I had people guessing for a number of months, simply because I never actually out and out said ooc "I'm male" or "I'm female." It changed over when I finally opened up and said that I was Gideon on the forums. I simply never made an issue of it, and people thought what they wanted to think.

I say it every time this subject comes up, but I play mostly female toons, simply because I prefer the costume options for the female models, and the male one looks kinda deformed.

(As an aside, I'm the one who was told "you must be a girl because guys don't giggle.")

*giggles*

I still hold you're actually Andrea and faking it well...

I mean, I can count the number of male toons I've *ever* seen you play on one hand (and that includes IRC ), Sara has way too much fashion sense, you've got that long curly blonde hair that I'd die for (and possibly dye for ) and you're a shouju anime fan.

I've never really played a male toon, I've also almost never, in 4 years of MMO gaming, had people ask if I was a guy or a girl, and rarely around people I know well has anyone referred to me as "he". I've also never had someone come on to me or try to flirt (well, not where it wasn't IC anyway, I've never had the creepy stalker tells people talk about)

Maybe it's something to do with all the pink?

B. On his lvl 10 character he had been given in total 1 mill influence... my lvl 30 has been given nothing, and these weren't guys he knew, but perhaps there is something about a young girl that you must give money to.

C. He prefers the female costumes, he didn't make any slutty characters, no extremely revealing cossies etc. just that bracers, etc. were nicer with the girls

[/ QUOTE ]

This is, of course a rule of MMORPGs

Hint: I might show you my boobies if you give me some influence.
Hint: No I won't, I'm a MAN ;D

im a female who plays female chars..mainly for the reason my son plays on the same account and he sticks to male ones( hes 14) makes it less confusing for our global friends.
But that asside i havent had gifts of inf or anything else.
i tend to call every1 huni in game if i dont know them..just my friendly way..but never really thought whether peeps thought was i male or female until i was really slow getting into a mission one day..i was asked where i was, and replyed i was just cleaning my bath out..to this the 2 guys i was playing with responded that at least they knew i had to be a real woman cos a man wouldnt have been doing that...plus it was a bit too multitasking for most men

Hey, I like Shounen as well. Still a Gundam worshipper. I just like the whole spectrum of shows.

Say, this isn't the time to mention that I also like musicals, am a bit of a formalwear nut and actually understand the basic principles of interior design?

It doesn't help that in your case, I knew before you'd even really started playing, cause DocT had told us vaguely who you were, I seem to recall. Yes, the pink is definitely a factor, it's about the one thing I don't use very much.

I play both genders ingame. Mostly male though. The general question for me usually is if the powersets/AT fit on the gender. Like, say battle axe and invulnerability dont sound very good sets for a female, when claws/SR would fit nicely. Then, if I get some unisex sets, like blaster ones I ask myself if I want to look at male [censored] in tights or female [censored] in tights while playing :P

My 2 cents ^^

I play anything. Males, females, robots, plantgirls, girl-cats, suits of animated armour, transgender characters, assexual characters and girls who are boys who like boys to be girls who do boys like they're girls who do girls like they're boys.

Sorry, couldn't resist breaking into song there.

I don't really see much of a difference between the male and female gender, which might explain why I find it easy to play both convincingly. Most of my characters are female, but that's mostly due to dislike of the running animation in males and costumes/scaling not looking as nice.

That's always been a major factor in my choices, to be honest. The female models simply look better.

I remember last Christmas being accosted by a jolly Santa type - I was playing as a female character (an android, as a matter of fact) and was asked to sit on his knee. My reward? Influence!

Now, the point of this is I am not underage, inexperienced or naive (Well, I don't think I am...) and to be honest the whole episode was done in a nice way with no real seedy undertones. I am, of course, a man in real life and these little happenings always make me laugh.

On a slightly different note, when Villains came out I rolled a lady dominator called Psionara and was chatted up by some (I assume male) bloke. We 'flirted' - me with a real life wry smile - and then he tried cyber with me...
Needless to say I was still amused but at that point I just had to tell him that I was a twenty-four year old man (at the time) and that it might not be appropriate, even in tells, to do that kind of thing.

Recently I was in Outbreak, rolling yet another ill-fated toon, and I came across a character called 'Queen of the G*ays'. So, I sidled up to him and politely 'telled' "I assume you're [censored] then?"

To which I got the response: "No!!" (I imagined an alarmed teenager going "ZOMG!")

I replied: "Well, the problem is, I am. You're lucky that I found it funny but other people might not be so happy with the character."

So, if anyone has seen the above-mentioned character then please do take a picture !

At the moment, I don't think there's a gender,race, orientation that I haven't played. (Suggestions welcome ).

A lot of people's views tend to be coloured by your avatar, but first impressions always tend to matter. Nice people will then alter their expectations based on how you act. Nasty ones will always see you as 'that'.

Often it's more fun playing something you're not. I hav great fun playing Villains because I'm actually nice IRL, but don't tell anyone.

generally i dont notice gettin freebies and all my chars are female! only time i get inf is off ppl i teamed with a bit and they take pity on me, esp as i just started on heroes after a fair long stint on villains. i am female, have been chatted up a few times which i find hillarious, (mainly due to the kinda of chat they use), and have also been under debate before in a team, and asked by a number of ppl if i am male in RL as i apparently sound it...not sure if thats offensive or not yet....

I have two female characters, one I created with my girlfriend to let her "play" with the editor of the game, and the other one I made to fit a "teenager archer from Ireland" concept which in my mind sounded a lot more interesting as a girl.
However, I haven't used these characters that much; I have to identify with my characters to develop a real attachment to them, and that's just impossible for me to identify in a female. So it's maily for RP reasons that I tend to stick to male characters all the times.
Got no problem with everyone who plays opposite sex chars, though, that would just be plain stupid: it's a game we're talking about, if someone likes to play opposite sex chars better, and have more fun that way, who am I to argue?

However, I find it very funny that sometimes you can spot immediately if a female char is a used by a male just by looking at the costume... No woman would have such a bad taste for clothings as some female characters in the game have!

Ah, gender stereotypes. If that was true, why do we have Trinny and Susanah, and all those makeover shows dealing with womens bad style choices?

Some people have style, some don't, and said style can vary greatly between cultures and subcultures.

And I'd like to add...
I've seen female toons that fit the "adolescent male teen player" stereotype, and had mature female players behind them.
I've also seen the "ZOMG! that MUST be a real female!" avatars running around played by such a 'adolescent male teen'...

I only really role play among friends and, so far, none of my female peeps have been given stuff out of the blue.
I know quiet a few female players and yes, they do all play female peeps.
As for my own, I have more female peeps then male (for a mix of story and test "lets try these sets and put together a random, interesting looking peep for it" reasons.)
The only "zomg a gal!!" comments I get is when I play my tank (Flame Elfling) and, thankfully, no one's tried to hit on me yet :P

well that's strange, as one of the early players (been here since the first wave of beta) my tanker was always a girl, never a comment was seen... some people are very strange.
