We need more PvPers
I couldn't agree more. I loved the PvP nights before they stopped happening. And loved the nights where we PvP'd till about 3AM everynight with whoever we could find.

servers are supposedly specificed for about 75 people per zone, running on performace settings helps your graphical lag. I had no performace issues last night at all

Reason why EU->US is not possible. EU servers would have 10 people in peak times
Ever since PvP began in CoH i have tried to improve the PvP Community... it seems to be slowly improving and getting more and more interested but its a long journey. Most people are put off from the zones because of all the childish behaviour. As long as people keep filter through the communtiy will continue to grow slowly... All the PvP events that are happening at the moment are great for pulling in a new player.. Just hope they dont get put off to much if they lose. I hope people remember that you learn more from losing than you do winning.
aye I agree.. more PvPers equals more fun imo as fighting the same old can get tedious at times. That was also one of main reasons I decided to host Suckerpunch!, cause S4 was what got most of us into PvPing afaik, as it showed the fun you can have when you PvP with at least a half decent team. I think regular, well-organized PvP events can draw alot of people over to the PvP side.
"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"
Total Cat @Stagefright
I'd like more teaming PvP, and less squishie ganking in the open warfare zones.
But an awful lot of people bought CoH because it had no PvP, it was a pure PvE game and people didn't have to worry about the builds/playstyle and tbh attitude of it all. And the bad stories continue to go around (justified bad stories in many cases).
Given the "pick up and play" style of CoH as a whole, a lot of players (especially int he evening) want a bit of light relief by bouncing around as a superhero hitting things They don't want to be shouted at, abused etc. because they fancy trying a bit of PvP.
The population won't go up until the general attitude changes, unfortunately the people with the bad attitudes don't tend to be on the forums much and this will fall on deaf ears.
The reason you dont see even more PvPers atm in the PvP zones is because there is nto enough incentive from the dev's side. Give people bait and incentive and they will come.Give them custom ingame titles, remove pvp reputation limits give them something to have as reward for the effort they put in pvp and yes they will come and increase in numbers. The current PvP incentive and reward system is a joke. Bounty giving SO's?please you can get more SO's by farming mission and Hamidon raids or whatever. Warburg missile powers?too bad they include a few min of PvE rather than PvP.
The problem not lies in the players only it lies in the game design as well
That's why it's important for regular PvP-ers to act correctly at all times, to keep the zones freindly and fun.
And if you know someone who's interested in trying PvP, always try and go with them on their first time in a PvP zone - being ganked on your own would put off a lot of people, but being on a team means they can survive longer, get advice, and be protected by the others while they're learning how best to play their avatar.

So inviting them in warburg, and once far from base quit team and kill him wouldn't be nice? :-s

If more of us lot (the non child-like ones) swarm the zones, we'll be able to enjoy it more and outnumber the childish/ bad pvp ppl and their 'rules' and 'ways'.
Fingers crossed.

well i pvp now and again and to be honest i enjoy fighting against hero's but when your ganked by the multiple spine scrapper squads roaming around. You can understand why people dont pvp. Where is the fun in to going into any pvp zone and die in 3 or 4 hits after being imobilised.
if people played different characters instead of the current FOTM or most overpowered build they can. Then pvp would be more fun. The other issue is that you get people who after they die will log on to their villain / hero char and berate the other person.
I enjoy pvp btu i think the poster above put it on the head you need incentive to pvp. Like if you got prestige from killing the enmey or even double xp bonuses while in the pvp zones.

I am sorry but i will have to strongly disagree on this one. This is not incentive this is severe unbalance. To understand what a good reward would be the devs should have asked the PvP community for suggestions and then take them into account. It takes a lot of PvPing to get into the spirit of what would make a good reward and what not.
The devs currently put absolutely no thought into it.
A good PvPer spends hours making builds, practising moves and generally put a lot more effort than in PvE. The devs do not reward enough for this.
At the moment there is no classification inside the game of good PvPers except an easy mode reputation farming that even a beginner can do with 2-3 days full throttle PvP.
custom ranks based on duels lost and won, special animations and powers based on zonal PvP objectives or maybe even special PvP outfits and auras would attract a lot PvPers even casual ones to give it a try. Ofc this would mean a lot of hard work from the devs to find a way provide such things in the PvE side as well to balance the game.Problem is that the devs instead of working these things out they go and announce for next issue WINGS like is the discovery of the century and Wings will be the best end game content ever. The sad thing is that a lot of people drop to their knees and worship devs for putting wings in a game and actually making it a huge deal.
Where is the end content?
Where are the incentives and rewards for the PvP?
CoP that is supposed to be also "new" game content was announced to be part of game ever since the beta of CoV.And is also included as a feature in the boxes.
The devs have a gem of a game and a concept in their hands and all they manage is ruin it by focusing in things like "wings" instead of improving game content and refreshing the game. But then again this is because their target market is USA. And even there the numbers are dropping but with a slower rate cause usa market is easier to manipulate and keep them there with a bunch of wings rather than the demanding EU market where people have a bit more refined tastes regarding what they look from a game and not just a bunch of wings to flap and keep em happy.
I am very sad to say i love this game to bits and i love the community and the devs are forcing me, and a lot more good people that have left this game and made the place feel a bit more empty every time, to look for games that actually take care of end game content and reward the players for their time put in the game rather than having what we call in management in BCG matrix a "cash cow" to take money and invest very little in it.
Sorry for ranting a bit and derailing but to be honest is very frustrating to love this game to bits and to be pushed out by the devs themselves and finding out that other games pay more attention to what the gamers actually want rather than what a bunch of devs that maybe not got much of a clue think COULD be fun.
If I did not have to grind the annoying low lvls to get to pvp, Id live in the pvp zones.
As it is Im having a break at the moment just so I can buckle down and get some other chars to pvp lvls(lvl 20+)...That and trying other games (RFonline is such a tedious grind fest and sooo out of date tech wise ).
I really enjoy PVP and think the rewards, at least in Sirens are perfectly fine as they are. Sure, the other zones could do with bounty etc but I dont play PVP for the rewards, just the fun of it.
The other problem with having better rewards, is that you would then end up with the problem of having elitist PVPers getting all the rewards (and bragging about it to boot) and to get the rewards would by default probably exclude the casual PVPers that you would be trying to attract. Plus you would then counteract the PVP part even more as you would have even more players moaning about being killed as "I was only in here to try to get the bonuses".
The PVP reputation is also fine as it is. Most people take ages to get to the cap and then it is a pleasant bonus, but again, the main reason most people play is for the fun.
PVP is not the main game itself, PVE will always be the main bulk of it, and PVP was added for those that wanted it.

