1. I try to find an action that I can do in the area, that might draw people's attention to me, that gives you lots of occasional IC comments you can make to make it clear you're there to RP and not standing around afk.

Minako sketches, and if there's no-one at the statue I really know I'll sit at the edge and draw for a bit until someone notices and comes over to see what I'm doing.

In a Wheel of Time mush, I did embroidery (although that doesn't really suit Paragon as well).

Red Commissar is famour for reading his paper, but it's essentially the same trick. Singing, humming, reading books, even eating, they're an easy way to integrate yourself into the group that's there.
2. ((sounds like a great idea Coile What are the IC rules regarding minors, drinking and general entrance?))

I think I just got made fun of there...

I shall demand extra hugs next time I come up to visit!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Hugs can be arranged, are you going to Memorabelia?
4. [ QUOTE ]
Terrors just out to cause pain and misery amongst the general populace. If the RP community doesn't want a real villain running around doing so then why don't you just say?

[/ QUOTE ]

I can appreciate that this seems to be sorted, but I'll put this up to hopefully head off any future occurances.

Your character may be the evilest baby eating villian in existance, my character may be the fluffiest hero in existance, but behind both of them are two REAL human beings.

Consent is not IC, no-one expects the evil villian to go up to the hero and say "excuse me, this drink contains my latest superplague, would you mind drinking it?"

Consent is out of character, it's about ensuring that the players are ok with the plot that you're doing, that you understand the limits that you can go to, and that in the end, everybody comes out friends having had a good time.

Consent applies no matter who your character is, hero, villian or NPC, because it's between you and the other players.

To show how this applies in the above example, going to the most popular part of the bar and serving the drinks to players who didn't know beforehand that that was part of a plot shows you have no respect for the players.

Publishing that you were going to be in a little used area, and people who wanted to be involved in the plot should go there is fine. Those PLAYERS who want to be involved can be, they've given consent and can sort out their own IC actions from there on in.

In other words, play nice children, and remember that we're roleplayers. No-one who meets FFM in real life expects to meet a white-haired catgirl alien (sorry FFM, you're just the most absurd pairing that came to mind ), so don't judge people's personalities OC by their IC actions, keep the two completely seperate.
5. [[Zortel, stealing Hikari-Hime's account again, but eh, she gets postcount bumps. ]]

If people don't want to use some of the boxes, then they don't have to, they can just fill it in with irrelevant or N/A or Unknown or something. I for one, having as many alts as I do, like having something as detailed as our box, because it means I have a convenient place that I can go and look up my own character information.

Do you really need to use a different template? If it really, really, really, really, really matters that much, I will start work on a less detailed box when I get home from holiday, in the style that our current Wiki uses. Just list down somewhere what you don't want.

Why there isn't one for Defiant: Cause we play on union, as Brighteyes mentioned. If Defiant roleplayers wanted to open a wiki and wanted help with getting things set up, I'm sure some could be provided.

[ QUOTE ]
It just seems like pointless information.

[/ QUOTE ]
No information is pointless.

While we're at this, is there anything else people -don't- like? We might as well get it all out of the way off while things are still young.

Things to be covered in the Meeting:
Page Protection - I've heard that MediaWiki can be set up so only the user who created a page or a mod can make alterations, something to consider.
3 Times Revert Policy - Something from Wiki, where if a page gets reverted 3 times in quick succession, it becomes protected so that only moderators can change it, so the mod team can step in to work.
Adjudication Board - Setting up a system so that a panel of users can decide on pages in some cases.
Categories - Discussing the details of these, what should be added and what shouldn't (of course, there is the point of abstaining too, if you don't want to use a certain category, don't.)

And probably some other stuff that I've forgotten.

[[Updated by Zortel, who is an evil alien bodysnatcher. Yoink!]]

Edit:
I think it was Big Lunk asking about this, but yes. There is Nationality, and Ethnicity. Nationality for English, American, etc, and Ethnicity for Caucasian and the like.
6. [[This is Zortel here, who in a rather silly mistake forgot to log in as me. Stealing PC's is wrong! :P))

Re: Plotmonkeys
Was thinking of a possible alternate name for that, and then it all slipped my mind. Tuesday I'll get something sorted.

Re: F+S
Not a clue, will check out later, monday evening/tuesday.

Re: Global Notification
Will get something done with that.

Re: Stuff.
Will be looking to discuss some things with Pious when I get back, mostly boring stuff about policies and the like, as well as categories and other fun stuff.

Toodles!
7. Most people tend to play to their own, RL, sexual preferrences, whether the player is male or female. I can't think of a single, female, hetrosexual player playing a primarily lesbian toon (although I can think of a few bi ones). Conversely, female written fanfics have a disproportionately high number of boy-on-boy relationships, especially when the series being fanficed involves no real boy on boy relationships and possible female ones.

For further proof, see the number of romantic fantsy novels, written by women, where lesbian pairs are major characters rather than supporting cast. They're always in there as supporters, but the main characters are almost always girls in hetrosexual or rarely bi relationships, or ****.

