enter into an edit war instead of talking it over (probably over something utterly minor too, that's human nature!) so the ability to have a page auto-protected (and presumably flagged?) so that a moderator can step in seems sensible to me.
