Question on DA social niceities
I generally don't, unless they've faved a bunch at one time. I'm bad about responding to comments on the stuff I upload, but I try to post if someone has indicated by their comment that they think I'm the artist.
I will comment on occasion to the watches or faves, but not so much. I figure most of them are from you all anyway, and you all know I appreciate you regardless.

I thank for watches and reply to comments, but faves I dont have the time for, I used to but not anymore. I know lots of folks who do thank for faves though.
I don't post artwork myself but when I watch/fav someone/thing, I personally don't expect a reply or feel upset if I don't get one.
I think that most of the people who do it, are just fishing for free advertising on the watcher's page. So many people started doing it, that it became a custom on DA. You should feel no need to thank people for watches or favs, unless you like them for some other reason as well. Perhaps you like their art, or they said something nice, or any other reason.

The Guide to BURN
I've often gone back and forth on this myself. I feel weird filling up my own deviations with comment responses, so I typically don't unless there's a specific question or a friend I haven't spoken to in a while.
I used to make it a point to thank everyone who fav'd, but lately I've fallen out of the habit (unless, as DarkEther said, they fav multiple pieces at once).
I always try to leave a thank you note when some one adds me to their deviantwatch list. I think that's a high compliment. :>
Of course, on the flip side, it doesn't bother me when I don't get replies for my own comments/favs/watches. So I don't think not thanking folks is a crime or anything.

I don't expect a reply or feel upset at all if I don't get a thanks for a fav. It's not that big of a deal to me.
Well, I'm pretty new to actually posting content on DA, so I only have half a dozen favs and less comments. I've wondered about posting a thank you, but haven't yet. If anything, I would at most maybe leave a note.
It really depends on how much time I have.
Most of the time though, I'd prefer to respond to comments.
I was curious about this too - so I did up a poll on it a long time ago.

My non-artist viewpoint...
I frankly don't know why complete strangers watch me... It would seem to me to make more sense to watch the artist rather than the collector. Sure, if it's a person from here or such but besides that I don't get it...
Still, I generally don't bother thanking for watches... I know when I get thanked for watching someone else I generally respond with a "thanks for being worth watching" or some variation - to me it's the watchers who should be thanking for the privledge of seeing the art...
As for faves, I'd personally prefer they went and caved the pic in the artists gallery but I'm too lazy to make the comment to every fave I get... Been thinking I should write a journal pointing this out but so far too lazy for that as well...
As for comments, I do generally respond to comments. I figure it takes more than a single mouse click to comment and it's not like I get swamped with them so it's the least I can do... But I have seen artists whose every deviation gets flooded with comments and I totally understand them not responding...
The one time I always definitely respond is if someone makes a comment that sounds as if they think I am the artist. I label every deviation with who did it and note that in the comments too but when there is still confusion I try my best to make sure the actual artists get all credit they deserve...
I always thank watchers, and generally thank people who fav my work; especially if they fav a lot at once.
Then if their work catches my attention while I'm at their page, I'll look through it and fav/comment/watch depending on how much I like it^^
I'll respond to comments if its a question or a 'hey I know you', but otherwise, I don't go looking up people who fav to leave comments or anything

There are alot of non-CoHers who collect art of their original characters too. If I like the characters and if they collect really good art, I'll watch them, my usual reason being that I like see who *they* commission and look into commissioning art of those artists too if the price and quality works. Schwann and Garanmad come to mind.
I usually thank favs if I have an inkling on who they are or if they seem to be obviously CoX related or ... well lets just say that if it looks like a "Drive by Fav" I don't usually drop by and thank them ... seems weird to me.
I like to comment stuff ... so yeah I usually answer comments I get. But as mentionned by others ... I don't think anyone expects anything ...

Hey when someone faves you or watches you on DA , do you go back to their DA page and leave a thank you ?
Im asking because Generally I respond to comments on DA but rarely thank folks for a fav or watch unless they left a comment of some sort , but my mom had asked me a similair question to the one I posed above when she was over and I had to admit I generally didn't and am now wondering how others handle fave and watching notices .
that is all