However, male players outnumber female players, and male players do tend to play cross gender more often (I know far more girls played by men than men played by girls, even allowing for the fact there's less girls playing). Add the wierd and wonderful internet phenonomon that the relative proportion of open LGBT players is far higher than anywhere in the real world other than possibly a university roleplaying society, and you get the phenonomon that LGBT toons make up a much higher proportion than they should do, and **** toons fall to the bottom of the heap.

The solution - more boys who like boys playing, or more girls - Shonen Ai!
8. I'll add a small 2 inf to that.

If you're playing a fairly shy character, you don't actually have to go up and talk to anyone.

Just emote your actions, sit down, eat a burger or read a book, if you're really upset about something start sniffing or crying.

You immediately become part of the scene, and people will know that you're open to being approached and talked to on an OOC level. If they're deeply involved in a conversation they might finish it before coming over, but it's probably the smoothest and easiest (from the PoV of a new character) way to get involved.

As for PD vs GG - I've spent so little time in either recently that I can't really say, but I've seen slightly more tools in PD. That's just one isolated incident though.

[ QUOTE ]
2: Peoples names do not float above their head. Also, they may not answer to that name, or even be known personally by it. This goe back to tip one, if you're not sure and the description of them doesn't help, send a tell asking.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would just like to point out something about this. We're in a city that is full of heroes who are in the paper every day. There's a pretty high chance that anyone stood at the GG statue will have had their photo taken and their hero name may be public knowledge.

A low level character may not have actually done much in the city and so may not be well known, but someone who is level 20+ is very likely to have had their picture taken and hero name found out.

So basically what I'm saying is that unless someone puts in their info that their character actively avoids getting their picture taken and avoids people finding out their hero name then I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to walk up to them and say "Hey, aren't you Soandso? I saw your picture in the paper."

[/ QUOTE ]

Someone in their hero costume, yes, but even then it's probably best to make sure it's actually their official costume before "recognising" them.

As for recognising civilian identities of high level heroes - unless the person is the equivalent of an A-list celebrity and goes in the gossip columns rather than the news section of the paper, people probably won't go out of their way to try and uncover the secret identity.

To put it another way, you don't get people going up to Clarke Kent in the street and shouting "hey, you're Superman! Wow!" or even "Hey, You're Clarke Kent! Wow!", and superman doesn't even have the "Everyone's a hero, why are they so special" thing going for him.

Random sketches

Set of sketches on a theme, cubism inspired charcoal portraits.

Probably look better than they actually are due to the style hiding the faults, but hey...

Random Girl 1
Random Girl 1b - same girl, different sketch
Random Guy
Random Girl 2
Zortel's Issac Anderson

Random sketches

Another piece of randomness, this one's for Zortel.

Chibi Attack!

Oddly, Juan is easier to draw Chibi form that Issac is, in spite of both of us finding Issac easier nomally.

I like chibi's, they don't have nasty things like hands and feet...

Random sketches

Quick sketch and digital colour

Character sketch for my newest horror (blame Zortel! She started it!) Magical Girl Sentai, Unite!

I'm fairly happy with the colouring (although I've love a tip or three!) but the proportions just seem wrong.
13. Mini thread necromancy and hyjacking

I'd love to try my hand at adding digital colour to some of my horrible scribbles, does anyone know any good, easy to use and preferably cheap software to do with (I don't think MSPaint will quite cut it ) and is doing so an exercise in futility without at least a basic tablet?

Oh, I've seen an A4 trust scroll table for about £50, is this work getting as a practice piece before moving up to the much more expensive wavcom ones?

P&P Role-Players

Well, as Z says we have a very irregular Fading Suns game. I also GM a BESM IRC game and play Exalted and Deadlands.

I own - Shadowrun 3rd and 4th, D&D 3 and 3.5, Deadlands, BESM, Birthright, Exalted (1st and 2nd) Call of Chuthlu, Fading Suns, Pendragon, Blue Rose, Mechwarrior, 7th Sea, Discworld Gurps, It came from the late late late show, and assorted others.

Now if only I could find a gaming group to actually play most of them with...
15. New characters will have wings from the start, they just can't *also* wear capes.

And for existing characters - new mutations, magical manifestations, "I always had wings, I just kept them hidden", bio-engineered grafts (either practical or "thay just look cool")... I think that pretty much any character could justify them, if they really want to.
16. Hover is amazingly useful in PvE - from high manoverability, to the ability to keep better line of sight on your teammates, the ability to be clearly seen when you get into trouble, and, most importantly of all, the ability to stay out of melee range. Very few enemies do better ranged than melee damage.

If you're not offending, you don't need stamina. AP is useful for if your end drops a little low, and carry a couple of blues in case things go pearshaped.

