I honestly can't imagine doing so in any sort of serious manner, but I guess it's like anything else; you're welcome to do as you please with your $15 a month, but don't cry if people make fun of you for it. *laughs*

My personal rule on something like that has been "being vauge", like lets say you claim you've met and had an argument with countess crey.
one can fill in the blanks how they set up a meeting, if it was even set up and a random bump in, etc. Most importantly you're not assuming any character traits, quirks, or anything.
Though if one is gonna claim a signature npc is batting for the other team, stick to malaise, scirraco and mynx; the first two give that vibe and mynx is a catgirl so it's....yanno, by default.
The only person who is allowed to do something like that is Johnny Turbo. And that's only because I gave him permission.

It has always been ok. When someone RPs they are creating their own imaginary world and able to do whatever they like in that imaginary world. If someone does not unlike they just do not have to take part in that world. It is pretty simple.

It's one of the major reasons I don't RP with them.

I just read this and got the context, this ain't about backdoor relations with one of of FP, and....well damn, here's what i'd do:
Keep Rping the plot, if brought up by said person or another, ask when that happened, and keep skeptical and clinical, sort it out with them in that disposition and it should keep feathers ruffled to a minimum at least.
This is comic book land. We are kings of forgetting bad stories that never happened.
For instance:
Peter Parker never made a deal with the devil.
Nightcrawler was never an unwilling pawn in an anti-Catholic plot.
Jean Grey... well, some people are convinced that she stayed dead (after which resurrection, that's were we don't agree.).
Just ignore it. If it becomes a problem with how you interact with the character, explain to them that you don't want YOUR character dragged into personal relationships with a cannon (signature) character. Don't criticize the other person's choice about their character, that's their choice. Normally, it shouldn't be an issue where a fellow VG-mate doing Mako should interfere with your game play. If it is, however, that is good enough reason to find a new VG.

Depending on just how far they are rp'ing the scenario you could just treat it as some outrageous claim they are making and rp the appropriate level of skepticism... If they are RP'ing it such that the "named character" is actually in the room agreeing about the relationship then it gets a bit tougher.

As far as having the named character in the room agreeing with them... if they get a Dev to log on to the character and RP that way, then I'll accept what they're saying.

If it bothers you, just start up your own subplot/rumours about a randy shapechanger who pretends to be Captain Mako in order to sleep with gullible young villains.
Drop a comment that your character knows someone else who got tricked this way, thats all.
Don't feel obliged to burst their bubble.
Responding like this in character kind of keeps the peace and preserves continuity on both sides. In their mind, their character is special enough to sleep with Mako. In your mind, they're being fooled by a sleazy morphing wannabe.
