How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Quote:A: A woodchuck would only chuck as much wood as Chuck Norris would allow it to, because the woodchuck shares Chuck's name. Therefore, Chuck must punish it and make it chuck as much wood as Chuck can. So, a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as Chuck could.
If a woodchuck could chuck wood it would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
I like answering that question in front of little kids. It gives me a brief rush of power that fades as soon as I return to online gaming. -
But as soon as you hear about the game, you're playing it. You can't avoid playing unless you never know about the game. But now you do.

Quote:WOULD THAT IT WERE, STEVEN - WOULD THAT IT WERE.Would that I was familiar with such a use of this word.
edit:
Which of those two meanings does this sentence use? "I would like a peanut butter banana bacon sandwich." Words mean lots of things. I've never seen anyone use "would" in the way you describe but then again who knows what painful misuse of language goes on in RPing.
It can also mean "wish" or "want." This use is mostly deprecated.
Barring obscure Q.I. quotes, the problem with using it as 'wish' or 'want' is that it isn't the word 'would' indicating that in your example. The word 'like' is actually the culprit here. You could just as easily say "I would not like a peanut butter monstrosity," and suddenly you're only wishing that the person who cooked up such a thing doesn't try to force feed you.
Edit: In regards to 'Would that I..' etc, I wonder if this is purely a dialect taking influence on the word. I've never actually heard -anyone- but Steven Fry use 'would' in this manner (and he certainly makes anything endearing), but now I'm curious as to its origins!
I am a huge word nerd, but seeing someone use 'would' like that probably wouldn't much bother me. I can certainly understand RP pet peeves, though, and while everyone is welcome to have them, you often end up coming around to that $15 A Month rule (which I don't think I have to explain).
A while ago I knew a roleplayer who used the word 'loft' with a frequency that suggested addiction. But they never used it in a manner I would have expected (i.e.: "I live in a loft above the bakery." or "He held the basketball aloft, tormenting his stunted brother."). They regularly emoted:
/e lofts one eyebrow
.. which tended to make me imagine one fancy eyebrow flying off into space. -
I've often gone back and forth on this myself. I feel weird filling up my own deviations with comment responses, so I typically don't unless there's a specific question or a friend I haven't spoken to in a while.
I used to make it a point to thank everyone who fav'd, but lately I've fallen out of the habit (unless, as DarkEther said, they fav multiple pieces at once).
I always try to leave a thank you note when some one adds me to their deviantwatch list. I think that's a high compliment. :>
Of course, on the flip side, it doesn't bother me when I don't get replies for my own comments/favs/watches. So I don't think not thanking folks is a crime or anything. -

Quote:My main character would prompt at least one drink, and the rest of my roster I'm afraid to even talk about. My main character would prompt four drinks, and I don't think she's generic or mockworthy. What sort of superhero character would you consider legitimate?
Let me assure you that I really am just poking fun; a character is 'legitimate' when YOU have fun on it, no matter what anyone else thinks.
It doesn't matter if your character is intentionally serious, has cat ears, prefers wearing black or has a fetish for pizza; it doesn't matter if the character has pink buns on her head and runs around pantsing everybody in Atlas Park*, it doesn't matter if your character is the ultimate bringer of destruction of this world and intends to send everyone into oblivion, as long as you're enjoying the game, that's all that counts! =)
*Not recommended
Also LOL you guys are cracking me up, I <3 you all. -

