I can't believe that no one has yet mentioned the obvious one...
Gratz!! - Congratulations! (Usually said when someone has just levelled in a team)
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye, although the even more shortened term that I'd like to think I started, but I'll be blindingly humble about it.
Gz - Gratz - Congradulations on gaining a lvl I wish I was you you <this word would've been cencored>
What does "ED" and "Issue" mean?
I've seen those terms on the forums, but not in the list...
Issue is just another name for an update. obiviously the main influance of the City of games is comic books so the major updates are referred to as issues.
ED = enhancement diversification (sp?). basically a controversial system that was introduced during the last issue to encourgae players to make use of different types of enhancements (i.e. not 6 slotting all attacks with only damage enhancements). If you are new to the game it wouldn't really effect you, but more info can be found on the forums.
heres the linky Tufty is referring to in announcements:
[ QUOTE ]
Enhancement Diversification
This is a new system being implemented into City of Villains and City of Heroes (when City of Villains
launches) to promote the use of more different types of Enhancements in powers. Using a system of diminishing returns, when slotting the same type of Enhancement into a power, you will begin to see less effect of that Enhancement when the bonus reaches a certain threshold. The effectiveness of Enhancements you are slotting can now be seen in the Enhancement screen.

I am currently building a new list. From things I have seen on the forums, things in game, and any additions added here. Should be ready soon
i'm not a noob to mmo's or coh/cov but having read the list and thread from an interest point of view, the one thing imho i think would make it alot more useful is if someone compiled a list specific to coh/cov while compiling a seperate general mmo list of abreviations.
oo good idea. I shall re-orginise my spreadsheet.
Enemy - Short Hand
Clockwork - Clocks
Devouring Earth - DE
Freakshow - Freaks
Circle of Thorns - CoT (I'm surprised how few people know that one or I'm the only one using it)
Nemisis - Nems
Inspirations are often referred to by their colours
EG
want reds? - do you want a rage inspiration
need blues - I need a catch a breath
also
CAB - Catch A Breath
Train Mish - Mission started by boarding a train that take place in a seperate zone - normally lots of enemies and good for "Drek-ing"
ED = End of Drecking?
Issue - they keep changing the rules. Someone is always unhappy with the latest issue eg. i5.Often me, so this is not a dig at anyone .
Mez - Held, Immobilized, Slept, Stunned etc. Unable to respond to enemy after special attack. Mez protection is useful for a character!
How do I like my MMOs? I like them the way Paragon Studios used to make them. - a fitting tribute from kiasa.org
EU, Union mostly.
is that I typo I see in the first post ? :P
wy - your welcome I'm sure thats meant to be yw
ToF = Touch of Fear, Dark Melee Scrapper Primary power much used in PvP
CoF = Cloak of Fear, Dark Armour Scrapper secoundry power nerfed
And perhaps adding the color definitions, blue for catch a breath etc, red for rage etc, yellow for...urm whatever they called.
Some I see more in other forums but I got very confused with...
QFT - Quoted for truth (Normally someone quotes another user before they can change what they said).
QED - Normally a statistics expression but it means where you have proved something beyond doubt.
and of course...
Leeroy/Leeroy Jenkins/Leeroooooooooooy nnnnnjenkins - The person shouting this is going to run into the enemies, without a plan or care about their own life or anyone else's believing that they can win. Originally from the World of warcraft (WOW) player Leeroy Jenkins, the video is downloadable here...http://www.leeroyjenkins.net/
woot/w00t: A l33tsp34k phrase meaning anything from hurrah, woo, yay and hooplah, to gratz, good job, anything like that. Basically a noise of approval and celebration. A lot more socially acceptable than the rest of l33t.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what XD stands for?
I've seen it used a few times on the forums here and a few times in game, but have never really stopped to think about what it is.
Extra Damage?
Extreme *something*?
Ta.
if its xD I always assumed it was like a smiley. Big grin, squinty eyes etc.
If it means something else I dont know about it xD.

ZOMG and similar.. where the krutz does the Z come from?
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh yes another one I want to know. We had a debate about that one the other day on TS. (That's Team Speak by the way!)
The best I could come up with was a Scooby Doo type "ZOINKS!"
As in "ZOINKS OH MY GOD!!!"
But as I say none of us actually knew. Anyone else know where the Z comes from ?
and I spent ages being confused by people talking about their D3's before I was told it was a Dark/Dark Defender.
And apparently they can become D4's once they take the Dark Epic power too.
Blueside Level 50's.... Knightingale (Def), Rogue Elevenex (Blast), Lady Rogue (Scrap), Mr Infinity (Tank), Miss Infinity (Troller), Knight.Shade (WS), Knight.Bringer (PB)
Redside Level 50's... Colonel Rogue (Brute), Sergeant Domino (Stalk), F411-OUT (Dom)
Next Project: Psiryn Psi/Psi Cor Global Handle is @Knightingale

I'm pretty sure the Z is just added to all sorts of things because of it's general overuse in 'leet' speak. I don't believe there's a specific reason for it being there.

I'm afraid it isn't. That translation was just made up to give the term 'woot' some substance when a microsoft guy had to translate it into english for this microsoft web page.
Woot IS just a general exclamation of goodness, and has been around for far longer than team-based multiplayer gaming.

hehe wikipedia says both sides are right, aswell as providing others, like, want one of those

My point stands, the word woot has been around much, much longer than any apparant translation of it

much much longer? '92 from the film reference? lol
D&D has been around since the late 70's, so this;
"In the role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons, w00t has been variously interpreted as combinations of the phrases "weapons and loot," "wonderous loot," or "Wow, loot!", that were supposedly contracted to "w00t"."
Would pre-date it by atleast 15 years...
Mr 5p Krz is now very angry at you for bringing the spambot-demons down on him.
ZOMG and similar.. where the krutz does the Z come from?