Slot Fortitude, slot AB, slot Fortitude again. Once you get past 32 you'll forget what heals are for (baring said pear-shaped missions). Slot RA for recharge, end regain, and get hasten. Don't worry too much about having your team in range - you'll probably find you're the one that needs it most

My personal playstyle (until I got into epics and respeced into fairly hard offender) was hovering about 5 feet above the tank, but my normal team was fairly melee-centric. Why 5 feet above the tank? because that puts you out of range of 90% of the AoE's they might get hit by, and you're in the best position for dropping aura's mid fight.

The only real point I will make is that with a good team, a "pure empath" is possibly the most boring thing in creation. It can be soul destroying to realise that the only reason they're letting you come along is they don't have to pause for their stamina to finish end regen. You won't have any nice visible effects (remember I said about forgetting what your heals were for?) and you'll frankly feel like dead weight even when you are contributing.

And empaths make perfectly good baby-blasters, while still keeping up their buff cycle.
17. Ummm, will your laptop run CoH at all, ie let you log in.

even if it's running at one frame an hour, we could still team you for the halloween badges...
18. [ QUOTE ]
I had people guessing for a number of months, simply because I never actually out and out said ooc "I'm male" or "I'm female." It changed over when I finally opened up and said that I was Gideon on the forums. I simply never made an issue of it, and people thought what they wanted to think.

I say it every time this subject comes up, but I play mostly female toons, simply because I prefer the costume options for the female models, and the male one looks kinda deformed.

(As an aside, I'm the one who was told "you must be a girl because guys don't giggle.")

*giggles*

[/ QUOTE ]

I still hold you're actually Andrea and faking it well...

I mean, I can count the number of male toons I've *ever* seen you play on one hand (and that includes IRC ), Sara has way too much fashion sense, you've got that long curly blonde hair that I'd die for (and possibly dye for ) and you're a shouju anime fan.

I've never really played a male toon, I've also almost never, in 4 years of MMO gaming, had people ask if I was a guy or a girl, and rarely around people I know well has anyone referred to me as "he". I've also never had someone come on to me or try to flirt (well, not where it wasn't IC anyway, I've never had the creepy stalker tells people talk about)

Maybe it's something to do with all the pink?
19. [ QUOTE ]
Also I wanted to roll a character or two that didn't need a travel power at 14.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd agree with a few of the other posters, it's easier on a defender than a controller, but it's well worth considering buying a normal travel power and then respecing out of it once you're up to IR (or keeping it if you're not scrambling for powers, TP makes a nice emergency get-away power)
20. Hikari_Hime

RP alts

The answer is - it really depends on you.

Z is the current queen of alts, no-one's entirely sure how many she has any more (I lost track somewhere around 50) and her record for simultaneous characters is 12, I think, although that was on IRC.

Most people tend to keep their alts seperate though, switching between them as whim and plot dictate. Some people have a distinct main (and may or may not have occasional alts), some people spend time equally between different characters.

So, all in all, alt as often as you like, just remember to keep the personalities distinct.
21. I'd prefer to exclude repeating songs rather than bands, some bands have done so many good tracks...

No-one's got mine yet, and while I know Z's (for Jane) I won't say, mostly 'cos she asked me how to spell it while getting the track listings...
22. Minako

1. Are you male or female? Jessica.
2. Describe yourself? Pollyanne.
3. Describe how you live? My little town.
4. Describe your boy/girlfriend? I need.
5. How do you feel about yourself? Blurring the edges.
6. Where would you rather be? Back to Eden.
7. Describe what you want to be? Cosmic Woo Woo
8. Describe how you love? Where lovers meet.
9. How do some people feel about you? It don’t get better.
10. Share a few words of wisdom? Careful what you wish for.

Slightly cheating, one of those is an album title, not a track.
23. Id like to nominate a different Blackdove piece, Jester and Inago, which is here.
24. If someone creates a toon, and sets out with the specific goal of becomming a supergroup leader, is that immoral?

I'd call that ambition.

So is the problem that it was done for an RP reason, rather than a game reason?

If someone set out with the goal of infiltrating and *destroying* a supergroup, that's different, but it sounds like the OP wanted the SG intact and functioning, since they would have failed if it wasn't.

About the only moral quandry I can see here is if it's ok to boast about it on the forums afterwards, I don't actually see one in what happened.

I will however note that the fact that the membership as a whole cannot remove an unpopular leader means that if you do this right, no proplem, if you get it wrong, a lot of people are going to get hurt, at which point I would hope the person doing it would have the moral strength of character to put it right.
25. recharge, recharge, recharge, recharge and more recharge, hasten, and beg for boosts.

Personally I slot 2 def, 2 to hit and 2 rech, but it's mostly set that way for the crazy people who think that enemies don't come in colours other than purple.

It depends on your normal team makeup, if you normally have a fairly wide-spread team the tohits are actually useful, if it's a lot of squishies who insist on taking aggro, the def is useful, otherwise recharge all the way.

Specific to you Rose, if you're ever going to team with Grav or Doc, lots of def and tohit - and be ready on the healing. Especially if Doc starts muttering about wormholes...