Alright. I was idling in the D tonight and it's a past-time of mine to go through descriptions and read characters in the Movie Trailer Voice-over style; as I was doing this I thought, Huh. Drinking Game.
So here it is! Understand that this is all in good humor and isn't intended to poke fun at any specific group or type of roleplayer - I try to take shots at everyone equally. ;3
Feel free to add to it, too!
LET IT BEGIN*
Every time you see a vampire, werewolf, sorceress or magician, take a drink.
Every time you see a catgirl, take a drink.
Every time you see a fox character, take a drink.
Every time you see a dog character (non werewolf), take two drinks.
Every time you see a dragon, take a drink.
Every time you see a lizard character (non-draconic), take a drink.
Every time you see a demon, angel, half-demon, half-angel, or winged character, take a drink.
Every time you see a character under 5 feet who isn't a child, take a drink.
Every time you see a child character, take two drinks (ankle biters!)
Every time you see a girl in booty shorts, take a drink.
Every time you see a BOY in booty shorts, take three (you probably need it)
Every time you see skin-colored tights, eden pasties, or fishnet shirts, take a drink.
Every time you see a black trenchcoat, take a drink.
Every time you see a character with pure white or pure black skintones, take a drink.
Every time you see a guy hitting on a G.I.R.L., take a drink.
If you're a guy and you realize you're hitting on a G.I.R.L., take three drinks.
*Please note that I don't condone anyone who shouldn't be drinking, drinking. This is all in good fun and honestly you could drink soda and just get a sugar buzz as soon as drink alcohol. ;3 -
Quote:I like looking at them before I adblock them. Some people's sigs are REALLY nice! I saw one where there was a female character pulling up the bottom of the post and peeking out from under it, advertising her art commissions. That was really well done.
Of course, some people have sigs that need to be killed with fire...
I.. I suppose you could be talking about someone else's sig banner, but if you mean mine, thank you! This totally made my day! -

Personally I find it easier to read; the blue backgrounds are a bit darker and less saturated, making it easier for me to see the white.
As for the bar, I think that's a result of avatars not being exactly 100x100, but don't quote me on that. I haven't tested it yet. -

We just need AreEss' Golden Rules of RP.
1) Always remember there's a person behind the character.
2) If the character doesn't belong to you, ask permission.
3) The character is not the player, and the player is not the character. If you have a problem with the character, try talking to the player.
4) Tundra calls everybody food.

There is something to be said for people who roleplay characters with blatant, obvious and often hindering flaws such as: obliviousness, short-sightedness, chronic impatience, selfishness, etc.
While I can't say for certain that perhaps these roleplayers you encountered were just trying to stay true to these character flaws, I can say that it would be an interesting opportunity to learn more about how other players approach immersion.
I have met people in real life who do /totally stupid things/ that should immediately set off alarm bells in their head which warn of IMMINENT DISASTER; these people often don't get those bells for whatever reason and then (truly!) react as though I am somehow the villain for being upset that they made a joke about my dead grandmother (for example).
-
I understand that there is also the potential frustration of that person who plays a total jerk of a character but OOC begs you to like them, whispering constantly "Oh, that's just my CHARACTER speaking," "Please don't think I really think your character is ugly, that's just IC chatter," and "lolol sorry my character is such a jerk," - as though I can't distinguish between IC and OOC myself. These assurances, while nice perhaps the first time, do more to aggravate me the second and third times than a narcoleptic worker at the DMV.
I think I got a little off-topic.
I've personally dealt with all sorts, in and out of SGs, and in and out of the D (which is really a riot if you go in preparing to laugh instead of RP); ultimately it comes down to picking who I want to roleplay with and politely declining those situations in which I might find the frustration to not be worth the reward. -

If it bothers you, just start up your own subplot/rumours about a randy shapechanger who pretends to be Captain Mako in order to sleep with gullible young villains.

I think I just figured out what my Broadsword stalker's character concept will be once i16 hits.

I seriously can't wait to see this. Seriously. -
That's.. interesting.
As with any game, my personal attempts at Roleplay never ever include claiming personal relationship or significant power over Lore NPCs.
I honestly can't imagine doing so in any sort of serious manner, but I guess it's like anything else; you're welcome to do as you please with your $15 a month, but don't cry if people make fun of you for it. *laughs* -
I don't see how they could really get away with only giving dual pistols to blasters. The amount of demand that already exists for it to be given to corruptors is a bit too massive to ignore; even if it doesn't immediately become available to corrs upon GR's release, I think it'll eventually be proliferated within a short period afterward.
And if it isn't, I'll cry.
