Bayani requested a piece that would pay homage to his favorite comic book cover Uncanny X-men #141. I was more than eager to work on this piece. However I must admit I had a few butterflies fluttering around in my stomach as I did my best to pay the proper respect to a great artist like John Byrne.
Now without further ado, I proudly present...

Marvellous! Truly outstanding work again Gill.
It's...awe inspiring. I love all the extra effects you've put in, such as the posters and magazines...
Speaking of the magazines...I noticed the ever-so-subtle homage to the original down at the bottom. Absolutely excellent work; if I had the money, I'd be virtually throwing requests at you.

City of Heroes comics and artwork
Bahh, as always, excellent!
Well, seeing as how jealous I am of your talent and skills.....can I direct you to this post in the "Who Would Win In A Battle Between..." thread?
Clickety Click kind of thing....
just for fun, you understand

Another fantastic piece as always. In some respects you make me sick (in a good way you understand) but at the same time you continually inspire me to attempt my own piece of work. My drawing skills are pretty [censored] atm so quite a learning process for me atm. I recently purchased "How to draw comics the Marvel way" and am still on the stick figures section I've also been practising digital colouring with line art I find online. Two examples can be found in this thread; my digital colouring
Which brings me to a request. From the pencil and ink pieces currently on your site could I have your permission to practice my digital colouring? I would, of course, never publicise the work or share it with anyone, it would purely be just for my own development skill. I'll understand if you say no of course.
Once again, fantastic work and I eagerly await your next piece (and may one day save up enough pennies to commission one of my own )

I think it's Lucy Lu who gets the title of "Bootylicious" (just to the right of Bayanis head, "Lu" visable between Bayanis jacket and Shutterbug)
Damn I just noticed the Pocket D flier as well!
Damn I just noticed the original comic book on the floor as well!

*Ahem* No no. That 'Lu' is the beginning of LUSH! I claim the crown of Bootyliciousness!
Hello Jomaro and Nakiesha,
Congratulations on a beautiful portfolio of work, you really are exceptionally talented.
I was looking at your website regarding the definitions of how the art is made and you mention digital painting.
I take it with most of your work you use old world media? ie: pencils, paper and inkpens up until you have the finished lineart, where it is then scanned in to be colourised and given the finishing touches, is that right?.
Is there any reason you don't work entirely digitally in the studio or do you feel more comfortable sketching traditionally with pencils and paper in the beginning.
Dont worry about spilling any trade secrets dear.... talent is something you can't replicate.
Congratulations again on some really beautiful work, both the quality of the drawing and the creative thought behind the concepts and setting of the characters are awe-inspiring to the would-be artist in all of us.
Thanks Mothers Love! I actually do enjoy working digitally as it's a lot easier to make adjustments and I am very comfortable drawing with my stylus pen. If I had a Wacom Cintiq pad I would definitely go digital all the way. But at the same time, clients really like to receive the hard copy artwork because it's more substantial. Plus there's nothing like inking with a real brush that makes the artwork that much more 'authentic feeling', as opposed to a print out. I'm happy working either way really.
Wow, just had a look at your prices (you must be raking it in) but I can't really afford to get one done. I love your work though, and also the web design is great. Keep it up, can't wait to see some of my friends get their toons turned into art
mmmm! I really love a lot of your pictures! I especially love Circus. Manticore and Synapse actually made me laugh in that one. hehehe.
For those of you who have been wondering about the Toons site, I'm still working on a few samples before we actually launch. But here's the first completed sample, a manga/anime style piece of Halley's Comet.
Just one thought - had you ever considered publishing some of your art in desktop wallpaper friendly sizes? The "official" CoH wallpapers are a bit naff imo, and something like one of your pieces adorning my desktop would be MUCH more preferable

As always....bloody awesome
I'm getting very excited about the toons site now!
One question though. With the Halleys Comet one you mentioned it was in a manga style. Are people going to be able to specify a style of cartoon that they want their toons in when you draw them, or is it something you decide?
I'd love to see some of mine in Batman/Superman/Justice League style and a couple of the others would look awesome in the manga/teen titans style as well
Looking forward to the site going live!

Awesome picture as ever and a very good reworking of the great John Byrne original, it made me smile as I looked at the pics first then read the post and I thought hang on that looks familiar
