Pure Empath Build
You do know about ED, right?

more than 3 slots of any SO enhancement type is a waste due to ED. If your on DO's then carry on.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

healing aura: 3heal/2recharge/1end
heal other: 3heal/2recharge/1end
ressurect: 3recharge
hasten: 3recharge
clear mind: 1recharge
fortitude: 3recharge/1-3defencebuff
RA(end): 3recharge
RA(hp): 3recharge/3heal
AB: 3recharge
others-(slot dependant)
snap shot: 2acc
aimed shot: 2acc
SS: 1run
recall friend: 1recharge
flaming arrow: 2acc
SJ: 3jump
Acro: 3endrdx (less if ONLY PvE)
Maneuvers: 3def/3endrdx (again less if non PvP OR ehavy end build)
basically for emps, as much heal, as much end reductions, little downtime on auras etc as poss, get tactics, 3tohit/3endrdx. Then its free for all on mastery (psy FTW) :P

yeh I know what ED is, well kinda lol you see when it came in I never really read much about it coz I thought it was lame, so now I dont know what % things should be on coz it varies depending on power so like I said feedback on a build would be nice. The only thing I did check out was healing aura with 4 SO heals in it was better then 3.

That's right, but you won't get almost any benefit from a 4th enhance of the same type once you're on SOs. So the rule of thumb is to stick to 3 max.

This is pretty much what I'd go for myself. But the pool powers can be swapped out. That's just what I prefer. You might want to consider picking up the Concealment pool, it's pretty nice for keeping aggro off your back.
I find slotting ressurect a bit of a waste, but you'll have tons of slots free if you don't care about your attacks, so it doesn't really matter.
The End Mods in Recovery Aura aren't really needed, but if you plan to PvP they're pretty handy.
Fortitude gives enough of an accuracy buff without extra slots, concentrate on defence buffs.
lots of tolgges + healing etc with no stam emp? ..
hasten bit late, ress personal preference = 3 recharge, why slot hover? AB imo does fine with default heal/end/recharge without ahving to lose the 3 slots, that u can use elsewhere
each to they're own tho etc! :P

Easy, I've done it in 6v6 PvP too, without End buffs.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
You don't need Hasten, it's just usefull in the later levels to get the big buffs up faster.
[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't want to be in a team that requires the Empath to slot Res for 3 recharge. Ever.
[ QUOTE ]
why slot hover?
[/ QUOTE ]
Unsurpressed 360 degree movement is good, and it gives better End usage than Fly, and much better KB protection in that it doesn't push you as far.
[ QUOTE ]

Slotted AB is probably the best single target buff in the game. +Recharge, +Recovery, +Regen, +Res (Slow). Throw in something like PBU and it's absolutely brilliant, especially in PvP. I despair when I get hit by an unslotted AB, it's just nowhere near as good.
But yes, each to there own I guess. Some of us like getting the best out of powers.
FYI "Pure Empath" is one of two phrases that is likely to send most Defenders into shivers of uncontrollable rage. The other one being "r u a healer".
Cryptic took aeging concepts of D+D clerics that are unfortunately prevalent throughout the genre, turned everything on it's head and created the Defender AT. It's criminal to undermine all their hard work with phrases like Pure Empath.
Ex thats a load of twoddle, and absed on what u said thats arena talk, why on earth would an emp be using hover in pve? (excl. something VERY uncommon such as ruin amges etc, where its minorly useful)
AB needs sod all doing to it, better use of slots elsewhere (except for the 3 for recharge)
hasten id say IS needed, faster heals faster heal other, faster recharge for buffs = buff more than a few people etc
8 man team, inevitable wipes i'm sorry but i wouldnt want to be waiting 10 bloody millon yrs on ress because only one slot, and heres where hasten comes in useful yet again
and as for stam, arena reference yet again. last longer / heal more / buff more / team goes longer, less downtime = faster moving grp = more exp etc etc
Hover is amazingly useful in PvE - from high manoverability, to the ability to keep better line of sight on your teammates, the ability to be clearly seen when you get into trouble, and, most importantly of all, the ability to stay out of melee range. Very few enemies do better ranged than melee damage.
If you're not offending, you don't need stamina. AP is useful for if your end drops a little low, and carry a couple of blues in case things go pearshaped.
Slot Fortitude, slot AB, slot Fortitude again. Once you get past 32 you'll forget what heals are for (baring said pear-shaped missions). Slot RA for recharge, end regain, and get hasten. Don't worry too much about having your team in range - you'll probably find you're the one that needs it most
My personal playstyle (until I got into epics and respeced into fairly hard offender) was hovering about 5 feet above the tank, but my normal team was fairly melee-centric. Why 5 feet above the tank? because that puts you out of range of 90% of the AoE's they might get hit by, and you're in the best position for dropping aura's mid fight.
The only real point I will make is that with a good team, a "pure empath" is possibly the most boring thing in creation. It can be soul destroying to realise that the only reason they're letting you come along is they don't have to pause for their stamina to finish end regen. You won't have any nice visible effects (remember I said about forgetting what your heals were for?) and you'll frankly feel like dead weight even when you are contributing.
And empaths make perfectly good baby-blasters, while still keeping up their buff cycle.

why wud they be using hover in pvp?! it is clear he means pve which is very useful for hovering above the fight healing, out of harms way

u use a lot more endurance in pvp than pve...
X-treme u misunderstood all what i typed XD
Extremus explained about hover etc, but tahts used in pvp etc ALOT, pve you dont need to bother with it as you 'should' be capable to stay out of harms reach... if not your prolly blind
As for AB i DID say APART from the 3 recharge reductions it needs nothing else, default amount it recharges/heals/etc is enough to use the last 3 slots of 6 for something else
AND for stam I said its NEEDED, you'll last longer if in large fights, or against ones that take ages to kill etc etc

But hover is useful in PvE for blind and sighted empaths alike.
Several people have already commented that they like using it and how useful they find it in PvE. I use it for all the reasons above - plus I like hovering my empath above the fight, I don't like being stood off to one side tucked neatly out of the dangerzone. It's just not very exciting.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not needed, won't last any longer with or without if you know what you're doing past SO level. Can quite easily run through an entire Invinc mission as an Emp without Stamina, buffing, healing, throwing some attacks around. All you need is your buffs and the rare CAB.

