From the videos posted, it certainly seems like mixing it up is the way it will be.

I'm sooo looking forward to getting rid of the wind-up KOB. I know a lot of folks like it, but I can't reconcile it with my tanker's concept I do like the ground-slam, too (though I am also a fan of the foot stompage)

(My failed attempt at Rikti speak. Seriously, I really do not like the new animations. Thank goodness they aren't being forced on us. I'm still excited over Issue 16 though. =P)

well, they are something different. what makes them great is that now they can add more. if all ma was ever getting was those punches, id be less impressed, but i know a LOT of people wanted a punch/kick set for brawler type characters, and this is for them, and thats good. Now eventually id like to eventually see a chinese themed set of moves, and a thai set, as well as redone versions of the existing kicks to be closer to their real roots. as for super strength, i will be sprinkling ones among dire worg's sets, but since he is more of a smashy rageaholic, the original anims look a bit more his style, but with the switch in switch out anims, no worries, ill take what i want.

The only one that looks unnatural to me is Jab's replacement, and that's because it appears to me they took the animation for Flurry/Shadow Maul and cut it down.
KO Blow is a disapointment because I hoped they'd have something like the punch Statesman uses on Scirocco in the CoV trailer.
Or at least a snappy one-handed uppercut without the needless twirl in the windup.
I understand they're limited to something that has an upwards motion to match the knock up of the power, but still.
I hope at some point they allow us to add and remove effects like screen shake and debris, flashes, etc.
I'd love some non-visual customization of powers. The ability to turn a knock up into a knock back, down, etc. Trade -def for -res. I don't suspect that will ever happen. At best maybe we could get two "signature powers" (one ranged, one melee) post 50 that players could design to a degree with the effects and mechanics they want.

that would be too dramatic of a change to the mechanics, some of those effects are more desireable than others, so the min-maxers would break the system too fast. beyond the procs attainable by io's i would not expect that to happen, but hey, i could be wrong.
as for jab, honestly its not horrid, id prefer the hands would go up in a standard boxing guard and then snap out the punch, but again the "raising guard" might add to the animation times and damage the system.

Yes, from the people who got a look at it at the Comics Con. You can mix and match; you can choose each animation for each power, and they can be different from costume slot to costume slot.

either versions of Jab look fine to me and hardly "unnatural" will definitely be changing to the new Punch animation nonetheless.

Another thing just occurred to me:
Double Fisted Strike (AKA KO Blow) would look AWESOME with a shield on the left arm.
My SS/Shield brute will definitely be getting that change, it's too perfect for a shield user. Might make a Shield/SS tank too, just because of that.
Think maybe they thought about that when they did the animation?

I wouldn't count on it.
And they aren't changing animations, they're giving us options for alternate animations. Changing them would imply that we have no choice in the matter.

Yes, but you should never take Thunder Kick on Martial Arts characters. Easily the worst power in the set.

I'm not sure you're right. It got a big buff in the animation fixes.

I can see me replacing old Jab with new Jab, just because my build has Boxing, which i use as an attack (tight build) and i hate having the same anamations for both attacks... i'll replace old haymake, and i'll take ground punch (which is freaking awsome)... knockout blow stays the popeye wind up... sweet, i'm really digging the new SS anamations...
Not so much the MA ones. Only one i'll switch out is CaK. always hated how it looked, but always took it cause it was decent damage. I'll replace it... with it's punch, my build replaces the tire one kick with boxing anyways, so 2 punches, 3 kicks, and a sweep, a good soild MA moveset i think.
All in all, i'm looking forward to it!
