How do you use your scrapper?

So many powersets and combinations, it seems every scrapper is different.

Mine is a Spines/Dark armour and I use him to AoE liuets and minions. I struggle if there isn't a tanker in the team and espcially someone without an end rec power Otherwise I'm using inspirations like they are particularly delicious sweets

One thing I've found with this toon though, is I still find a role to play within large teams. I didn't have that when playing as a MA/Regen, although I didn't feel as fragile.

Just wondering what your scrapper does best and any tips out there to be a walking one-man army? I'm thinking of rolling out yet another scrapper in the near future and am looking for something with great dmg potential with high survivability.

Broadsword, Katana - these are powersets I'm thinking of

i'm currently playin a kat/da scrapper, at lvl 26 now. I have to say it is really fun. It doesnt do as much dmg as broadsword but it feels really quick and sometimes i can just steam thru missions without any problems, either solo'in or in team. I'd say i'm probably best in a team without many other scrappers. Tactics tend to be activate hasten, activate build up take out the minions (2 shots and they are done with.. can 1 shot them if u get a critical (i generally fight +1s)), then move onto the bosses. unless its a named boss in which case i will try and take them out first and let everyone else deal with the minions. and i havnt even got my biggest dmg attacks yet (soaring dragon/golden dragonfly).

if you have a char on union and want a demonstration of kat/da then feel free to poke me at some time (global handle is @Tufty, or my scrappers name is Phyria), i'm normally on durin early evenins 7pm - 8pm etc.

My DM/Regen I use to jump into the middle of groups and provoke, to keep squishies alive, sometimes I kill some of them but spend more time provoking and fearing than actually fighting these days.

My DM/SR I kill bosses, let the Spine/Regen kill the mobs and hold the agro, cause I cant. But I can kill bosses fairly well, so that's alright.

I mean arrest, not kill, obviously. Negative energy has been proven to cause no permanant harm and is actually the government recomended way of subduing iconoclasts.

I find it depends a lot on what other AT's are in your team as to which role you play. My experience is from playing a MA/Regen scrapper, although most other scrappers I have seen of all builds play roughly the same way.

If we have a tank or controller in the team, normally I play the skirmisher, going round singling out bosses/lt's or things that are likely to give grief to the team (malta sappers, mezzers etc), and in this role I find the scrapper excels (along with blasters, but closer ).
In our SG, the main tank in the SG and myself often use the tactic of both standing in the doorway, providing a shield for the squishies as well, can be useful if there are a lot of enemies in front (tank taunts them, they come close, I hit them, so much like a conveyor belt we have been thinking about getting the mobs barcoded ).

Without a tank or controller, then I take the role of "meatshield with damage" and hope the defender is on the ball with buff's, debuff's, heals and anything else they can do to keep me alive (playing in teams of 4 or more without any tank/defender/controller is very quick, very fun but dangerous).

Above all though, play the scrapper in the way that is fun for you, adjust tactics if the team needs, but make sure you are enjoying it!

All this discussion has no real meaning unless you give an indication of the difficulty level of missions you're running. e.g.

It has no meaning because we don't know how big your mob groups are, what relative level they are, etc.

War Crow is a 41 kat/regen scrapper, currently his missions are set on Rugged. My normal mode of operation is to select key targets or the highest level mob I can see in any group and trash them. Once I've run out of key targets, I just continuously hit things until nothing is moving. I almost never use inspirations, I have powers for that.

In a team, his job is to squash bosses, provide damage output, eliminate things likely to ace the squishies, act as emergency tank if required.

Katana is a little faster than broadsword, but broadsword has higher basic DPS (I believe). Both have the advantage of a power which buffs your DEF when you hit something. 3 +0 SOs on Divine Avalanch gives you something like a 30+% DEF buff, which can be overlapped. So that's 60-70% DEF against all melee and all lethal attacks.

Stick that on top of regen and you have a part SR scrapper that regenerates. Stick on top of SR and you have an SR scrapper with a respectable DEF score.

In PvE (What's that again...? ) I tend to never stand still, always jumping around and positioning my AoEs better, I'm a Energy Torrent/Spine Burst/Throw Spines bot with the occasional Ripper.