Barring End Drain, I have never ran out of Endurance in PvP with Empath. Not once. Why would I waste three power slots that I don't need?

What? Hover is useless in a good team PvP match. No way can you stay near your team.
[ QUOTE ]
pve you dont need to bother with it as you 'should' be capable to stay out of harms reach
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, if you're hanging around at the back. But I like to be near the melee players so they get in on my Healing Aura. With Hover I can do that. And stay out of melee range at the same time.
[ QUOTE ]

Well no. It doesn't need the extra slots. But they improve the power. So why on earth wouldn't I use them?
Fortitude is an awesome buff out the box as well. But slotting it makes it even better.

No. No it's not. I almost never run out of endurance. I've never taken Stamina, and even back in the days when people used to hear the entire map I didn't have problems.

healing aint exciting period psy
and Ex, where did i say i just wait for gathers and not buff? .......nowhere I constantly buff [censored] everything that bloody moves
and my slots r taken up in pool powers (tactics etc) 3 attacks from psychic blast AND the psi mastery, so YES i ca afford to not slot AB past 3 recharge and STILL heal as awell as anyone else, evidence shows that. BUT i aint ever teamed with you as fara s i know so we cant comment

well, no. But standing off to one side makes it even more dull imo. Hovering above the battle ground just adds a little to the excitement.
Excuse the late post
This is a thread about a supposedly "Pure Empath" (although personally I agree with Avalanche) but yet you have attacks? My Empath has tried having attacks but frankly I found it a waste of time ((I now have Mental Blast (no extra slots), Mass Hypnosis (epic), Mind over Body (epic) and Telekinesis (epic)). Youre not a blaster youre a healer!! Most annoying thing is the limit on 4 pool Sets!!! It really makes it difficult with choosing pools as there are quite a few useful powers: Recall friend, Hasten, Fitness, leadership, concealment (if its what you want personally I had it but respected it out back when they changed phase shift with the release of i5)and travel if you havent gone with SS or TP.
Its funny reading the arguments with regard to do healers need stamina or not, personally I wouldnt do without it but when your running 4 toggles (3 leadership, 1 epic psi) it makes sense and well if I had hasten without fitness (in order to get hasten in my build I would have to drop Recall Friend of Fitness Pool). I would not last long on the end front in some of the teams/battles I have been in... But I am not saying that its "needed" I just feel that having a power that pretty much means that your end doesnt go down to be a good thing (especially when it means you dont have to slot end red on the heals!!!) rather than having to carry Cabs/constantly paying attention to your endurance instead of healing/buffing the team (again my comment about attacks).
With regard to PvP there is a thing called a stalker it likes to sneak up and tactically kill the healer so being above the ground is like a lot of you seem to like doing in PvE (although personally I use fly in PvP (3 speed) and although I used to I no longer use Hover/Fly in PvE other than to get from a to b), In PvP the best defence a healer (well actually it could be applied to any non melee based characters) can have is being out of reach of grounded stalkers its only the flying or spines/claws (ranged attacks) ones that I have to watch for when I have been in PvP teams.
The best advice I can give you is stick with the primaries, what ever you choose with regard to travel or Pools dont let anyone else say its [censored] because if it works for you then theres nothing wrong with it and as long as youre keeping the team alive then everyones happy
Empaths take attacks for the same reason you take epic armour - self defence. It's no fun having a tank smasher who is low on health hitting you and having no way to stop him.
It's also no fun to be stood around doing sod all when the going's good, and brings the whole profession into disrepute (it's that sort of behaviour that started off the whole "Empaths leech!" thing).
DON'T eat muffins while I'm developing you.
Pants! Turkey Magnates! A man in a box! Rogue AI! Come one, come all, to arc ID 10107 - It's [i]'Not as long as some other arcs'[/i]!
[ QUOTE ]
Youre not a blaster youre a healer!!
[/ QUOTE ]Please sterilize yourself to avoid further contamination of the gene pool.
lmao stand around doing nothing? how bout keeping CM on an entire team of 8 as well as fort on 3 team members along with the other buffs... been in very few teams that havent needed healing esp when its a team of 8 people when i had attacks (used to have 6 secondaries at one point) i hardly ever used them never had the time was to busy keeping the team alive and/or buffing
sure get attacks if you want but dont start playing like a blaster (i have seen this) and forgetting that your there to heal the team.. most teams ive been in would rather they were kept buffed and healed. but then having said that ive teamed with blaster heavy teams alot while i was lvling to 50 so im used to being in constant healing (hence why i talked about fitness in previous post)
Prov is an empath/rad, and with her I manage to BOTH heal/buff the team and attack using my secondary, rad.
Admittedly, I never used to be quite so nimble with this.
But with enough practice, and help from a few macros/binds - anyone can do both and not be criticised for lacking in their chosen area.
It's naive to say Emapaths should only heal, they are full of so much more potential.
I need a bit of help on my Empath, I have listed only as far as I have got but feel free to list a complete build to help me out Im [censored] solo but a really good healer I just need help on slots and building up a more stable complete build thanks peeps
