Opinions on Fire/Dark build
I *think* with 2 slotted stamia u can drop the endred in fly and put in speeds, and you should still gain end (while fly is only power active)
Do you really need recharges in rain of fire? How often in a fight will it be useful? Probably only when tar patch is down.
Tar patch could use the extra slots to increase the slow effect.
Fearsome stare and Petrifying Gaze are very powerful when slotted with fear/hold enhancements
Base damage res from shadow fall probably makes those 3 slots a bit pointless

Actually, I use it straight after Tar Patch - Tar Patch, Rain, Fire Ball, Breath ... mop up anything left standing (rare, but it happens).
I'm guessing the OP wants to use it every fight (which the 3 rech effectively lets you with SOs).
Nice thing about the dark secondary is it actually turns rain of fire into a power you might actually want to take.
I'd question the lack of tactics and would prefer to see leaping over fly, but that's personal preference...
Nice set of powers and I was really worried these would get nerfed for being overpowered ... until I ran into a +1 Damned.

[/ QUOTE ]Nope, it's still giving quite nice RES.

Well, I intend to use rain of fire a lot And only when tar patch is up. Rain of fire without tar patch is rather useless as they run out of the area, but like others said, with tar patch, fireball, rain of fire and fire breath, mobs die nicely and fast. No need for much slow enhancements as they don't live long enough

I know they are very powerfull, but I'm not trying to build a controller. I'm trying to make an offender, with a decent amount of defense. I'm not saying I don't want to slot those powers, but there are far to many good powers in both fire and dark, that I can't slot them all At least, not until they up the lvl cap to 50. Then I'll prolly slot those powers too.

To be honest, I don't really know how good this power is, but from the US boards dark defenders seem to love this power and most slot it with damage res enhancements. I think the biggest plus this powers gives you is the resistance to psionics.

What I dont like about that build is 12-20 you're only gaining needed powers and nothing fun, I hate stretches like that, they drive me nuts, I'd probably move hover forward a bit to break it up.

Well I'm at lvl 16 atm and I already feel the need for stamina so the next 2 powers I will choose will be for necessity reasons.
I think about every build has that annoying travelpower - stamina routine you just have to get past. Once you are past lvl20 and in SO range, the fun can begin
Yeah, but I dont think I had that long a run with any of my alts, usually took the first one of the travel powers at 6 or 8 and then would get hurdle or sprint in early, admitedly still second travel power, health and stamina cutting in from 14-20 but that leaves one more level of an interesting power.......... but that just me, I have a short attention span (see the alts) so I need to find ways to keep myself amused.

Your build looks solid, but I'm afraid it will be a end hog with DN, SF, Tactics and Assault. Are you sure you want Shadowfall ? Many people swear by it, but DN + FS should be enough to floor accuracy of +2/+3 minions, and since you have TG heavily slotted, I think it might be overkill defensive-wise.
The 3 slots you'd save could go in Tactics ; 1 acc SO by itself isn't enough to hit +2/+3, if you plan to fight mostly +0/+1 it's ok though.
I really like your build and is a concept I will be rolling a Fire/Dark myself when I have time.
I think your build is pretty spot on. The only comment I would make would to suggest if possible get Darkest Night at the earliest opportunity and slot it as a priority. It's probably the best de-buff in the game.

Thx for liking my build
About darkest night, I didn't really needed it at lvl4. At lvl8 it was about the right moment to get it, by then the LT's started to hurt me without it I will be slotting it a bit sooner than the build I've posted though, as it is indeed a very good debuff. For minions I don't bother though, they are dead fast enough to not really hurt me, especially with tar patch and rain of fire. If only tar patch could be up a bit faster
I started my new toon last night as a break from my main (Count Karl Von Seckt) on Defiant and would like to make a couple of points.
So far taken: Fire blast, Fireball, Rain of Fire, Twilight Grasp and Darkest Night. Next pick will be Tar Patch. I can't disagree with your rationale on getting Tar Patch early, not my choice mind, and it wouldn't pay for us all to be the same.
Have you thought about six slotting Tar Patch (3x Recharge, 1x Slow and 2x To Hit Debuffs) it might have a real impact but I don't have the figures for the debuff component.
I also think that Rain of Fire will become a fantastic Corruptor power. On its own it's pretty mediocre but I am hoping that in the final quarter of a fight with the benefits of Scourge it could become a real doomsday weapon.

looking at the build, byt the time the extra slots come available to put this into tar patch it really would not be worth it imo. darkest nite, fearsome stare and dark servant offer plenty in the way of to hit debuffs. we my defender i run those 3 normally during each big fight and dont normally have any problems with +3s/4s etc.
and thats of course if it is possible to slot it with tohitdebuffs
I stand corrected. Max is the expert not me
I honestly wouldn't bother with putting any To Hit debuffs in Tar Patch, not because it wouldn't be effective, but because you'll have so much debuff anyway that the extra won't be neccessary.
One thing I would highly recomend for any character with Dark Miasma is recall friend. Why? Because of Fluffy. Darkest night is thought of by many as the best debuff in the game. They are wrong. It is the second best debuff in the game. Fluffy is the best debuff. In addition to his other powers (Pet Gaze, TT, Twilight Grasp, his very own Darkest Night), he has the little noticed power Chill of the Night. CotN is a FBAoE (Fluffy Based Area of Effect) which does an occasional tick of damage, and (and this is the good part) a Darkest Night level To Hit Debuff. Being able to tp him next to an AV effectivly gives you the a triple stacked Darkest Night level To Hit Debuff, which will floor the accuracy of pretty much anything.
Edited to add: Assuming you can put To Hit Debuffs in Tar Patch.

It's a Dmg Resist debuff, not to-hit. This + the slow is the reason it's so nice with Rain of Fire.
[Edited : dmg resist not defense resist of course ]
Good suggestion about recall friend, maybe I can wait with tactics and take recall friend instead, and take tactics when the lvl cap is raised.
I have a question about fluffy's darkest night. Is it a single target debuff or is it a targeted aoe debuff? I've read conflicting statements on the US boards about that.
Thanks, I knew there was something else going on apart from the Slow, just had the wrong debuff. It just makes it all the more compelling though in my mind.
Darkest Night + Fireball + Tar Patch + Fireball + Rain of Fire + Scourge = Total Devastation
The second build looks better.
And btw if you solo, you should use darkest night to herd, but I guess you allready knew this.
A Paragon Defender
Fluffy's DN used to be a single target affair. At some point in the past (no one realy knows when, not least due to the proliferation of splodgy black effects on people's feet whenever Dark Miasma is being used) it was changed. Blackest Night's (Best guide there is about D3s, worth a read if you are using any Dark Miasma or Dark Blast character) most recent guide missed this change, although if you find it on the US forums, it is mentioned later in the discusion.
Dead Calm's Defender Manifesto
A friend of mine has a similar build, and he's says Flares are a rather good spell, that he uses a lot... This build skips flares alltogether, and they're damage/minute (according to Character Builder) is similar to Fire Blast.
I wonder... is Shadow Fall really that good? I was thinking of taking Flares instead of Shadow Fall, thus slightly modifying the build.
I've started myself a fire/dark build, as I thought it would turn out to be a good combo. Please feel free to drop some comments on my build.