In PvP I'm your worst nightmare!

Flitz targets bosses/lts because they have the easiest time punching through his DEF. Cobra Strike to disorient them, Focus Chi, Eagles Claw, mash keys till they drop...move onto next target.

In big groups with a good tank, I can just mash keys until nothing's left standing coz my framerate tends to drop to SUCK.

UNION @Flitz 50, Lead Hose 50, Red Rag 50
DEFIANT Rose Bloodthorn 34
VIGILANCE Captain Caledonia 20 - Yeah, I made toons on the French server coz we only had 4 back then (might have to transfer/recreate them on one of the US servers)
..and many more!

Basic mode of scrapper play:

1) Whats that I see over there?!
2) Is it moving?! Yes.
3) Hit it hard
4) is it still moving? If no goto point 1.
5) Hit it again to make sure.
6) Is it moving now?!: No ..... excellent.
7) Goto point 1

damn i rolled my katana/da scrapper, and loved him to bits, once i hit SOs i actually felt like a tank, got him to level 29 then retired him, why? katana got boring for me, always felt overshadowed by spines (thats my real favourite set) aswell as DA just lacking that scrappery feel and the endurance did annoy me, i could never last as long as the other members of the team, esp in arena duals, i couldnt last that long, unable to unleash a volley of attacks, unlike regenners

Although i've never had so much fun beeing sked to the 40+ game and tanking an 8man spawn of infernal minions. now that was insane.

oh and im off to make a spines/regen build after righting this post

I just go for it charge in the same time as the tank he agroes, i just soul drain then unload fully upon them

When up against grey to red mobs, I use my Claws/Invul Scrapper as a Tank; making sure I have Invincibility up, I'll run in and fire off Shockwave. This then aggros each mob that it hits onto me, and the rest are caught in the Invince taunt; if I miss any, or notice that one's escaped to attack another member of the team, I'll send a Focus it's way and then proceed to bash the mobs to death (slowly).

If I'm soloing, I'll take on smaller groups (I usually solo on Rugged), and use Spin more often.

Against AVs I pretty much just stand there and take damage, hitting every once in a while to keep aggro, and let the rest of the team blap, 'troll and swipe it to death. My problem arises whenever there's an actual Tanker in the team. I've played as a Scrapper-Tank for so long now that I try to take their job away from them . Though, once I'm back into the swing of things, I play as any Scrapper would.

Hit, arrest.
Hit, arrest.
Hit, arrest.
CAB.
Rinse and repeat.

I'm got a level 31 D/D scrapper that I play as a scraptroller. I use cloak of Fear to fear any minions around the tank, add Touch of Fear to any dangerous enemies, normally bosses and then start scrapping. It is certainly more fun than the spine/regen role that I played for 40 odd levels.

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.

i play my scrapper as tho i am invincible, when soloing i rush through missions killing/arresting everything in my way without pausing for breath, in temas of around 4+ i have a habit of trying to solo mobs, half the time resulting in me proving that my enemies are nothing, half the time resulting in me using revive and finishing em off
I am level 50, i am a katana/regen scrapper, i am your worst Nightmare villains!
i will overcome every opponent to find redemption, and death is just another obstacle

Nope, CAB's for the win, because until we can spec into /Regen quite a few of us are dreaming of having enough endurance to last a full fight.

I'll give you that one.

Toggle on quills, int and SJ, run into room, aggro 2-6 groups, DP, herd them to a tight spot, IH, then proceed to AoE the crap out of them while the pet DM/SR assists with bosses.

With Shadow Maul, quite a few times I've managed to hit about 7 enemies at once, and luckily enough some of the times I did this with Soul Drain from a 12ish group, giving me a nice line of "Satan Spawn defeated ----" from one Shadow Maul.

My scrapper is a cash cow to my alts.

Was playing him last night and had actually forgotten what to do with him, after 700+ hrs youd think i had learnt something.

Playing style is usually run interference for the team taking out bosses and lts. The occasional dragons tail to knock em all down. And if tings go pear shape hit elude and take em all out as the rest of the team back off ,usually the just die though leaving me standing alone.
