New nVidia drivers released - 190.38
Awesome, thanks.
I had problems with the new update for my 7900 GS. I was on the phone with dell all last night trying to roll back my driver and stuff. Is is probably just cuz its a dell computer and they sometimes dont like the driver updates that nvidia comes out with.. ><

Introductions, Obey,
Nope, I've seen several instances lately with systems not wanting to fully uninstall the old drivers, even after using DriverSweeper it seems.
I've got the new 190.38 drivers running on my old computer using XP SP3 and an nVidia 6800 Ultra. Yeah, it's getting really long in the tooth, but to get the best out of a good video card upgrade I'd need to pop in a new motherboard, processor, and memory and that's not something I'm financially able to do right now.
I'd like to hear from one of the more experienced testers with Vista or Win7 and a newer card to hear how the new driver interacts with those OS's so we'll have an idea of how to advise people.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Thinking better then the 186?
I'll give it 2 weeks before I update.

Can't be that much worse than the 186 can it?

I had a problem with these on my 9600 GS, while World Of Warcraft, EvE and Sims 3 worked just fine with it all i got on CoX was a black screen and something about color mode not compadable with it. No idea what that was about but i tried reinstalling (stupid 5 hour download) and it still had a black screen. i just bounced back to a restore point to get it working again. still no idea what happened.
I am running the 190.38s with windows 7. It has fixed my black screen issues that I would receive with the 186 series. So if anyone is still running the 185 series because their CoH opens to a black screen, go ahead and try the 190s now.
Zanthar, what version of Windows are you using? Windows Vista or Windows 7? Are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of that OS?
Glycerine, is that 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 and what specific video card?

Vista x64 fully up to date
Ok, so hopefully one of the gurus that is running Vista64 and a 9600 or similar will be able to test this and possibly find a workaround of settings.

Sin, I have Windows XP and a 7900 GS also, and just finished installing/testing the 190.38 drivers and they work great for me. (I had the 185.85. I tried the 186.18 but it was total crap on my machine. There was not even a control panel so I stuck with the 185.85 till now.)
I always use the same routine when I install new drivers.
1. uninstall Nvidia drivers
2. reboot into safe modeand stop the puter from intalling anything.
4. use Driver Cleaner to remove all traces of old drivers
5. reboot and stop puter from installing anything.
6. install new Nvidia driver
7. set preferences in control panel
Ran CoH and it was great, as is internet connection time.
One strange thing, however. On the control panel, the Image Sharpening was greyed out and was unusable. Now you can move the slider, but as soon as you set it and hit apply, it returns to 0. Before the series 180 drivers, this feature was not disabled. Other than that, the 190.38 are fine so far for me.

I just discovered that all I needed to do was set my 'adjust desktop size and position' to the 'use Nvidia scaling' setting instead of 'use my display's built in scaling' and now I can adjust the image sharpening!!! thanks goes to jg0001's latest post:
"Annoyingly, the tab "ADJUST DESKTOP COLOR SETTINGS" are often lost. Alternatively, what happens is that under "2. Choose how color is set", the default becomes "Other applications control color settings", which effectively eliminates your prior brightness/contrast/ gamma AND digital vibrance settings. Thus, if you notice your screen & game look less well defined and lacking in VIBRANCE, double check that the "Use Nvidia settings" box is flicked.
Please note that this is simialr but NOT THE SAME as the section labeled "Adjust video color settings" which is different."
It was my own settings that were the problem.I am so happy that finally, everything is adjustable. Thanks again to jg0001 for being on top of it! (For those of you who want to know the best settings for their Nvidia card, he posted a guide for Nvidia cards.)

Win7 RC1 7100 Been multi account running on 190.38 for 2hrs. Solid over reg-patch.
Edited to add: 8800GT card, Win7 RC1 7100 64bit. I ONLY used the control panel add/remove utility to remove the 181's, rebooted, and installed the 190s. No problem without driversweeper.
Doesn't sound like its really worth upgrading from all the trouble I've heard about it so far. Supposedly FPS has gone down from 186.
Color me unconvinced, but if someone can proove me wrong I'd happily upgrade.

Oh look, I can see the game again. Yay.
Thanks for the info!

Not much of a difference here either, if at all. (Windows Vista on a 9800GT.)
Can't come up with a name? Click the link!
Addendum: It seems as though the graphics may be a tad more crisp than the 181's I came from. However I'm noting that its handling of my multi-accounts with Aero running, is more sluggish in refreshing than the 181's were. Its not "broke" by any means its just not as responsive. I know thats vague though.
I cannot update my drivers from the 177. versions without CoX not working or getting to the Log In Screen it either sticks on a black screen and stops responding or with the latest update it has my screen shifted off screen but does not lock up. I run a 9800 card on Vista64 bit system.
Any suggestions. I looked at the one post that has settings in it but that was for old drivers and seemed to be mainly for 9600 series cards or lower.
The reviews on Guru3D are pretty mixed. One thing that does sound good is not including the Stereoscopic 3D driver. It's actually listed as a program you can uninstall. If you are having issues, you might try uninstalling that. Or at least disabling the Windows Service it puts in.
I got the update yesterday.
Vista 64, Nvid 8600
I can't tell a damn bit of difference

Updated to the newest drivers this morning. Still have the same issue with my 8800 gt playing fine for a while and then the screen goes black with an error resulting in me having to kill the client and restart it.

Just to make people aware, nVidia has released the WHQL-version of the 190.38 drivers for XP, Vista and Windows 7.
Since I don't have a Vista or Win7 machine with an nVidia card I can't test this one. I'll update my drivers on my XP system to test this out when I get home this evening and will report on the results I get.