After 19 months I don't think this is a valid reason anymore. Villains went on sale with PvP and that was 11 months ago.
Its true about the attitude though, it does put alot of people off and I've seen new players enter the zone but no idea if they keep returning. There definatly needs to be more variety in PvP zones regards to different ATs.
I was in Siren's Call on Union as my villain and managed to organise them into a respectible fighting force which managed to wipe out the heroes a few times. Pretty even with 8 a side. Altho the numbers did change in the time i was there. There were always more heroes.
I'm tempted to organise another night of PvP in Sirens with a sign up thread. Like I did last June . Except no one does Hotspots because that was more PvE than PvP.
If both sides aren't hung up on debt, then a massed battle in a hotpsot is an awesome experince

I would compete with my Dom but the problem is that most of the events organized are for level 50 (my Dom is 40), or only specific ATs are welcome like in the "Mega Melee" where only Scrappers, Stalkers, Brutes and Tankers were allowed to join in.
Now if I got my Dom to 50 I'd certainly ask to join the "Squished"-event

A lot of people who were here before PvP are still here.
Yes lots of people have joined, but even then PvP was and still is optional and people still buy the game only wanting to PvE, if not only because of the reputation of CoH as a great PvE content game.
The trouble with TG's idea for rewards, is there are no special rewards on PvE for spending ages getting a really good build and understanding the game loads. Someone with a really awful build and no idea how to play their AT and powerset can still get to 50 and still have access to everything that people who are really good at the game get.
It would have to be a reward that wasn't farmable to give bonuses as well.
I still think that the attitude of players in the PvP zones is the biggest thing stopping people from joining in PvP as often. It certainly makes me PvE more because I don't want a broadcast (and even tells) full of abuse just because I want to try something different for a few hours.

PvP for Prestige

BAD idea with more bad attached to it. Imagine armies of toons yelling "Don't attack us we're farming Prestige. a la RV. No, if there's any incentive, this is NOT it.
All these aside. Why do people put themselves on hide in a pvp zone? There for missions, don't wanna pvp? Fair enough, but there are the 'sneaky' ppl there for the 'surprise' attack, you attack, we know you're there, your name's on my bounty list, we know you're there.
If everyone there to pvp to their name OFF hide to pvp, ppl coming and checking activity or using /sea could gauge the activity better and more could pvp.
Turn off hide as in /unhide, cheers!

It should not be to hard to get things that only apply to pvp/pve, perhaps even PvP only characters/costumes.

Totally agree with Wam.
One of the main reason I dont pvp is that on the all but one occassion the zone was filled with people who decided use the most unpleasent lanugauge possible.
Now Im no prude but some of the chat that goes on in those zones it was damm right sick and perverted and has no place in society in general let alone a computer game.
By saying this I am by no means painting everyone with the same brush
Game mechanic wise, I think you may see an upturn if we can ever have two builds that switch when you go into a pvp zone.
I enjoy occasional PvP, but I know a lot of people are put off by the dregs of the game that strut their stuff in those zones. I've been sent abuse many a time (though one time I wasn't even aware, until I realised I'd not enabled broadcast or villain tells on one toon ). I just tend laugh it off, but some people are more sensitive and don't want to have to put up with those morons, which in standard PvE you never have to.
Personally a major deterrant though is the risk of debt, which can turn many people off going in the zones. They've fixed that partly in the last patch, and though a lot of people can go through PvE and through good play get zero debt, they can end up building up huge amounts on a bad day in Sirens through no fault of their own. That's a lot of risk for very little reward. For that reason I really only do zone PvP with my 50's but many people don't have that luxury. I personally think they should at least treat PvP zones as missions and give half debt.
To get around these problems (which aren't really that significant overall), I think we need some major events to get serious numbers in the zones. I remember the bridger/rockjaw one saw four instances of sirens due to so many people turning up. If a player organised one gets a fraction of that, it would still be a good show.

Issue 8 - Wings? Why do I need wings, when I can already fly?
Try adding another digit on the influence trading and enabling player below lvl 14 to call contacts from first mission onwards... Thats what Id put in as opposed to wings. Though am sure many players will love them so I guess its just me.
I also agree with removing the PvP Rep cap of 400, whats the point in it?
Cranked up a couple of alts on the US Freedom server (ill/emp, ice/em, ice/ss) to SO and SC range and PVPd there after the squishy tournament till about 3am. It absolutely rocked, stalkers were in a minority, corrupters were abundant which made things lots of fun. At once point there must have been 40-50 people in there and it wasnt even pvp night.
The euro servers need more pvpers, more corrs, more doms, I have seen the other side and it is good.....
